Cooking on induction

Do you all like it? Why? Does it compare to gas?

My next property (hopefully) has no mains gas so was hoping to use calor gas. DH says he'd like induction as it's less of a faff.

Looking to hear all opinions please!

Induction cookers are brilliant. The temperature control is as instant as gas so completely different from conventional electric cookers which take forever to heat up or cool down and most pots and pans are compatible these days so there really are no drawbacks. I cooked on gas hobs for years and always preferred them to old style electric but having now switched to an induction hob I'd never go back to gas. It's just so much easier to clean, no gas smells and far less extraneous heat so the kitchen gets far less hot when all the hobs are in use. It does take a bit of getting used to, the heat can go up and down in "pulses" (this may be less evident in more expensive makes) and you need a higher setting for simmering which seems weird at first but you soon get used to it. I really can't think of any downsides, unless you have a pacemaker, in which case you may need to look into it more carefully. For everyone else though, I can't recommend induction hobs enough, they're great.

I love it. I would never go back to a gas hob now.

I have always been strictly gas but after cooking on my in laws induction I would be very tempted to change, if only because of how much easier they are to clean!!

We had induction...loved it, now back on gas and I can’t wait to get an induction again.

We’ve had an induction hob installed recently in our new kitchen and we love it. Easy to control heat and to clean. It also doesn’t make the kitchen hot and cools quickly to enable a wipe over, a benefit of the hob only working where a pan makes contact.

I had gas hobs in my old houses, I now have an induction I really don't like it.

I wish we'd have stuck with gas.

I don't love mine, but having lived with calor gas I would choose induction over calor every time. Calor doesn't give you to pressure to boil water quickly etc, it's frustratingly slow compared with induction which will literally boil a big pan of water faster than a kettle will.

I do love how easy it is to clean - much, much easier than even a conventional electric hob because things stop cooking as soon as they leave the pan, and vastly easier than cleaning a gas hob.

I am on record in a number of threads with the following view:

Induction is the biz. Beats gas hands down. Best thing we got in our kitchen (and I speak as a former gas-lover who would scream if forced to use a normal electric hob!)

Yes I had gas for 20 years. We now have no gas so use an induction. I prefer it

Love it. You need to check your saucepans will work on it or get new ones.

They are great in principle. Cast iron pans work really well on them. The only thing is you might find is some have annoying or non obvious push button controls, worth checking reviews or instructions first.

I hated our induction. It spent half its time beeping at me, and the rest of the time frustrating me. The only improvement on the battered old electric rings we had before the landlord replaced the kitchen was the ease of cleaning. Loving our gas now.
That said, I think I'd go for induction over calor gas.

We had a rental with an induction hob and I got good pans from Tk Maxx.

I absolutely hate induction. It's slightly better than ordinary electric but not a patch on gas. Unfortunately we have no gas and I wouldn't bother with calor.

I've always loved gas but to get the stuff piped to this property will be...£20K+

I planned on having calor but it would be loads more straightforward to have induction.

Induction far and away my favourite

Thing to note is that there are basically 2 types of induction. First is the hard wired 35amp hob that is just fabulous. Second is a newer version which plugs in to a 13amp socket and which I inadvertently bought recently. It’s mince. Basically cooking by candle is more effective.
So be sure you get the right one for you and it’s great.

Had has in our last house and when we moved new house had an electric hob we've redone kitchen and DH talked me into an induction hob as he'd seen one at his friends hiuse. It's fabulous just as responsive as gas and so easy to clean.

When people say they hate induction I always really want to ask what crappy “induction” they have. I literally can’t imagine how anyone could hate what we have.... (I mean, you might like gas because it chargrills aubergine skin, but to feel actively anti-induction on performance grounds suggests you don’t have a very good hob...)

This will sound quite poncy but at chef school we were told that if cooking on gas is like driving a sports car, then induction is a Formula 1

Induction is vastly superior in terms of control, and not only that it is a doddle to keep pristine clean. I have (had) a B&B and home restaurant so my induction gets a hammering. But 5 years later it still looks spotless.

Siemens induction here, it really is the biz, had a gas range before and would not go back. You need decent pans with a good magnetic force, this really makes a difference and I wonder if this is why some people don’t get on with induction. I had some supermarket induction pans which were rubbish but invested in a decent set of pans which are far superior and heat much quicker.

I'm clearly the only one! I just feel like some of the meals I cook just don't cook as well on induction as they did on gas.
