House A: new build, all flooring included (Amtico), has driveway for two cars. Three beds, large master suite with dressing area and en-suite on second floor, kitchen, cloakrooom and living room on ground floor but also has a garden office. Could move in and no need to spend any money. 77 square metres.

House B: old house, bags of character and 4 small rooms downstairs (kitchen, lounge, dining room, study). Three beds, no en-suite, no downstairs loo. Parking is not next to the house. Is right on a main road. Only one bathroom and will need money spending on it. 96 square metres.

Losing my mind, please help!

A

Mydarlingsleepthief · 02/10/2020 17:29

New build!

ittooshallpass · 02/10/2020 17:29

House A

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2020 17:29

I love old houses but I'd not even debate this in my own head. The first one.

FizzyPink · 02/10/2020 17:30

I’m not a new build lover at all but definitely A. I can’t see any pros for B except it’s bigger

The only thing you seem to have going for B is the bags of character. The parking would annoy me, and the fact that you need to spend money on it, rather than A you can move in and enjoy your life not worry about renovations.

Why is B even a contender?

HappyDinosaur · 02/10/2020 17:32

Depends on the grounds for me, if there was a space to create parking with B I'd go for that and do work over time. If not, then I'd go for A as long as it's not on a crammed in estate. Also, there are main roads and main roads, our main road is quieter than the road we had when on an estate, but if it were a busy road I'd be more cautious.

Definitelysometime · 02/10/2020 17:33

Oh B is lovely! Much more charming and attractive. And individual. The parking is annoying, I agree. But everything else is better IMO.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2020 17:33

House B is much nicer in the pics than your description made out so I can see why you are unsure. B really is beautiful.

But that kitchen ceiling would be enough for me to say no. Add in no parking, main road. Still a no from me. Gorgeous as it is.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 02/10/2020 17:34

Property B it's lovely! What money does it need spending on it? It looks immaculate.

HappyDinosaur · 02/10/2020 17:34

Is there a service charge for A?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2020 17:34

What money does B need on it? It looks in fabulous condition.

Roowig2020 · 02/10/2020 17:34

I was going to say A until I saw the properties. B is fab. I don't think you need to do anything to it. Only thing is the parking but this depends how important that is to you. Where can you park?

unmarkedbythat · 02/10/2020 17:36

B is gorgeous; where would you need to spend the money? A doesn't make me think "oh, wow, I'd love to live there!" but B does.

pilates · 02/10/2020 17:37

Reluctantly A, only because I don’t normally like new builds but that seems nice.

Roowig2020 · 02/10/2020 17:38

Description says 2 has allocated parking for more than one car. Where is the space in relation to the house?

JoJoSM2 · 02/10/2020 17:38

So B is on the main road? It isn’t marked as such. Otherwise, it’s much much bigger and looks convenient for amenities? The decor is much better too - the new build looks very very cheap - student rental standard.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 02/10/2020 17:38

Right, now I've actually seen the properties I understand your dilema more. House B is very charming.

What work do you need to do on B? It looks fine as it is to me, except the parking issue. The main road would not put me off at all. Are they in similar types of locations or is one better than the other.
I'm not really a fan of new builds but I think I would still go for A, mainly for the parking.

Parkandride · 02/10/2020 17:39

B is gorgeous! Very nicely presented. I thought it would be awful from your comments. That would be my choice, if you were happy with the parking situation

TheGriffle · 02/10/2020 17:39

House B is under offer anyway so surely you’ve missed the boat there.

newlabelwriter · 02/10/2020 17:40

B... but looks like it's already under offer.

MollyButton · 02/10/2020 17:40

I'd have said A from your description but B is much nicer when you look at it, and the parking must be close to the house. From your description I thought it only had on road parking.

littlenickyy61 · 02/10/2020 17:41

I would go B except its already under offer ?. B has a more spacious feel and more character and looks in ready to move in condition ( even if its not your taste) . If it has allocated parking just not right outside then it would be a no brainer for me

claracluck78 · 02/10/2020 17:41

From the descriptions I would have said A

But B looks lovely!
