@Whattodowithaminute where is your table and chairs from please? We are looking for something similar, absolutely love your space!! I bet you love using it everyday. Cant wait until ours is finished

avocuddl · 23/03/2019 12:10

Amazing! Ours will be 5m x 7m so really useful to see a similar space being used, I just couldn't imagine it before!

Whattodowithaminute · 23/03/2019 12:33

mummyilovejokes1 the table is the John Lewis calia and the chairs are eames vitra dsr. It is such a lovely space and I feel so happy here... keep going it is worth it...!

soakedat3 · 23/03/2019 12:46

Oooh! I'd not thought of strip lighting before. Was it expensive @Whattodowithaminute? I really like the idea of it inside the velux too minipie.

Has anyone got/considered electronic roof velux windows? At the moment our plan seems to be that the cooker will be quite far from the window. We will have a ducted extractor but I wonder if I'll still need to easily open a window for say pasta?

We finally have the structural drawings so now can submit to planning and get more accurate quotes from builders. Woohoo! Another step closer towards the dream kitchen.

Mummyilovejokes1 · 23/03/2019 15:39

@Whattodowithaminute thank you, we were just in John Lewis and had a look. Its very nice, did you go for an extendable version or just one of the standard sizes?
The chairs look fab with it, great choice!

Is that a polished concrete floor?

Whattodowithaminute · 23/03/2019 17:58

Yes we have the extendable version and it happily accommodated extended family at Christmas-we are a family of 5 already so whenever we have guests the extension is very useful. Polished concrete flooring too-it’s lovely

nevermovinghouseagain56 · 23/03/2019 18:18

May I join in please?

I'm on the verge of buying a 2 bed terraced house and am considering adding an extension on the rear. However, I'm trying to work out how the builders would get a digger and machinery into the back garden as it is in the middle of a terraced row.

There is a footpath at the back of the houses which residents use to take the bins out to the road for collection but I'm not convinced that this would be wide enough to get any sort of machinery down.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of problem please?

Mummyilovejokes1 · 23/03/2019 19:07

It looks lovely, my dp spotted the floor straight away. We have talked about getting a polished concrete dining table top and then having the frame built to hold it. We love the look of the polished concrete.

Mummyilovejokes1 · 23/03/2019 19:12

@nevermovinghouseagain56 the builders can hire (unless they have their own) slim line equipment. Our builder needed to fit a small digger down the side of our house (950mm gap) he had to knock out our front door step but the digger was slim enough to fit. Measure the gap and go somewhere like a tool/plant hire and ask them what they have to accommodate the gap available?

nevermovinghouseagain56 · 23/03/2019 20:10

Thanks Mummy, that's useful to know.

ShakespearesSisters · 24/03/2019 09:14

We have an alleyway down the side of our house with only 87 cm clearance. When we did our garden we hired a micro digger. The tracks can extend out when in use. They'll need this again for foundations for our little extension. Was discussing it with the builder and he said as long as a wheelchair could get through the digger will. He bought one through someone's house once, floor properly protected of course.

Stokey · 24/03/2019 09:22

I love your room Whattodo, strip lighting around the doors looks fab.
We need to finalise floors in next two weeks. I love the polished concrete look but sadly it's a bit out of range so we're considering micro-screed or resin instead.
We have a digger in the garden now and they have started digging large trenches. Luckily they haven't hit any roots - we have a large Acacia tree near by that I was worried about.

I need to make a decision on outdoor paving too, & finalise kitchen layout.

Has anyone got one of the induction hobs with built in extractors rather than a down draft? Considering for our island hob but they're rather pricey.

MarthasGinYard · 24/03/2019 09:25

Place marking

Just at quotes stage for a two storey this thread is very informative

Myextensionisgivingmeaheadache · 24/03/2019 10:55

Love the lights! Trying to think where I could put some but our extension isn’t a kitchen extension. Will try and get some in the kitchen when it’s done eventually.

minipie · 24/03/2019 19:31

@soakedat3 yes we are having one skylight that opens (electric) and one that doesn’t. Extractors work best if there’s a bit of air coming in somewhere apparently so we thought it would be useful for that, plus we want to be able to let the heat out if we have another hot summer (south facing) quite worried about overheating actually! It’s not a Velux as we have a flat roof, it’s from a company called Roofmaker which I found recommended on MN.

minipie · 24/03/2019 19:33

I saw a fab strip LED along the side wall of a shower recently Myextension. Looked very neat, and almost gave the impression a tiny slot skylight was up there. I guess it would have to be a waterproof IP65 rated light fitting.

Myextensionisgivingmeaheadache · 24/03/2019 19:40

Inside the shower mini?

minipie · 24/03/2019 20:47

Yes! It was a walk in shower I think and it had the strip along the opposite side to the glass panel.

Myextensionisgivingmeaheadache · 24/03/2019 20:55

Really love the sound of that. Thanks for the suggestion.
A house for sale near us has an led wall which looked really cool. I’m assuming just strip lighting all around the outside.

minipie · 24/03/2019 22:10

looked like this pin.it/d65cf6t3c3abdc

soakedat3 · 24/03/2019 22:14

Thanks @minipie. I am going to ask the builder (when I get one!) to cost one in. Was it very expensive? I looked at one on Velux site and was about £600! We are having a bay window so would be able to walk over and open it but you know, laziness and all that Grin

minipie · 24/03/2019 22:20

Um yes it is quite expensive! But we were panicking about the heat as we planned the build last summer...

Rhica · 24/03/2019 22:33

There is a chance we can time the first week of the build with our holiday. For those that have started does this sound like a good idea ( so they can just get on without interruption) or a bad idea ( as we won't be there if anything goes wrong or to make decisions). Any advice appreciated

soakedat3 · 25/03/2019 12:29

@minipie, I think it's def a good idea to get one that opens as you are south facing. Our kitchen is north but or living room is south and even in Scotland it can get very hot. And with the sun coming in from the top I can imagine it would've been very hot inside. I am going to see if I can get one in. I have mentioned it to DH but not the cost just to put the idea in his head... Smile

Baxdream · 25/03/2019 13:44

Absolutely plan a holiday but when you knock through or right at the end. The beginning but isn't stressful
