One.

Two has an unappealing floor plan and I think it would be harder to sell in future as a result.

buttertoasty · 08/08/2019 15:41

I think first one, as if I held the second one I would settle for how it is inside and wouldn't be motivated to decorate etc.

CottonSock · 08/08/2019 15:41

Only decorating that jumped out at me was some patterned wall paper and brown curtain rails in main bedroom

Comefromaway · 08/08/2019 15:42

The first one.

Look at the exterior brickwork on the second one, its tired and will require a lot of upkeep.

I love dormer bungalows and have been looking at several recently but the layout of the first one is better. Of course a lot depends on the needs of your family (we need work from home/have clients to visit office/music room space so open plan doesn't work for us)

The bedrooms are much bigger on the first one too.

daisypond · 08/08/2019 15:43

I like the first house more but would be concerned about the lack of garden. Is that paved bit at the back all there is? The second house looks nice at the back but the front is unappealing and the rooms inside, apart from the fab kitchen, look square and boxy.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/08/2019 15:43

1st one.

Has a better layout, bedrooms upstairs, rooms seem more spacious. Has what looks like a decent utility.

I like the little garden with the decking, etc. It's on a quiter road.

Other house has no loft so where do you put stuff, I can't stand downstairs bedrooms and I think it could make it harder to sell. Rooms don't seem as well proportioned. I don't like the kitchen.

TuckMyWin · 08/08/2019 15:44

The second one doesn't have as much communal space either.

WishIwas19again · 08/08/2019 15:45

In terms of upgrades, the windows and doors are presumably getting old (just guessing from the style they're 80/90''s) so will need replacing soon which would be costly in such a big house. I don't like the conservatory, not sure it could be used in winter as it's so big so imagine it's cold, I
would want to consider putting a roof on/rebuilding as proper extension, but not essential. The dark brown wood everywhere is not to my taste, carpets and general decorating in bedrooms looks like it needs doing. They're all things that can be done with time (lots of my house are similar) but costs and energy and disruption to bear in mind longer term

Ragwort · 08/08/2019 15:46

First one just needs a bit of redecorating if it is not to your taste (get rid of sauna). Quieter location is a bonus.

Thrupennybrit · 08/08/2019 15:51

The first one. A proper house, more space and warmer. Actually the only downside to 1 is the small garden

Comefromaway · 08/08/2019 15:53

Those of you saying no garden, do you mean no grass? Surely that is a bonus if the OP has teens not young children? Lots of patio and decking space.

TheFaerieQueene · 08/08/2019 15:53

2nd one. The first looks like thousands of other houses the second is more interesting.

behindlocknumbernine · 08/08/2019 15:54

First one.
(and I normally detest newish builds on newish estates)
It looks beautiful, flows well, large drive, quiet location.
All good :)

The second one is small with added bits. It does not flow. It feels dark and cramped.
It is on a busy road (major turn off, coming in and out of your drive will be hairy, that is before you factor in road noise)

Thrupennybrit · 08/08/2019 15:58

Pesspool Lane does not have a good ring to it even if the estate agent is claiming it's on Station Rd! This is lighthearted and not a good reason btw

daisypond · 08/08/2019 15:58

Lots of patio and decking would make it a no-go for me, even with teenage children. I would want a garden - grass, flower beds, etc. Obviously, the decking etc can be removed but that patio looks tiny.

Tabitha005 · 08/08/2019 15:58

Station St for me - just a nicer looking house all 'round and the larger/nicer garden is definitely a bonus. It looks as though it's been nicely finished and with good quality fittings.

There's definitely a better way to arrange the dining area rather than just have it as a kind of thoroughfare, with the table pushed up against the wall.

The red brick of the other one would have me reaching for the render/masonry paint within five seconds of moving in.

Comefromaway · 08/08/2019 15:59

If you look on google maps satellite view all the other houses have decent sized lawns, the present owners have just chosen to pave/deck in stead. it could be re-landscaped if thats what someone wanted.

Toooldtocareanymore · 08/08/2019 16:08

I prefer the proportion and size of rooms in house 1 far more than house 2.

Lettherebelight · 08/08/2019 16:10

No1 is 70 square metres bigger and doesn't have a black kitchen so would get my vote hands down. The extension space with the table looks very narrow too.

Downsides to 1 would be lack of garden & I wonder how that conservatory meets building refs without a door. Amazing what you get for your money though.

Durhambound2 · 08/08/2019 16:13

The pictures are not very good of the garden i think. There is a lawned area and fruit trees - apple and pear. There was also lots of fruit bushes, apart from raspberries, cant remember what else. The deck and roofed bit are nice and the top patio is big, the bottom one, not so much, but they do have a shit load of pots which would go
I see what people mean about updating, dark wood etc., did not click with me, because the house we are in now has dark wood!
The garden room seems fine atm. We viewed on the hottest day this year and they had both double doors thrown open and 2 of the 4 windows. It was warm in there, but not greenhouse hot. They also have radiators for the winter.
Dp likes the other one better simply because he thinks when kids leave the first one will feel too big.........

Outnumb3red · 08/08/2019 16:13

I prefer the first one. Don't like the layout of the second one, although it does have the better garden.

anothermansmother · 08/08/2019 16:15

2nd house. The first house is very boxy and also the lounge will be a nuisance to heat in the winter and roasting in the summer I speak from experience!

wouldyouadamandeveit · 08/08/2019 16:16

No 1 for sure. No 2 is nice, but wouldn't have to park your cars in the back garden? Also agree that it doesn't flow like no 1 does.

PazRaz10 · 08/08/2019 16:19

@Durhambound2 Definitely the 1st one - looks for more spacious and value for money.
Kids come back to visit in later years, normally bringing mates, partners and possibly grandchildren!

GreenTulips · 08/08/2019 16:20

With teens I’d take the first one

The bungalow is lovely and similar to ours, but I would like separate floors or even rooms for them to have friends round
