If you were moving in 4 weeks when would you start packing?

Just that really. Moving from a 3 bed to a 4 bed, both owned so I've no end of tenancy clean to worry about

Trying to organise myself but no idea where to start! Any ideas?

17 days (ish) until we move! Glad I started when I did

Another tip run. Sigh. I said I'd stop 😬

Some books to charity

I filled a bag with some pillows, cushions and soft toys and vacuumed out the air.

Umm that's it for me today I think. Tomorrow I'm tackling my beauty product cupboard!

@Rumours0fAHurricane -17 days until
I move and today I have...

  1. Been for a run
  2. Played tennis
  3. Went mountain biking
  4. Went swimming

About to go out for pizza on the beach.

Possibly not the best preparation to move but it's a nice holiday!

Hello!
A few ups and downs for everyone but sounds like.mostly we are all getting there.
I dropped out over the weekend as the bb etc was being moved and dodgy internet connection.
Also buyer 1 decided to fuck up their mortgage and leave us in the shit..luckily the other offer we had is still in the table so been dealing with all that.
And we moved in today, hurrah!!

Still have a few non essentials to move but nothing major. Am going to get in to the old place on Wednesday and deep(er) clean now all the stuff is moved out. Shouldn't take too long without the kids and dog running around Grin.
I'm a floppy mess this evening, so glad to see the end of it all in sight.

I meant to do a bit of work this morning then spend the afternoon packing. Ended up working all day. After all the packing, working felt like a spa day!

When I got home I started sorting through some of the stuff that I hadn't got round to unpacking after my last move, in 2014 🤣 Found some baby blankets 😍 Also discovered that I still fit into a dress from pre-children days! It's, erm, filled out a bit more now though.

Fixed the strimmer and strimmed the edges of the lawn. At least next time I move I won't have to stress about whether I'll get my deposit back 😔

Rumours0fAHurricane · 12/08/2019 22:48

@rodentforce I can remember the days of rental and the bloody hassle getting the full deposit back. It's outrageous how they try and keep it over the slightest little thing.

@Mokepon hurray! Glad you've moved in but what aggro re your first buyer. Just what you don't want

BT are telling us that because our sellers are with another supplier, they cannot connect us on the 30th when we move in. The only way round this is for me to call the EA to ask them if they'll approach the vendors and ask them to put a stop on their cancellation which will mean we can then take over the line on the 30th. Dunno what they'll think of that request! Can only ask eh?

I work from home so kind of need a broadband connection ASAP.

@sandybayley god that sounds a bit too active for my liking Grin I did however go to my Pilates class!

BT are utter nonsense, i haven't dealt with them directly in years as they annoyed me so much the last time we moved.
We have been with Sky for 12 years and although it's probably a bit pricier the switch over was painless and their customer service has always been excellent.

rodentforce · 14/08/2019 12:06

2 days until completion, 3 days before moving ... it is getting to be a real struggle! It's 80% done but I'm panicking about the remaining 20%. Can't wait to get back to normality! How's everyone else doing?

Rumours0fAHurricane · 14/08/2019 12:12

Sounds like you're doing great @rodentforce . When exactly do you go from everything still out to basically everything packed and you're sat there surrounded by boxes?! Probably about now for you!

I'm still plodding along. Lazier day today but I have one tip run planned

@Rumours0fAHurricane Thanks for the positive words! After posting I did manage to pack up all our clothes (leaving just a few things out to last until Saturday) and ended up with a full bin bag of clothes, plus a box of stuff, for the charity shop - I was surprised because I'd done a clear out of our clothes quite recently! It does make me feel satisfied to think of how much stuff I've donated to charity - dozens of boxes and bags of stuff that would be cluttering up our new home if I'd taken the option to have people pack for us. It's really just the kitchen and the shed to do now ...

And as for your lazy-day-but-with-tip-run ... I know what you mean about feeling that some days you don't get as much done. But as I keep telling myself, it's all got to get done, and every step you make now is something you don't have to worry about later ...

I wonder if anyone else has this experience: looking around a room, thinking 'Yep, I've definitely done as much packing in here as I can, there's just furniture left now' but somehow still having the sense that there's more to do?! I think that every other move I've done has involved leaving the packing too late, and I don't know what to do with myself this time, having got most of it done without a big panic (or an all-nighter)! Maybe I'll aim for a last-minute panic on Saturday morning before the movers arrive, just to make myself feel that I've ticked all the boxes 😜

rodentforce · 16/08/2019 12:09

How's everyone doing? I completed today 😁😁😁😁😁 I have the keys and just waiting for the vendors to move out. I collected the keys from them directly and took them a bottle of champagne (since they got the dishwasher fixed when it started malfunctioning last week, they could easily have got away with just leaving it).

Finally sorted out the shed last night, which I'd been dreading because of all the spiders. It's pouring with rain now so looks like I used the last of the dry weather before moving!

Movers booked for tomorrow ... off to hire a Rug Doctor machine in a bit.

Oh well done rodent! You’ve done amazingly. How are you feeling? Exhausted?

Annoyingly this thread has fallen off my ‘threads im on’ ad I’ve had to come onto the actual website to find it. So frustrating. It’s just not on my app

All ok here. Another few boxes packed. I just clean my oven this weekend and we’ll, pack more. Totally identify with the ‘ there key be something else I can do’ feeling

We complete on the 30th so a fortnight to go. I’m so glad I started when I did!
