Hope it's ok to start a new thread.
Bottom of our chain should exchange on Monday and then the top will hopefully exchange a week later. I dont quite understand, something to do with a charge on our buyers house which needs to be released first.
Aiming to complete on 15th July, so hopefully not much longer.
I will never move again, and definitely not in a chain of 10!

Yay my estate agent just messaged to say the mortgage survey is happening on Monday and then they'll start with all the legal side. I don't thjnk they realise how long all the legal stuff takes. But never mind for us. It's got tenants in so the longer they take the more income for us and less for them.

Maybenexttime08 · 14/07/2020 18:56

Congratulations everyone who has moved forward!

Our buyer has their mortgage valuation tomorrow and home buyers survey next week. I won't relax until they are done as it is an old, slightly odd property, so could go either way!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 14/07/2020 20:21

@SollaSollew similar situation here! Our mortgage application was rushed through just in time as the lender was changing their criteria the next day (taking less % of bonuses into account, we need bonuses included!) and it’s also pretty near the max of what we can borrow. We didn’t have a mortgage in principle either as it all moved so much quicker than we expected we didn’t have time. Super worried it will take ages and then be rejected and we’ll be weeks down and no further forward/everything will get super delayed Confused We’re also a short, straightforward chain so should all be quite a quick process - worried we will be the ones holding everyone else up. Want to move ASAP but really need a mortgage offer before I can start pushing to get things done quickly. Such a stressful time!

Notyetthere · 14/07/2020 21:44

@Karcheer Hope all goes well tomorrow. I would be interested in the graduate thread as the place we are buying is a 2 bed bungalow that we plan to extend into a 4 bed. However, we are at the start of the process so we might be a while.

@SollaSollew I'm just about to start the mortgage porting limbo dance. We had our offer accepted today. We were with NW before switching last year and we were really happy with them at the time. We only left as we knew we would not pass for their affordability. We called our current mortgage provider today and they are going to do exactly the same as yours. The first call will be with the application team and then another appointment for the full application; which no appointments are not available till beginning of August. I'm nervous about this actually. The figures worked when we wanted to see if we could move but now we really are doing it you worry you misunderstood what they said. We are borrowing 40% of what the lender confirmed they would lend us extra on top of our current mortgage balance. Hopefully our process is smoother as we are both payee and nothing has changed ever since we switched our mortgage to them last year.

The house we are buying is the one we saw and started this process but it sold before we had listed ours for sale. This was about 4 weeks ago. It came back on today, we booked a viewing immediately and made full asking price offer 45 mins later. We lost out on another house last week trying to get a discount so this time we decided we should go for all in with the condition that they cancel any future viewings.

Notyetthere · 14/07/2020 21:53

Oh yes we also had a phone call from our agent about our buyer enquiring about when a survey would be completed. They also asked about any items that we intended to leave or sell to them. They have been lovely buyers so far that whatever we are leaving we won't charge for it. They are in rented so they will probably need some of the stuff (i'm only guessing here) and we are moving into a smaller place that we shall extend but in the meantime we won't have the space so we are happy to leave some items.

Lemonylemony · 15/07/2020 07:18

Good luck today @Karcheer!

bellyislikejelly · 15/07/2020 07:52

Congrats @GherkinsOnToast - sounds great!

Good luck today @Karcheer - we will all be waiting for the news

Will need that new thread - we have walls to knock down etc

Didicat · 15/07/2020 08:54

Good luck @Karcheer hope it goes smoothly as possible

SollaSollew · 15/07/2020 10:00

Thanks @Didicat, @Notyetthere and @FourForYouGlenCoco you've all put my mind at rest that it's not just me! Will keep my fingers crossed for all of us.

I read my post back this morning and realised how deranged I sounded, I'm not normally like this (nor is my grammar as bad..offer excepted fgs!)

If the mortgage comes through and everything else goes ok we're also moving into a bit of a doer upper so will definitely be interested in a graduate thread. It's not as bad as our current house was when we moved in, it's mainly decoration (kitchen/bathrooms/windows/flooring and a garage conversion into an office) am casually browsing pinterest without getting my hopes up too highly.

Good luck today @Karcheer

Karcheer · 15/07/2020 10:24

I’m standing in my empty kitchen while my husband sits on the floor doing a work call lol! The house is 90% packed up they are just starting on the garden . No news of the money yet!

Lemonylemony · 15/07/2020 11:06

@Karcheer so what was agreed about the £3k worth of vendor’s stuff you don’t want?

Karcheer · 15/07/2020 13:04

What do you know, he managed to get the generator moved... we will find out whether the fridge has gone when we get there!

Sitting on our stairs in our empty old house... dum de dum...

Notyetthere · 15/07/2020 13:34

@Karcheer we are on the other side of this and our buyers have sent a list of things they would like first refusal on if we were planning on selling them anyway. They really liked our house and it seems the furniture within. Some items we are happy to leave for free and other we will take with us. a few items on the list I will put a small charge of £50 for it like the linen cupboard; as whilst I bought it 2nd hand (£102), I spent hours searching for something like it to fit perfectly in the alcove and then even more hours/days restoring it and painting it a lovely chalky colour. I still love it but I think I got it for this house and for this space so it should stay. No where near £3k you are being asked for. If we decide to leave everything then I can imagine it won't go over 1k including 1yr old dishwasher and wardrobes/cupboards that cost significantly more when bought them.

Fennelandlovage · 15/07/2020 14:19

@karcheer we are also buying a 2 bed bungalow and hoping to make a 3-4 bed with extended living too. Would love to keep in touch as our projects develop. Surveys on both sides this week so hopefully after that we can proceed with confidence.

Baldatbirth · 15/07/2020 17:03

Good luck all. Hope it is all proceeding as expected!

We viewed 3 houses today and I am exhausted. 1 needs loads of work but is the best out of the bunch. I'm just not sure if I can face doing so much work!

We have an offer on another property and I am not even sure if the estate agent has put it forward. He speaks in riddles in his email.

Estate ages also seem to lie about gardens and the house etc... And it's tiring me out. At this stage I have a feeling that we may end up staying. Nothing new has come on the market since Monday either. Does anyone know which day is busiest for listings. lol

GherkinsOnToast · 15/07/2020 19:18

Hope all has gone well Karcheer!

I know I done quite belong here any more but I’m horrified by the state our new house was in. We currently have an entire skip filled with things they left behind from sofas to mouldy bbq! Where the dishwasher and washing machine were removed, I always expect a little dirt but it took a big man with a shovel to remove the 1/2 inch thick layer of dirt from under the counters where appliances stood, there is a fridge outside we’re not even opening before they skip it! I sat and cried a little today wondering how the hell we are going to make this place habitable in 8 days! I have just ordered a new cooker because I’m not sure I could ever eat anything out of the existing cooker now matter how clean it is!

Lemonylemony · 15/07/2020 19:25

@GherkinsOnToast that’s awful, sounds like it’s really taking the shine off things. Did you have it in the contracts they would leave the property empty? Do you have recourse to charge them for removal?

Bells3032 · 15/07/2020 19:28

@Baldatbirth feeling the same. We have seen 9 houses and nothing seems right yet. Estate agents telling us its huge and its tiny and dim and dark. Or that the road is quiet and its on a really busy road. Think we are gonna take a break. I am torn between moving forward and waiting for when/if prices drop. Just don't know what to do and doing my head in

DeeplyMovingExperience · 15/07/2020 21:29

@GherkinsOnToast - that's such a shitty thing to do. I am sure there was something on our legals that says we have to leave the house empty and clean. What is the matter with people, leaving a house in that state for their buyers?

I'm sure you'll be able to make it lovely.

GherkinsOnToast · 16/07/2020 07:09

Yes there is something in the legals but I’m not sure I can be bothered with fighting with anyone - it’s taken since February to get this Far so I’m just going to be thankful for my new home and whinge at DH about it!

Melrose86 · 16/07/2020 07:49

I have 4 viewers coming today so I'm up early cleaning 😁

Baldatbirth · 16/07/2020 08:32

Good luck @Melrose86

I'm hoping more properties will be listed this weekend.

Notyetthere · 16/07/2020 12:15

Even if we are still early in the process (mortgage application today), we have started decluttering and I will pack stuff as I go along. Nobody will miss those vases and prints on the wall for a while. And nobody needs as many clothes as we have. I mean to be ruthless in this decluttering.

DH has occasionally stared out into the garden over the last few days and proceeds to ask me, "Do you intend to take those plants in the pots and planters with us to the next house?" My answer is yes. Everytime he asks, same answer Grin. I have nurtured and fiddled about with these plants for years and build up my little collection so I wish to not have to start from scratch. He dreads having to carry some of them but I think between the two of us, we should be able to shift them in a couple of trips in the car. We are moving about 0.6miles away.

Notyetthere · 16/07/2020 12:16

@Melrose86 Good luck with the viewings.

Notyetthere · 16/07/2020 12:42

Mortgages - Are people finding the process taking longer than usual? We have just started the process and our bank confirmed that we have passed affordability. They then mentioned that it will take on average 8-10 weeks for approval as they have a backlog. Anybody else facing the same thing?
