Just that really. Moving from a 3 bed to a 4 bed, both owned so I've no end of tenancy clean to worry about

Trying to organise myself but no idea where to start! Any ideas?

I can't use up most of my freezer stuff because I've cleaned the oven already so it is out of bounds! Should have thought it through but got too excited wanting to test out my new Koh cleaning stuff 😁

Btw here is a link for a £5 discount if anyone is thinking of using Koh share.koh.com/zpGs6

(Disclaimer: if you use it they will give me a £5 discount, although I think I've already got more discounts than I can ever use from friends buying it!)

I’m moving in a couple of weeks and haven’t started wahhh!!! I have very young children and finding it impossible to decided what to pack. Have just collected some boxes and had a clear out of clothes, old toys and books so that a start I suppose! Not sure what to pick that I won’t miss!!!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/08/2019 21:52

For those on a budget Lidl will be having vacuum bags in their sale from Sunday 18th August.

The day after I move! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

RhubarbTea · 09/08/2019 08:22

Hello movers,
Yesterday me and DS finished packing up the last of his room, he's at his Dad's every weekend so I'm glad that is done now. Todays plan is get more boxes (I love my local health food shop who have given me loads) and do some more packing of mugs, plates and food cupboard items, leaving out only those things I need in the next two days.
Had to open another sealed box yesterday as printer ran out of ink Grin
It's pissing with rain as well which makes carting boxes around tricky. I'm so excited for getting the keys to the new house.

Rumours0fAHurricane · 09/08/2019 17:35

Afternoon packers!

I've had a slightly less busy day today as think I've been getting ahead of myself!

Jobs completed ..

2 boxes packed

Building insurance sorted

Huge chest of drawers ordered for delivery on move in day

Another large bag of toys donated

@rhubarbtea and @rumoursofahurricane well done both - great progress! I've had an annoying day ... tried to transfer money for my deposit/stamp duty/etc to my solicitor ready for completion next week and the amount was too large to do online, and couldn't do it by phone either because I don't know my security details (they're packed!) so I had to traipse into town to do it in the branch. Other than that ... bought yet more vacuum bags and packed towels, bedding, jimjams, a couple more boxes downstairs, and I've got my kids doing their rooms 😁 They complained at first but have got into it now. I gave them a few boxes each and put a big plastic storage box between them so they could dump rubbish, recycling, and stuff to go to charity, so I'll have to go through that later and sort it, but still easier than packing their rooms myself. My boyfriend and a recently-moved friend have been on hand with a supply of boxes ... life is sooooo much easier without having to scrape around for packing materials! Relaxing with a cuppa now. Could probably fall asleep standing up at this stage.

Rumours0fAHurricane · 09/08/2019 20:13

@rodentforce god what a palaver for you! Sounds like you're going great guns though.

I know what you mean about falling asleep standing up. I'm a control freak so I have to do it all myself - and I've got this horrible habit of packing stuff that I want packed but that others may still need. It's not going down very well Grin

Packed another three boxes for the hell of it and we are doing yet another tip run tomorrow with a desk and ten bags.

OP posts:
rodentforce · 09/08/2019 20:30

@Rumoursofahurricane You could try Facebook Marketplace for things like the desk in future - I am having great success shifting stuff that was languishing on eBay! I'm finding that stuff posted for £5 or £10 goes fast. Then you could relax for 30 mins instead of doing a tip run 😁

RhubarbTea · 09/08/2019 21:00

I could also fall asleep standing up Grin I've had a really productive day though and am pretty much packed now, apart from a few odds and ends so will try and get a couple more boxes. It's amazing how many you need! I've worked oyt that is why last move was so horrible, I just didn't have enough boxes and was super stressed by it.

I am also packing to go camping shortly after we move, it's an important event and has been booked for a while, I'm so excited to go but trying to simultaneously move house AND gather together everything needed for 8 days of camping with one child and no car (all by train) is... quite tiring. Grin And my head's a bit full.
Hope everyone is kicking back with a glass of something now. You've earned it.

Rumours0fAHurricane · 09/08/2019 21:18

@rodentforce I've shifted loads of stuff on Facebook but for some reason the desk didn't go. No idea why as it's in perfect condition and I'm offering it for free. I've had enough of it hanging around now so alas, the tip it is for the damn thing.

5 weeks to go here, clearing and packing a little every weekend. Another 3 bags to the charity shop and 2 in the bin today. I’m using local bartering sites to shift stuff rather than selling as people more inclined to take it if it’s free. Have cleared out loads. DH in charge of the garage which is still a disaster zone! Hi removal quotes in this week - it’s not cheap!

rodentforce · 11/08/2019 10:09

Starting early and doing bits here and there is the secret, I'm finding! Had the kids so their rooms yesterday, which they actually enjoyed in the end. My bedroom, the kitchen, and everyone's clothes are the only things left. These are not small jobs, but I'm actually daring to think that I might get this done without a last-minute panic this time ...

Ria131518 · 11/08/2019 15:32

We moved on Friday and our removals firm decided to not show up nor call us to inform us. We had used them before and they were great. We tried to call them to chase nothing. We had confirmed via text/email/phone!?! They said our driver was running late?!? Luckily found a man and van and had to do it ourselves(plus amazing neighbours). It was an absolute nightmare and we were part of a chain so had to leave by 5pm! We had booked the removal firm for 2pm we completed our sale at 1.30. Then moved to the house we brought and the vendor left so much rubbish outside/inside of the house! We were so excited as this our first house and the last part really put a downer on it! But trying to be positive and get excited about making it a home. Good luck everyone moving is stressful but worth it!

rodentforce · 11/08/2019 16:19

Feeling sorry for myself ... spent 1.5 hour sorting and packing a large box in my bedroom. Then the tape on the bottom came unstuck while I was carrying it downstairs. Obv had to repack it, but it also contained a (full) glass jar of coconut oil so have had to clear broken glass from my belongings and from the hallway before the kids appeared ... and while I was doing it I snapped at my angelic DP who got up to give my kids breakfast this morning, brought me coffee in bed, and has spent hours and hours sorting my garden and is currently taking some of my crap to the tip. Think I'll treat him to a nice takeaway this evening 💖

rodentforce · 11/08/2019 16:21

@Ria131518 I'm so sorry to hear about that - what a nightmare! I'm completing the day before I move and hoping not to find the new place in a mess. I hope you're able to relax a bit now you're in ... bottle of wine among the boxes maybe!

RhubarbTea · 11/08/2019 16:55

Moving tomorrow, most of house packed. So. Tired...

Now off to defrost the freezer. Sorry to hear of those who have had moving related woes.

Rumours0fAHurricane · 11/08/2019 21:25

@Ria131518 what a bloody nightmare for you. At least you managed to move in the end and can shortly concentrate on your lovely new home. Congratulations!

Rumours0fAHurricane · 11/08/2019 21:27

@rodentforce I've been smashing stuff too. Opened up a cupboard and out fell my very expensive lamp. Smashed into smithereens on our very hard oak floor! Ugh so stressful

@RhubarbTea luckily I don't have to defrost my fridge freezer! Buyer wanted us to leave it (it's a free standing American style one) and we have no need for it in our new home so it's all theirs. All we need to do is empty it - and I'm slowly doing that

Rumours0fAHurricane · 11/08/2019 21:30

Busy day for me today

Another ten bags to the tip plus a desk and I 'think' that's us done re de-cluttering.

I filled three clear bags with more of my clothes that I won't wear over the next couple of weeks and I did a spot of cleaning - early I know but it was the skirting boards/ high up corners which will make it loads easier when we come to move out

OP posts:
Rumours0fAHurricane · 11/08/2019 21:31

Oh and we bought some stuff.

A sofa bed, a sofa for our kitchen/ diner space, a tv for said kitchen/diner, 2 bar stools, err that's it

FinallyHere · 11/08/2019 21:45

I feel I want to know what's what

Get the packers in and make sure they label the boxes (top and end, so you can see however they are stacked). You leave a label cello taped to the front of each drawer, shelf etc which they put on the boxes.

'S brilliant.

You just need to keep a few last minute things out, night clothes, spongebag, bedclothes and clothes for the next day.

Kettle, teabags and meal for first night in the car. Screw-topped bottle wine sorted.

Rumours0fAHurricane · 11/08/2019 22:43

@FinallyHere we've probably moved on a bit since page 1 Grin

About 2 weeks ago lol

rodentforce · 12/08/2019 07:25

@RhubarbTea GOOD LUCK TODAY!!!!!

@Rumours0fAHurricane So sorry to hear about your lamp! As if packing isn't hard enough ...

I feel like I've lost wind a bit. A couple of days ago was thinking 'oooh I'm almost done!' and that has caused me to relax too early (because actually I still have loads to do!). Going to steel myself today and get on with it so I don't have a last minute panic ...

After doing some work this morning - I have a big stress at work at the moment, which is completely the worst time for it 😔
