Looking at redoing the kitchen but I'm not sure if we should add a dishwasher. We have never had one before so never missed one. I'm not sure if it's worth adding ? The people who I know have them don't seem to use them much . Seemed like abit if a faf to me but thought it's worth getting some ideas .

Yes, yes, yes! Game changer. We are thinking of getting a second one.

IsThisNameTaken · 12/11/2020 08:51

Yes, definitely

Buggabooboo · 12/11/2020 08:51

Yes yes 100 times yes. It's my favourite machine. I will not live in a house without a dishwasher!

passthemustard · 12/11/2020 08:52

People have them and don't use them??? Mines on twice a day!

DefinitelyPossiblyMaybe · 12/11/2020 08:53

Yes! Even if you don't need one, if you ever want to sell it's an essential for most people.

Fullofpissandvinegar · 12/11/2020 08:57

Mines on twice a day too, more if we have visitors (a distant memory! 😂) or I’m doing lots of cooking. It’s great because you just tidy into it as you go, so no odd plates, mugs etc hanging around waiting to be washed. Absolutely essential in my opinion.

Billericaydicky · 12/11/2020 08:57

Omg yes, how can people not use their dishwasher!

WeAllHaveWings · 12/11/2020 08:57

100% yes. If I had the money/space I would have two so there is always one available to load dirty dishes into. We use ours everyday, load in breakfast, lunch, dinner dishes then switch on in evening. We very rarely hand wash anything.

They keeps kitchen tidy as dirty plates etc can go straight in there, obviously saves the chore of washing up/drying after each meal/drink. Can also get a smaller/better looking sink with no/small draining board, or have a separate draining board for big meals you can put away in a cupboard when not needed.

Mistymonday · 12/11/2020 08:59

I will never again live without a dishwasher. Lifechanging.

Tenyearsgone · 12/11/2020 08:59

Yes, I couldn't live without my dishwasher.

Pickpick101 · 12/11/2020 08:59

Wow wasn't expecting that many answers ! Is there anything that it won't clean ?

I had one once, and didn't bother putting one into my new kitchen. Only 3 of us, and all house trained though so that might make a difference

101namesforme · 12/11/2020 09:00

Yes definitely!
That was my only criteria about a kitchen when we moved house, that there was room for a dishwasher.

You won’t regret it!

HelpMeh · 12/11/2020 09:01

I wouldn't dream of living without one

Mintjulia · 12/11/2020 09:01

Yes, definitely,.

Put the dishes in it as you cook or straight from the table. It gives you extra working space, and a tidy kitchen in half the time. It does away with soggy tea towels, is more hygienic, cuts your water bill and your electricity (or gas) bill.

GiraffeNecked · 12/11/2020 09:03

It was the first thing we got put in when we moved in, even though it meant taking out an under counter fridge and having to have the fridge in a different room (we are building extension this will all change but not for a while).

We put everything in apart from frying pan and non stick baking trays. We cook a lot. Wouldn’t be without it. Small kitchen so it’s great to be able to put dishes in as you go.

Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone · 12/11/2020 09:03

Yes my Bosch 6 series is amazing couldn't do without it. runs overnight and keeps dirty dishes out of the bowl and worktops.

LimpidPools · 12/11/2020 09:03

Yes dishwasher. Always.

I do not understand people who have them but don't use them. Generally as some kind of weird virtue signalling thing, I think. "I'm a better housekeeper than you because I wash all the dishes by hand."

Well good luck to them.

Dishwashers are dirty dish cupboards, as mentioned above. They also use less water and energy than washing up by hand, so they are more efficient in every sense.

Nacreous · 12/11/2020 09:05

You have to commit to a dishwasher - if you have a thousand things like posh glasses or pans you use all the time that you can't put in it it won't be a major benefit (but still worth fitting for the sake of future sale).

Everything I own except one or two cast iron pans and a few glasses goes in. Even stuff where it will slightly shorten it's shelf life. I don't buy much that isn't dishwasher safe.

My kitchen is tiny (single sided galley) and I still made room for a dishwasher. Even a slimline one is a bonus compared to nothing.

Mintjulia · 12/11/2020 09:06

I hand wash decent glasses and rinse roasting pans before they go in the dishwasher. Some nonstick surfaces advise against putting in the dishwasher.

You can also use a dishwasher to sterilise jars and bottles if you are into bottling your own fruit or making jams and cordials.

MuchTooTired · 12/11/2020 09:06

Yes, definitely!

massistar · 12/11/2020 09:07

Yes a thousand times over. I didn't have one till around 5 years ago and couldn't live without it now. Mainly because otherwise the kitchen always has either dirty dishes in the sink or drying on the side.

FippertyGibbett · 12/11/2020 09:07

Absolutely.
I would expect one in a house I was buying, so think about when you are eventually selling.

Zenithbear · 12/11/2020 09:07

Yes. We use ours daily. There is only two of us but I batch cook and bake lots and find it especially useful then. Also for parties, Christmas etc you can just shove it all in and carry on enjoying yourselves.

Alfiemoon1 · 12/11/2020 09:11

Yes we use ours daily
