I like the look of the second one much much more.

MamaGee09 · 08/08/2019 16:21

I love the layout and the size of the rooms of the first one however I love the modernness of the kitchen/dining area as well as the bathrooms in the second one however I don’t like that there is only one bedroom upstairs.

notaflyingmonkey · 08/08/2019 16:21

I can't believe what you can get for your money compared to what we are looking at (south).

Does the second one have 3 ovens?

Theworldisfullofgs · 08/08/2019 16:24

First one. The flow is better.

HaileySherman · 08/08/2019 16:24

Honestly they are both lovely, though. How exciting.

spinderella76 · 08/08/2019 16:25

First by a long way!

Durhambound2 · 08/08/2019 16:25

No, 2nd one only had two ovens, but i think it had a microwave built in as well 😁

We always have a giggle at pesspool Lane! (used to live a couple of miles away) plus is it's right on the 24 bus route for the kids

Ikeameatballs · 08/08/2019 16:29

With teens I really think that privacy and a sense of their own space will be better achieved in the first one.

Durhambound2 · 08/08/2019 16:31

The first one was built by the owners, the houses there are all self build, so it is all floorboards and internal walls are all brick, not plasterboard.
The 2nd one was a normal bugalow that has been extended and reconfigured. I liked it, but it just did not feel as solid iyswim.
There are more rooms on propert one that arent shown on pics. An office/study/lounge they have set up as a little cinema room - cup holders and all😂
The loft is fecking huge. Could easily get more rooms if you needed them, but would spoil the lovely gallery landing.
The garage isnot a garage on propert one. It is double width half depth, if that makes sense. Could not get a car in there, but they have loads of storage and freezers etc.,

Property one does not have so much storage, but according to dp we just collect junk if there us somewhere to keep it anyway 😁

Durhambound2 · 08/08/2019 16:32

Sorry - PROPERTY TWO DOES NOT HAVE AS MUCH STORAGE!

Anybody else reading this thread and wanting to move to Durham Grin.

AlbertWinestein · 08/08/2019 16:41

With two teens, first one. More space, more communal space and garden is fine for some sofas and a fire pit to all chill out in. Also the second one’s interior is going to date really quickly.

PickAChew · 08/08/2019 16:42

I can recommend it, @Ragwort! Though we're in the city itself, now, and you get a lot less for your money! (plus is that everything is in walking distance)

Gingerivy · 08/08/2019 16:44

First one, definitely.

Not keen on the layout of second one, but then I don't like having bedrooms downstairs.

GoGoPowerRangers · 08/08/2019 16:45

Bloody hell, you get a lot of house for your money in Durham!

I like number 1.

As other PPs have said, number 2 doesn't seem to flow as well

Fortheloveofscience · 08/08/2019 16:47

First one. Layout in second one would annoy you in no time, plus you lose a bedroom and no storage space in the loft.

Not normally a fan of newish houses but the way they’ve laid out that first one is really lovely.

AltheaVestr1t · 08/08/2019 16:48

Number 1, I much prefer the layout!

Durhambound2 · 08/08/2019 16:49

Yep, you do get value for money!
These houses are in an old pit village, not a pretty village green type place, but really, really friendly. Good community spirit ( we know of it through the Lisa Dixon centre).

Living here means we can go mortgage free, so, win win!

Thanks for everyones input. No wonder dp and I cant agree, seems we have split MN too! I take comfort from the fact that most posters like my house best, so will insist we go for property one when dp gets back tomorrow 😁 i will tell him that MN commands it is so......

Number 1! It's more homely, and looks more spacious.

GreenTulips · 08/08/2019 16:52

The other issue with a done up house is some of it may well be superficial.

I’d be worried about the constant cleaning and perfection rather than the preferred lived in look!

TwigTheWonderKid · 08/08/2019 16:57

First one defintitley. And don't rip out the sauna until you've tried it!

Panda761 · 08/08/2019 16:58

I think it's all down to personal taste. House 1 is much more me. A person who prefers more modern would choose number 2 I'd expect. Both are lovely though and an absolute bargain compared to house prices where I live!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 08/08/2019 16:59

First one - looks brighter with higher ceilings.
The bedrooms in house 2 look a bit depressing soul less

HUZZAH212 · 08/08/2019 17:05

House 1 definitely does have the better flow as pp's have stated. Plus it just seems better set up for family friendly living; kitchen, dining, snug/tv area, utility. House 2 looks like the main fridge/freezer you'd have to traipse through the extension to get everything out of the utility? Same to access the washer/dryer, which would grow annoying very quickly. Plus even if you switch the dinning/sofa area for easy access the kitchen still seems a one person cooking zone unless everyone squashes round the breakfast counter.
