@Notyetthere

We are in! Just lying here next to DD in her bed too tired to go to our bed. I can hear DH opening and closing a whole bunch of drawers in the other room. The first drawer I opened in the kitchen the whole front came off. The kitchen is rather more tired than I remember it to be. The line is torn, water damage to the doors where they have expanded. The sticky muck in the cupboards. The handles definitely need changing as the stickiness cant be removed. I need a new kitchen. We managed to get the heating working so at least we are warm.
You are in! Phew! Time to go to bed for us both methinks! Congratulations. The whole moving saga is over for you. Now you can finally crack on and have the kitchen of your dreams. Talking of dreams. Time for bed!

One week after going on the market and going to best and final offers - this afternoon we have accepted the highest bid. Estate agent is confident they are a genuine good buyer. Slightly uncomfortable that their bid was miles higher than anyone elses but it's literally life changing for us and means we can move up the ladder instead of going sideways.
I am very grateful for our generous buyers and have made a private promise to them to make my house be in very best condition I can make it when we hand over the keys.
In the meantime we have to find somewhere to move to. This is not easy as there is literally nothing on the market in our price bracket - which probably has something to do with the massive interest we had in house.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 17/10/2020 06:13

Congrats @notangelinajolie, let’s hope you find something soon and that it’s smooth sailing from here :)

IamtheOnewithSocks · 17/10/2020 07:11

Congratulations @Notyetthere. Enjoy your new home. After all the waiting and thinking about it, I think it's inevitable that your memory makes some things a bit better than they were in reality, I really wouldn't worry about the kitchen being more tired than you remember.

Great news about your offer @notangelinajolie. What are you reasons for moving, more space, something different? I hope you find something quickly.

@Jujuball is it strange for you being on the other side of the process now?!

We are getting quotes for the issues identified on the Survey. Many of them are actually not as bad as they sounded when we first read the Survey. We would stay in our rental home whilst they work was being done, so it would delay is getting in unfortunately.

Jujuball · 17/10/2020 08:37

@Notyetthere ah how fab that you're in now! It'll soon feel like home

@notangelinajolie wow that offer is amazing, congrats! here begins the house hunting!

@IamtheOnewithSocks it's been incredibly weird being on this side of it, I think because I know how much can go wrong I'm doubly anxious! It was very weird looking at the title documents and Property Info Form from this side Grin I sent my solicitor (boss) a massive list of extra enquiries that I wanted to be raised so I'm sure the sellers' solicitor (who I work alongside often) is cursing me Grin

NewHouseNewMe · 17/10/2020 08:40

I hope waking up in your new home is hugely exciting. Congrats @Notyetthere
I have the same visions of the doors hanging off when we get in!

crankysaurus · 17/10/2020 08:43

That sounds great, Notyetthere, enjoy your new home!

DeeplyMovingExperience · 17/10/2020 08:46

I wish we had never got involved with our buyers. They (I suspect it's him out of the couple) are the most arrogant gits I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. They have messed us around for months and caused part of the upper chain to collapse because of all their delays. We have bent over backwards to accommodate their ridiculous ongoing demands and now they have delayed us again. Arrrggghh!

NewHouseNewMe · 17/10/2020 08:50

Sorry @DeeplyMovingExperience - I don't recall a previous post about your buyers. What kind of antics are they up to?
Some of the things I hear here..

Iseeyoulookingatme · 17/10/2020 09:09

Our solicitor is going through the mortgage paperwork and noticed a chimney breast has been removed and they want paperwork for it. Why was this not on the report? I'm losing the will to live with the mortgage company. I'm on week 11 so hoping for a date soon, I want to be in my new home before another lock down happens in my area.

Jedstre · 17/10/2020 09:40

Congratulations to @ChristmasTree999 on exchange. I’m really hoping we exchange next week. What’s completion date?

@notangelinajolie your situation very like ours. Back in July we went to best and final after a week and went with the highest bidder by quite a way. We’re very lucky. She’s a cash buyer, absolutely knew what she wanted and had been following the market closely. She hasn’t been phased by a few things that came up on the survey. We also didn’t have a property when she made that offer (well we did initially then got gazumped) but we found one and hoping we can all exchange next week. Good luck.

Badgerbadger88 · 17/10/2020 09:43

@Jujuball hopefully you can unwind this weekend. It must be hugely stressful being on both sides of the process. I often think conveyancers must have a stressful day job too. Send you lots of love Flowers wellbeing is especially important in 2020 xx

I have really detached myself from this house. I hate waking up here. My new house is a dream come true (and cheaper!).

Yesterday I viewed the local area, had a little walk and cried when I had to leave.

6-8 weeks for searches. It’s really shit.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 17/10/2020 09:52

We accepted their offer in June - even though it was less than we wanted. They gave us all kinds of reassurances about being proceed able. Since then we've had every kind of inspection under the sun, not all at the same time either. Weeks go by then they want to inspect something else. Then weeks of radio silence. Then their solicitor goes on holiday (which I don't believe for a minute).

It's as though they are completely unable to agree on anything, just to be awkward. Our vendors lost the house they wanted to buy because of the delays, and the whole upward chain fell apart. It's been the most hideously stressful experience and they're still being awkward about agreeing dates.

Some people are just a total nightmare to deal with.

Badgerbadger88 · 17/10/2020 09:57

@DeeplyMovingExperience They sound horrendous! Sad

NewHouseNewMe · 17/10/2020 12:11

@DeeplyMovingExperience With people like this, I would give an ultimatum.. Exchange by 1st Nov or the house will be shown on the internet again.
I strongly believe there is a limit and that time wasters like this are exactly the sort to pull out at exchange or try to negotiate a discount. Hence I'd show you mean business now.

Baxdream · 17/10/2020 15:32

We've been in that exact situation before. We put our house back on the market and completed in 6 weeks. It was so so stressful and I regret not pulling the plug sooner!

Notyetthere · 17/10/2020 16:05

Thank you all for the very kind words. I feel better now that I have scrubbed some areas of the house. All our stuff is here and I was very surprised to be very happy to see my potted plants arrive and are looking great in the front garden.

I told dad when he arrived that I would have to replace the kitchen as it was really damaged. I think the doors have previously suffered from damp or burst water pipe so some are expanded and the kick boards are decayed. But dads reaction was "we shall board then up and they will be good as new". I liked that and I felt ashamed even being like that. It is a lovely home. X

Haggled · 17/10/2020 16:34

Can I tentatively join this thread please?

Long time renter, and finally have come into some money which affords me and DP a deposit. We’ve seen a broker who is hopefully getting us an AIP in the next couple of days. We are viewing our first house soon. It is the max end of our budget and isn’t mind blowing inside but it is detached with a fully detached garage which I’m assuming bumps the price up. There’s not a lot else in the area we want which fits our criteria, I’m checking Rightmove a couple of times a day like a mad woman Blush

crankysaurus · 17/10/2020 17:22

I keep checking Rightmove, just to know what's about if our house we've offered in falls through but we're completely in the land of teeny tiny third bedrooms. They're hopeless.

MollyButton · 17/10/2020 17:39

I hope by saying you are checking Rightmove - you mean you are also checking Zoopla and OnTheMarket, as some houses only ever appear on one, and usually they can only be on two. If you are pretty certain of what and where then you can sign up for alerts. And it can still be worth talking to good Estate Agents as they can give you the heads up when something is about to come on the market.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 17/10/2020 18:00

I do feel like I've been taken for a fool. I always tend to think the best of people and to take them at their word. And I feel like I can't just completely do my pieces and tell them where to go, because then we would be back at square one.

@Baxdream - I wish I had your bravery. Wish I had told them to piss off months ago. I was a chicken.

Baxdream · 17/10/2020 19:26

@DeeplyMovingExperience oh we weren't brave. This was months into the process when I was backed into a corner and knew we had to get rid.
This was 7 years ago now and I know the couple that offered on our old house have never moved so clearly weren't bothered about moving!

Badgerbadger88 · 19/10/2020 08:45

Hello Monday. Please bring me progress Smile

I like list making.... has anyone got a step by step list of conveyancing for a purchase / sale?

I’d get the greatest of pleasure ticking off the “completed things / jobs” on a piece of paper on the fridge Grin

Simonsaysitschristmas · 19/10/2020 11:11

Ah another week of hoping. I can’t tell whether this week is going to be full of lots of progress or no progress at all for our house move.

Lurchermom · 19/10/2020 11:12

Good luck to anyone who is hoping to make progress this week!!

Have any of you who have gone into rented got pets (particularly dogs)? We were trying to avoid rented at all costs because we know it can be a big issue. But with our tree issue (too close to house on survey) we are worried it will either take a while to sort or will fall through completely so we want to look at our options. Our buyers' mortgage offer is up in December Sad and apart from feedback from their survey and the final few enquiries we are pretty much ready to go afaik. The last thing we want to do is lose them at this late stage. And who knows atm if they could even get a new mortgage offer/renewal.
