@Lemonylemony nice pic of the keys but would've preferred a photo of the actual house! Your house buying nightmare journey is finally over phew! ( Question is, was it all worth it in the end?) And how many weeks did it take from offer accepted?

@Lemonylemony Huge congratulations. Hope you settle in quickly to your new home.

Jujuball · 06/10/2020 17:48

Aww yay congratulations @Lemonylemony!! Amazing news Grin really chuffed for you! Hope you enjoy your first night in your new home Smile

Lurchermom · 06/10/2020 18:07

@Lemonylemony

Thanks everyone!

I got the keys.....lol! Looks like we’ll be playing key roulette this evening!

Thankyou everyone in the thread for the solidarity and support and advice and rant space for the past few months.

Congratulations!! What an exciting bundle!
Zebrahooves · 06/10/2020 19:30

@Lemonylemony surely there isn't a lock for every key 😱

RegularTourist · 06/10/2020 19:59

Congratulations on completing, nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Our buyers pulled out today, chain has crumbled. Back to square one. It's just so exhausting.

checkedcloth · 06/10/2020 20:02

@Lemonylemony congratulations to you!

Oh no! Did they give a reason? How far along were you?
InescapableDeath · 06/10/2020 20:30

Congrats Lemony!

Another day with no properties coming up in my price range (you'd think there would be plenty in 400-550k, right?). I'm so fed up.

I've asked to see the online video of a 575k house we can't afford (but maybe they would take an offer??) but the estate agent is so cautious (arguably sensibly so) they never just reply to me and send the videos of their properties. They won't let you view in person without seeing the video first, and they're hidden listings on Youtube so no way to find them without them actually agreeing to send. Argh! They know my budget is lower, which is probably what's behind not sending it over but I've said for the right house we may be willing to stretch and still no video!

Though this one is technically too expensive for what I'd like to risk spending, it's still well within the AIP we can get, and it's in a perfect location.

There's nothing else out there! I think my buyer has been waiting 3.5 weeks now...

InescapableDeath · 06/10/2020 20:30

God that was too convoluted to make sense. Sigh. Back to leafleting tomorrow.

Wherewhatwhy · 06/10/2020 20:31

@RegularTourist Oh no Sad I know this feeling well as it's happened to us three times now, most recently last week. We have kept the chain together by taking a much lower offer from someone who viewed originally back in July after the EA rang around to gauge interest. I don't know if that is an option for you or not but I hope things start to progress for you soon.

Notyetthere · 06/10/2020 20:53

@Lemonylemony CONGRATULATIONS! We all should be right behind you.

We are completing last minute packing now. So much stuff. We complete on our sale Thursday but we really want to be out tomorrow so that we have the place cleaned properly with plenty of time.

Called our bank today and finally, on working day 42, the mortgage offer was posted yesterday afternoon. They were meant to fax it to our solicitor but seems to be somebody in the offer team sent it by letter. Nothing gets done properly first time on anything. They say one thing and do something else instead. So frustrating. We were hoping that we could pop into our solicitor's office and sign the offer so that she could request funds asap and hopefully complete on our purchase by Tuesday or Wednesday next week or earlier but we understand they need 5 days to request funds. We have paid for a hotel till Wednesday next week so it would be nice if we didn't have to extend our stay. I spent a ridiculous amount of time calling today the bank to get them to fax; that department then sends an email to the offer team to send the fax. I bet by the time all of this gets done, we will have received the post copy anyway. So frustrating. I actually hid in the shed and screamed!

Notyetthere · 06/10/2020 20:55

Or even that the posted offer will arrive here when we have actually moved out of here. We can't book redirection of post as we still haven't exchanged. We are in that middle bit at the moment with no address.

BigHuff · 06/10/2020 21:06

Think we're about to crumble too. Our vendor went awol last week, which was worrying - now says she doesn't want to complete until November. I'm fuming. I think we might end up pulling out over this.

NewHouseNewMe · 06/10/2020 21:11

@RegularTourist Oh no! What happened? Was it financing issues?

Congrats on getting the (many) keys to the door @Lemonylemony

RegularTourist · 06/10/2020 21:49

@Wherewhatwhy 3 times... argh. That's torturous.

Not sure we are getting the full story, seems a change of heart but I suspect financing jitters.

misscodswallop · 06/10/2020 22:15

All the best to those with success and commiserations to those with setbacks. I am in the latter group as my buyer withdrew today, gutted. They had seemed happy but then brought a doom and gloom friend who influenced them. Some moss on the roof fgs and other nonsense, wont bore you, long story. Feel very stressed and won't be so trusting again.

Back on the market and fingers crossed for a lovely new buyer. Good luck to all.

NewHouseNewMe · 06/10/2020 22:43

Oh no @misscodswallop !
This sounds stupid. These buyers will realise that no house is perfect even if brand new.
Best of luck for a new, more dependable buyer.

Yippeeforme · 07/10/2020 00:13

@misscodswallop oh fgs moss?? The roof is absolutely covered in it where we're going! How ridiculous.

notangelinajolie · 07/10/2020 01:42

Hi 😊
Our house just went 'live' on Rightmove this afternoon so I hope it's ok if I join you all?
Hoping for a quick sale because we live on a very sought after road which is minutes from the best secondary schools in the country.
I think selling will be easy but from previous housemoves I know that after that it will be anything but.
Our house looks stunning on estate agents photos but it is all a front. We have damp, a cheap B&Q kitchen, laminate floors, manky carpets, shitty gravel on the drive, no building regs for the garage conversion and the bifold doors need serious 'adjusting' Confused . We may be in a desirable location but surveyors will suss us out in an instant.
We are the ultimate fake house. Fur coat and no knickers as my late mum would say.
In our defence we have a very private, large spectacular back garden which looks out onto open countryside and a new boiler and a new roof so hoping for buyers with children that like hot water, gardening and non leaky roofs.

I have cleaned, polished and scrubbed everything within a inch if it's life - I can do no more except hope and pray we can buy but the forever house we have seen that somebody has already had a third viewing on Shock I am so out of the loop - is 3 viewings a thing now? What is wrong with it?

kerrymucklowe2020 · 07/10/2020 07:53

Moss on roof shouldn't be a problem unless blocking gutters

misscodswallop · 07/10/2020 08:15

Thank you for replying. I managed that viewing myself, their third and this time with the catastrophising friend. Some moss on the ground as well, oh dear. I was too trusting as it was sold stc and left them alone in my home, don't anyone be as soft like gullible me.

The whole visit took over one and a half hours, its not a mansion, just a two bed. Even the loft was accessed. I keep thinking what was going on all that time, maybe they were swingers having a threesome on my cream carpets. But apparently I am a lovely person, thank you for that, not!

misscodswallop · 07/10/2020 08:28

Interesting link, thank you. It just shows that guy was spouting nonsense.

NewHouseNewMe · 07/10/2020 08:54

Third viewings only a thing if you aren't sure, in my experience @notangelinajolie
Your house sounds great, damp notwithstanding. Why are you moving?

Yippeeforme · 07/10/2020 09:06

@notangelinajolie good luck!! We've not got any documents on an extension done to this house approx 15 years ago, but it didn't seem to hold up our purchase of it, so hopefully it won't be a problem now we're selling. We told our buyers this and it didn't seem to bother them.

Hopefully you'll find a buyer who likes a project and doesn't mind living with the wonky stuff for a while!
