3 bedrooms, only 1 bathroom. Would this put you off?

Sorry if this has been done before, but I'd really welcome thoughts on this. We viewed a house today which I really liked but it only has one bathroom (not even a separate downstairs toilet). It's not particularly a problem for me but I'm worried about selling on.

Would you be put off buying a house with only one bathroom?

Not make or break for me personally.

Pickypolly · 20/09/2020 14:52

Not unless I were the queen or a lady of the realm or some such.
We live quite happily in a 3 bed with only one bathroom & loo.
Wouldn’t mind at all.

hypochondriaceveywhere · 20/09/2020 14:52

Wouldn't put me off.

TheBeesKnee · 20/09/2020 14:54

I think it depends on the size of the house. I live in a 3 bedroom terraced house which is tiny and realistically will never house more than 2 adults and 1-2 small DC at the most. The third "bedroom" is so small that it will never be anything other than an office. So one bathroom is fine.

However, if it was a larger house I would expect a second WC or at least the space to put one in.

Stinkyjellycat · 20/09/2020 14:58

It would put me off.

ColouringPencils · 20/09/2020 14:58

That is the norm round here

ChanklyBore · 20/09/2020 15:00

That’s a standard house. I’ve never lived in a house with more than one bathroom and I’ve lived in 1,2,3,4 beds.

Bluntness100 · 20/09/2020 15:00

It wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me, but would put me off, I’d rather two loos.

MsKeats · 20/09/2020 15:01

Yes it would put me off.

JoJoSM2 · 20/09/2020 15:02

Sounds like a standard house. Perhaps you could add a loo downstairs?

fitzbilly · 20/09/2020 15:03

Yes it would put me off.

I’m not sure, I think a lot of houses now have downstairs loos.
SnuggyBuggy · 20/09/2020 15:07

Depends on the size, if it's a 3 bed with 3 bedroom sized bedrooms yes, if it's a small 2 bed with a boxroom not so much.

Catawaul · 20/09/2020 15:07

Would put me off.

bathorshower · 20/09/2020 15:09

Is there anywhere you could put a second toilet, preferably not en suite? When we bought our current house, we were considering 3 and 4 bed properties, but two toilets or the ability to put one in was a deal breaker.

Soubriquet · 20/09/2020 15:10

Until we moved into our current house, I have always lived in a house with one bathroom. Even when I was growing up

It wouldn’t put me off. A second bathroom is a bonus but not a necessity

This is typical, surely?

It's what I grew up with (private, not council).

Anawi · 20/09/2020 15:12

We've lived in a 3 bedroom house with one bathroom happily for years! Never lived anywhere with a second toilet up be honest. We are currently moving and near the top of our list of wants was a second toilet. Now we have 3 children, oldest 10 and starting to want more privacy, it's something we wanted along with another bedroom. But it certainly wouldn't and didnt put us off in the past with a smaller/younger family or no children, it would have been a great bonus but not essential.

Oblomov20 · 20/09/2020 15:13

I think this is the norm for a lot of standard houses.

We have a downstairs toilet. And an extra shower upstairs.

But it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 20/09/2020 15:14

I think it’s very normal. Our last house was a 3 bed with one bathroom. We’re now in a 4 bed with one bathroom, but does have a downstairs toilet.

1990shopefulftm · 20/09/2020 15:15

No it's not a problem for me, that's the situation with have in our current house

littlecontis · 20/09/2020 15:16

Yes it would put me off. I will not buy a house with just one bathroom

notheragain4 · 20/09/2020 15:20

Deal breaker for me. In our area in our budget when we were buying a few years ago we had the choice between large older 3 beds with 1 bathroom (1960s ish) vs much smaller new build 3 bed but with 3 toilets, downstairs, main and en-suite, I don't regret it for a second. We've since upsized but bathrooms are more important than space to me and I'd make the same decision again if I had to.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/09/2020 15:20

It wouldn't put me off not to have a second bathroom or shower room, but only one toilet would be a deal breaker for me.

OfUselessBooks · 20/09/2020 15:21

It wouldn't put me off at all. I grew up in a house like this and have lived in one for the last 10 years (the last 4 years with 2 children).

We are getting a new house with a downstairs loo, but it wasn't on my list of essentials, just a nice to have. If everything else was ok I'd go for it.
