Looking at redoing the kitchen but I'm not sure if we should add a dishwasher. We have never had one before so never missed one. I'm not sure if it's worth adding ? The people who I know have them don't seem to use them much . Seemed like abit if a faf to me but thought it's worth getting some ideas .

I've never had a dish washer and find it just simple to wash up dry up and put away. But there is just me. And I do find it a bit much washing up after dinner parties. Then I would welcome one. I'd have to lose valuable storage space in my kitchen though so will manage without one.

mrshonda · 12/11/2020 11:58

Get one, you won't regret it. I love mine, and before I got a house with one already in the kitchen, I'd scorned them for years. Not anymore.

ReadySteadyBed · 12/11/2020 12:13

People have dishwashers and don't use them?!?!! Who are these strange folk??

Pickpick101 · 12/11/2020 12:15

Had a look at some online quite like the look of semi integrated , looks like we will be getting one , thankfully we have the space though not for two as others have said !

there are many options if you are short on space: slim ones, table top (could be inbuilt into a cupboard), drawer ones...

ZolaGrey · 12/11/2020 12:22

Always yes. How is this even a question.

PegasusReturns · 12/11/2020 12:23

Essential - I have a double drawer dishwasher and I’d never be without it now.

ZolaGrey · 12/11/2020 12:24

I moved a wall so that the washing machine could go in the downstairs loo and the dishwasher take its place in the kitchen.

I do not do dishes.

Pineapplemonkey · 12/11/2020 12:24

I would never not have a dishwasher and I live on my own. I don't run it every day but at least 4, maybe 5 times a week. Sparkly glasses, non tea stained cups and spoons, everything comes out immaculate. To the PP who said it was quicker to do it by hand once you've rinsed, loaded etc is/was doing it all wrong- no need at all to rinse, it even said that in the instruction book!
I'm also yet to find anything that can't go in ( I don't have any fine China to be fair though), if it fits, it goes in

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/11/2020 12:25

OMG yes - who doesn't have one!?

Pineapplemonkey · 12/11/2020 12:26

Ha- I pretty much did this (no wall needed moving), moved the washing machine into the downstairs loo so I could get a dishwasher in!
Bumblebee1980a · 12/11/2020 12:30

Yes!!!!

MrsD28 · 12/11/2020 12:31

Oh my god yes!!!! I love our dishwasher - as PP have said, dirty things go straight into it while cooking or after eating. Saves time, energy and space (no more dirty dishes hanging about).

goldenharvest · 12/11/2020 13:04

Heavens yes. You can get slimline ones if there are not many people.

CarryOnWalking · 12/11/2020 13:07

Yes!!! I can’t understand people having them and not using them. Ours is on several times a day.

PigletJohn · 12/11/2020 13:13

Yes.

Get two if you have room.

Then you can be taking the clean dishes out of one, to use, and putting the dirty in the other, to wash. No need to ever put stuff away.

If you have "best" glasses, wash them by hand as they will go cloudy.

If you have aluminium pans or utensils, they will go dark, so move to brushed stainless.

augustusglupe · 12/11/2020 13:17

Yes!! I didn't have one for 12 years until we got our kitchen done. I didn't want one, but DH said let's get one in case. Well that was 20 years ago and I've used it everyday. If you don't use it all the time at least you've got one for busier times, Easter/ Christmas. Definitely get one!!

GreenLeafTurnip · 12/11/2020 13:18

Yes. We didn't use ours then had a baby. We'd be using disposable plates and cutlery if we didn't have one!!

Roselilly36 · 12/11/2020 13:23

Dishwashers are amazing, can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want or use one, much more hygienic. But please don’t run them at night, someone I knew had a house fire doing that, luckily they were all ok and got out, the kitchen & downstairs rooms were really badly damaged though.

Honeyroar · 12/11/2020 13:25

We didn’t have one for years. We extended the kitchen and when we were planning it my stepson suggested a dishwasher. We weren’t really bothered, but added one because the kitchen was so big. Turns out we love it!

Hotwaterbottlelove · 12/11/2020 13:27

We are just planning our new kitchen and if it can fit we will be putting in two!!! They make life better.

Shenadoah · 12/11/2020 13:29

I was against having one for years as didn't see the point. Wow, was I wrong! Not only do they mean you don't have to wash up, they also mean you always have a tidy kitchen as dirty things get stored there until it's full. I just hadn't grasped this second point until I got one!!!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2020 13:30

No, don't get one. Get two Grin

Absolutely an essential item in our house. Keeps the kitchen looking clean and tidy and is more economical than washing by hand. Win-win!

onIRNBRU · 12/11/2020 13:30

Yes yes yes!!! It's cut 70% of the arguments I have with DH!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 12/11/2020 13:47

God yes, essential. Ours is on every night, sometimes twice a day. Emptying the dishwasher of sparkling, dry, warm dishes and glasses is a joy!
