Sellers/Buyers Roll Call 8 and still going

Hope it's ok to start a new thread.
Bottom of our chain should exchange on Monday and then the top will hopefully exchange a week later. I dont quite understand, something to do with a charge on our buyers house which needs to be released first.
Aiming to complete on 15th July, so hopefully not much longer.
I will never move again, and definitely not in a chain of 10!

@Endlessmizzle what on Earth! I wonder did she get caught up in minimising her disappointment from the previous house that fell through and get a little carried away offering more than she was happy to? Either way what an utterly rubbish outcome for you. You deserve a smoother ride from now on.

Sounds like generally a lot of frustration with the speed things are moving. We've had an entire week of no progress. Nothing has happened. No one has given any update - not the EA, solicitor (although they did pick up the phone at least) or broker. We were meant to hear about mortgage offer this Tuesday and broker won't answer phone or even email to say there has been a delay. I find it so frustrating not being able to get hold of people.

Also wondering what our buyers have done so far, who is best to ask - EA or solicitor? I don't really want to fork out for our own survey until I know they've at least started the process more than only instruct a solicitor.

houseofrabbits · 31/07/2020 20:02

@Wherewhatwhy this may not be correct but when we have needed updates about the sellers of the house we are buying we have asked the EA. To me it seems quicker because they have direct contact with the sellers. If we went through our solicitor they would need to contact the sellers' solicitor who would then contact the sellers. This would also be the case for getting updates on yours buyers?

Wherewhatwhy · 31/07/2020 20:06

@houseofrabbits thank you that's helpful - thinking about it EAs have a sales progression team contact so I would guess this is the sort of thing they could help with. Hopefully they will be less evasive than everyone else!

I think you could be right. Also at the end of the day it’s a lot of money and she has to be happy, it’s just the bizarre way she went about it.

God I thought I could never forget how slow sales are in UK but it sounds like everyone is going through the mill.

The good news is we’ve decided to crack on and sell anyway, so hopefully we will be okay.

Lemonylemony · 31/07/2020 22:17

This thread is good. As in it’s good to know we’re all being ignored by brokers/solicitors. Solidarity.

They must be returning someones calls and emails though. Or are they all on a socially distanced holiday together somewhere.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 31/07/2020 22:22

@Endlessmizzle that is horrifying!

I had a weird situation last night. Our buyers unexpectedly turned up and they came in for another look around.

They had wanted someone to come and have a look at the back of the building which we'd agreed to, and I'd tidied the house, but obviously had I known they were going to come over I'd have done more prettifying and decluttering. They are nice but I am worried now that they will have spotted something dodgy or want money off the arrangement. We accepted their offer in the middle of June.

Endlessmizzle · 31/07/2020 23:37

@ibuiltahomeforyou oh god that sounds like my worst nightmare. Middle of June - what is your likely completion date?

ohheckhelpme · 01/08/2020 00:18

Well I finally have the keys only six hours after completion and property legally mine. There is a nice present for me....a pile of what I think is dog shit in the back flower bed. My head is thumping. I plan to send the agents a photo tomorrow. Property looks immaculate inside so can hardly believe it.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 01/08/2020 07:44

@Endlessmizzle hoping to complete this month! Our survey was done on July 23rd but hasn't been sent to us yet. The buyers' survey on our house was done this week.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 01/08/2020 07:45

@ohheckhelpme congratulations! (Minus the dog poo)

Lemonylemony · 01/08/2020 10:04

Congratulations @ohheckhelpme!

They probably didn’t even know it was there, or a fox/cat did it after they left. Poop happens as they say Grin. Did they have a dog?

AmateurHour · 01/08/2020 10:47

I cannot BELIEVE that some developers aren’t passing on the stamp duty benefit to the buyers, it seems so corrupt! How is it allowed?!

Thanks for good wishes re the mortgage offer! I feel like I should be more relived than I am! But it’s onto the next hurdle- chasing solicitors who seem to be permanently on holiday at the moment 😡 builders survey is booked in for the 13th. I’m not sure at what point I’ll feel certain! Maybe only when I have the keys 😬

AmateurHour · 01/08/2020 10:49

OhhHeck* what a present! Congratulations on getting in there though! I feel like at the moment it may be a bit of a race to get in before any local lockdowns 😬

ohheckhelpme · 01/08/2020 11:17

Oh thank you those for tagging me, I'm a bit stressed as hardly slept and then been doing a clean. Yes they had a dog, I suspect I've found the disposable area, never mind. Good luck to everyone, mine has been six months in the making.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 01/08/2020 12:51

Congratulations @ohheckhelpme - tbh after some of the horror stories I’ve heard, a pile of dog poo seems fairly manageable - at least it’s outside Grin

@AmateurHour I feel exactly the same re the race against time - desperate to get in before any more lockdowns happen! I’m hoping to complete in 6 weeks ish from now.

Anyone know how long surveys generally take these days? Survey and enquiries on our purchase is the only big thing to do now, I’m hoping they’ll get underway next week once our solicitors finally get the paperwork they need from sellers’ solicitors. Keeping everything crossed it’s quick from here on in!

Lemonylemony · 01/08/2020 13:19

The flowers there will be well fed at least :)

ohheckhelpme · 01/08/2020 13:51

And then I opened the oven, greasy, stained, the dirty beggers. Doing this all on my own at nearly 70, some friends arriving soon to help. If I didnt laugh I'd cry. Sorry to moan but you've all made me smile/

kerrymucklowe2020 · 01/08/2020 16:55

ohheckhelpme oh no! That IS disgusting!
Sounds like it's been a long journey for you. Hope you get your oven sorted and you start to enjoy your new home!

kerrymucklowe2020 · 01/08/2020 16:57

Went to ( 2nd viewing?) To measure up today and seller hoping to complete by end August! That would be great, but EA and solicitor say highly unlikely and more like end September........we will have to see......

Zebrahooves · 01/08/2020 16:59

@ohheckhelpme we had a second viewing and opened the fridge and freezer which had been switched off Confused. We have asked for it to be cleaned before we exchange. I'm ready and prepared to clean just about anything else, and the house is a bit grubby, but the fridge freezer had us all gagging - mould and slime Envy not envy.

Notyetthere · 01/08/2020 19:28

You all talking of disgusting fridges; I have spent most of today cleaning the house ready for our buyer's 2nd viewing tomorrow. We are also leaving our fridge so I gave it a good clean. In case they decided to open and peer into the items that we are leaving. I dont know how people leave these things not cleaned. I would be too embarrassed.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 01/08/2020 21:06

I know Ive got a long time yet but.....can anyone recommend moving boxes?

Lemonylemony · 01/08/2020 21:29

Ooh. I think we have our mortgage offer. No actual update from the broker (quelle surprise) but I just idly logged in to the lender’s tracker portal and yesterday’s date is logged against “date case offered”

Whoop! (I think)

kerrymucklowe2020 · 01/08/2020 21:48

Lemonylemony oooh! Exciting!

Baxdream · 01/08/2020 22:21

We have our mortgage offer! It took all of 3 days, well done Halifax 😊 our broker is amazing!
