A bloody village pub and they have decided to protect the poor ickle smokers from the rain.

Oh my heart bleeds for them.

I mean ffs, they are bloody killing themselves so what does it matter if they get bloody wet!!!!

So now theres the chance that they might build this and we'll have everyone and their mother puffing away outside

I might put in an application to build a gallows.

ScaremyVile · 23/10/2007 15:48

Well I hope you disinfected DS after such a close encounter with a smoker.

Who are these southern smoking wankers?

ScaremyVile · 23/10/2007 15:50

Oh god yes! and chop his fingers off...

AitchTwoOh · 23/10/2007 15:50

so true, naily, we are a tougher breed it seems. loads of people i know have given up, and the hard-core smokers don't need southern poncy shelters, they just set fire to their pockets to keep them warm. if they can afford pockets, that is...

nailpolish · 23/10/2007 15:53

aitch are you coming to scottish xmas do

AitchTwoOh · 23/10/2007 15:56

no, you have managed to plan it for the busiest work week of my year and dd's 2nd birthday...

nailpolish · 23/10/2007 16:17

oh sorry aitch. i really am! there will be plenty others though. will check with you first though!

AitchTwoOh · 23/10/2007 16:20

my fault, i never saw the thread in time...

bozza · 23/10/2007 16:24

You can object on noise grounds according to my council website.

Nbg · 23/10/2007 21:01

Ok just to be clear

I dont object to the shelter full stop. What I object to is it being at the front of the pub because if this is the case then it will be virtually on my doorstep.
I dont want hoards of smokers outside my door at all times of the day and not only that it will attract non pub customers i.e. da yoof and possibly other people hanging about.

And going back to the price being affected because it was next to a pub, I can really reassure you that it wasnt at all!
It was bloody damn expensive and actually pricier than other properties in the village.
But it gave us no concerns because it is a village pub and not some rowdy city center bar.

If people want to smoke then they can get on with it for me but I find it laughable that they now need protection from the elements when they are already killing themselves smoking a cigarette.
But thats my problem

I also agree that with whoever said that these shelters will just be other pubs. Its true.

TBH, I wouldn't like the idea of a smokers shelter or congregation area or similar outside my front door either.

But, in all honesty, I feel somewhat pleased that your clear disdain for smokers is about to come and bite you on the ass...seems rather serendipitous! Sorry. (sort of, a little bit, or...maybe not!)

margoandjerry · 23/10/2007 21:14

Scaremy, LOL. I don't understand you! Not sure if you are a smoker or if someone in your family is a smoker but disdain for smokers has nothing to do with the OP's post...

These days, Friday and Saturday nights in the summer, I have up to 50 people congregating outside my block of flats being effing loud. Before the smoking ban, this didn't happen.

I love smokers with all my heart and soul, really I do. I think they are all marvellous people, but in anyone's world, that's annoying.

I am very happy that it's cold now and wish smokers a lovely warm time smoking inside for as long as they want, as long as I am not kept awake and my street is clean

ScaremyVile · 23/10/2007 21:22

Margo...on the disdain issue - have you read the op????
And yes, I probably am a bit hard to box on issues re smoking.
I smoke 2 or 3 cigarettes a day, but I'm a bit of a neurotic smoker in that I only ever smoke in my own garden or similar. Never smoke around other people, never in the street, never smoked in restaurants etc when that was allowed. After I have a cigarette I have to scrub my hands and spray myself with febreeze and gargle with mouthwash or have a mint. (omg, I realise I sound like an utter loon ) I just think I am a very considerate smoker and I get just as annoyed with inconsiderate smokers as anyone else.

margoandjerry · 23/10/2007 21:24

OK, see your point! But yes, you are a loon! Love the spritzing with Febreze

bozza · 23/10/2007 21:25

I think it is the inconsiderate smokers that are really the issue here. TBH the smoking shelter behind our house is hidden from view near enough so if they were just smoking it wouldn't be a problem it is the fact that they are laughing (even singing) in a drunken fashion in the early hours and swearing/discussing inappropriate topics in the afternoons when they must be able to hear my children playing that is the problem.

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 21:29

why would anyone live next to a pub - excepting students, young professionals and drunks?

harsh, i know, but c'mon!

that's like living next to a dog food factory and complaining about the smell.

duh!

margoandjerry · 23/10/2007 21:31

expat - my block of flats was built in 1901 (OK, I didn't move in then!). I moved in in 1998. Block is next to a sixties office block which was just an office block until Ha Ha Bar opened up in 2002....

tbh we've had no probs...until the smoking ban.

ScaremyVile · 23/10/2007 21:35

Bozza, that is a ridiculous example.
An inconsiderate smoker is someone who is not thoughtful about their smoking in relation to others.
The things you mention, the laughing etc will also be going on inside the pub - it's just that the ones who are smoking are now reuired by LAW to be outside - or maybe you just expect them to put the fun stuff on hold while they smoke?

Nbg · 23/10/2007 21:39

Ok I have just gone through the councils whole rigmarawl of looking at the plans!

Turns out its going to built in place of the gazebo that is already there and will be made of timber "to be in keeping with the area" and will have "50% airflow to be in the current guidelines and legislation of the smoking ban"

So its not at all that bad. It wont effect us at all.
It'll just be a shame for non smoking customers in the summer because instead of having a nice open beer garden, there'll be a nice wooden smoking hut.

Anyway, not my problem now.
I'm happy

OP posts:
bozza · 23/10/2007 21:40

Well I did realise that they didn't come outside specifically to laugh. I do have a few brain cells left. I only mentioned the laughing because it seems to carry more than the talking. Obviously it is the drink that is affecting the volume levels rather than the smoking but yes I think it is inconsiderate to make a loud noise late at night in a residential area. But that is OK, I should have realised when I bought my house 7 years ago that they would turn a private garden into a beer garden.

Nbg · 23/10/2007 21:40

expat your always complaining about house prices in this country!

read my last few posts about why we moved here!

OP posts:
bozza · 23/10/2007 21:43

nbg - ours has been built without planning permission.

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 21:43

yeah, so? i don't start threads whinging about them, because there's fuck all i can do about that other than move out.

i mean, you moved next to a pub!

we lived down the street from one.

i knew it was there when we moved but it was over the street and wouldn't ahve taken the place had it been closer.

sure enoguh it was loud as hell.

so we put up with it and then moved.

honestly, nbg, you're going on about smokers like they're worthy of the death penalty.

get a fecking GRIP!
