Would this blue kitchen put you off buying a house?

We're in the process of getting a new kitchen from Howdens and like the look of Fairford Blue. We're not planning on moving any time soon, but we don't think this is our forever home either and may consider moving at some point down the line (perhaps in five years time). Would this colour put you off buying a house? We really like it, but would also be happy going with a more neutral colour. Not sure what to do, so your thoughts (either way) would be very welcome. Thanks! Here's a link to the kitchen on YouTube:

I like it however I do worry that the blue kitchen trend might look dated in 5/10 years. If it’s not your forever home I would go more neutral

KatherineJaneway · 11/03/2021 12:44

It's not to my taste but it wouldn't put me off a purchase.

MotherPiglet · 11/03/2021 12:45

I actually really like it. If someone doesnt like it when they buy they can cheaply paint over it instead of fully replacing

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/03/2021 12:45

I like both colour and style. IMO Shaker will never date.
Some people though will always want the latest shiny grey or whatever it is - which will be out of fashion in another 5 years.

And other people will want to rip out any perfectly nice kitchen that they didn’t choose for themselves.

If you like it, go for it - I would.

SixDegrees · 11/03/2021 12:47

It wouldn’t put me off.

Firstly, I like blue.

And secondly, kitchen cabinets being the “wrong” colour isn’t something I’d consider a deal breaker. They’re relatively easy to repaint or replace.

Alexandernevermind · 11/03/2021 12:50

I love it and want it! I think it looks pretty timeless.
No one is going to like everything. I would hate a white kitchen personally, but if and when you come to sell, if the potential buyers don't like it you can always get it repainted.

Juno231 · 11/03/2021 12:53

I'd def go diykitchens.com for the same thing but probably a third of the price of Howdens though!

Kamma89 · 11/03/2021 12:54

I don't like the colour but agree with lots of previous posters. If it could be painted or wrapped it wouldn't stop me buying the house

missymousey · 11/03/2021 12:57

I love it!

You can't second guess what the next owner's taste will be, don't think any more about it.

Oly4 · 11/03/2021 12:58

I love it but surely you just need to buy something you really like?
Life is too short!

PickAChew · 11/03/2021 12:58

I wouldn't choose it myself but it wouldn't put me off.

SwedishK · 11/03/2021 13:00

My parents have had their blue kitchen since the 70's. It's been in and out of fashion a million times but it's never looked too outdated. At the moment it's retro and cool.

RandomUsernameHere · 11/03/2021 13:01

I like it, definitely wouldn't put me off buying

S111n20 · 11/03/2021 13:09

I love it !

ginghamtablecloths · 11/03/2021 13:11

No, it wouldn't put me off in the slightest. I love blue and I'd swap my kitchen any day for the one you've pictured. Now if it was a colour that I would find difficult to live with such as lime green, purple, red or black that really would put me off.

m0therofdragons · 11/03/2021 13:14

I love it and have been having the same thought process. I’ve decided to buy the kitchen I love not the one I think others will want. This house had red all over when we moved inn and we changed it. It might put some off but others might love it.

MeadowViews · 11/03/2021 13:15

It's gorgeous! I'd love it.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/03/2021 13:15

Until you sell this house it is your home OP. Do it how you like. If you want to change it to sell it, then do that at the time, but right now, make it your home and have your lovely blue kitchen.Smile

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 11/03/2021 13:16

I like it. And if I didn’t it wouldn’t put me off a house that was right.

For 5 years, get the kitchen you love. Everything will be different then anyway in terms of ‘fashionable’.

PatsyStone39 · 11/03/2021 13:17

I love it! It would make me want to buy the house, not put me off.

AnnaSW1 · 11/03/2021 13:26

It wouldn't be my choice but if it was in good condition it wouldn't put me off buying.

AnnaSW1 · 11/03/2021 13:27

Definitely not as bad as the red kitchens I keep seeing everywhere on my property hunt.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/03/2021 13:32

Most people compromise on some things when they buy a house, and the things they generally don’t compromise on are the ones that can’t be changed or are difficult to change, such as location, garden orientation, layout etc. If when the time comes to sell there are several near-identical houses in your street for sale at the same price but with different decor styles then you might have competition and people who dislike blue or Shaker style might pick one of the other houses. In reality, that’s rarely the case. Five years is a long time, pick what you’ll enjoy.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/03/2021 13:42

It’s nice! My DM has a blue kitchen that must be 13 years old and still looks really smart. I don’t think very good design dates.
I think really fashionable stuff like high gloss grey will date badly but stuff like that won’t.

blowonitthen · 11/03/2021 13:44

I'm definitely a neutral fan on the whole but I quite like that blue.

Red or black and glossy kitchens - that would put me off because I don't like them but I personally wouldn't want to replace a reasonably new kitchen as it would feel wasteful.
