@WorrisomeHeart looks great!! I need to do the planner! I picked up this paper planner from the showroom which is fun, you cut out all the units and play around with them on your paper to see what can go where. I'm hopeful for a pantry unit 🤞🏽

For info: pic 1 is Linwood dove grey and carbon,
Pic 2 is Malton light grey and carbon, pic 3 is Linwood cornflower blue and carbon

avocuddl · 21/03/2019 20:14

What do you mean by utility drying racks @soakedat3 ?

WorrisomeHeart · 21/03/2019 20:16

Oh yes utility drying racks and splash backs, I knew I was missing something. And a utility cupboard. So much money 😱

Mydressinggownismybestfriend · 21/03/2019 21:43

Plug socket placement! Help.

Not in kitchen, bedrooms etc

Yubaba · 21/03/2019 23:08

We’re at the start of designing our extension. We’re having a double storey side extension plus incorporating the existing detached garage and turning it into a usable room.
These are the plans from the architect, neither are right yet but I can’t decide how to change them.

Plug placements - Have you worked out what you need in your bedroom?

WorrisomeHeart · 22/03/2019 06:40

For our bedroom plugs my plan is one either side of the bed, then one on the wall by the door and probably one on a wall by the walk in wardrobe. Also at least one in the WIW and one on the top of the loft stairs. I still haven’t figured out where I will dry my hair - possibly in the bedroom but I don’t want to have to have the dryer on show or have to move it every day. It’s funny how having this work done has made me examine our life in the minutest of details.

Baxdream · 22/03/2019 08:18

Hi all, we completed our extension a year ago (distant memory!).

Avocuddle Our kitchen is all navy . We initially were going to have two tone. I definitely don't regret it all being dark.

As for plug sockets, we put loads everywhere and I absolutely recommend it! My hairdryer is in our dressing room and the plug sockets are directly inline with a shelf unit so hidden away

Yubaba · 22/03/2019 09:14

We had a rewrire 7 years ago and we had loads of extra sockets fitted, more than you think you will need. We have 4 double sockets in our room, one either side of the bed and 2 next to my dressing table. It means that I don’t have to keep unplugging things when I want to hoover the room or plug a fan in when it’s hot at night.

Hoppahouse · 22/03/2019 11:55

I'm having a bit of a stress about the extension lighting. Plastering is starting tomorrow and I'm having a wobble about the pendants over the dining table. I'm definitely happy with the pendants over the island, but an worrying about the the dining table moving and being left with three hanging lights or them being in the wrong place to where the dining table ends up 🤷‍♀️

Photo shows the dining table area and the drops for three pendants. Changing these to downlighters now is apparently a bit of a problem. Could possibly remove the two outer ones and just have the one in the middle? Not sure what to do 🙈

What about a pendant bar that has one single wire to a line of lights? I am having the same concern and was contemplating this as a solution. Something like the attached pic

In other news, our second structural engineer quote has come in at an eye watering £2100. Quite a long way from the £1-1500 estimate our architect gave us. Le sigh.

Hoppahouse · 22/03/2019 13:10

Thanks Worri - I was starting think this could be an option, but I guess it still leaves me with the problem if the table is moved 😬
There are going to be three downlights in the dining area, but will that be enough? I could solve the lighting issue with lamps?
So much stress over the little things don't even get me started on the doors 🙈😭

soakedat3 · 22/03/2019 14:30

@Hoppahouse - I think 3 lights is a nicer look than just 1 and even with just one, if you move the table it might still look odd :( Realistically is there an alternative place for the table?

@avocuddl - One of the reasons we are extending the utility is that DH is fed up of laundry in his office LOL! He says it can't be good for the electronics. Anyway, by utility drying racks I mean wall hung racks to dry washing. I am thinking of the Ikea Algot ones but don't know if I'll have the space. At the moment I have an empty space in the plan just left for it but may need to re think as one builder has said it could be cheaper to leave a section of wall rather than put in steels. Sadly, saving on a steel support trumps wall drying area. :(

minipie · 22/03/2019 14:48

Hi all, I’ve dipped into these threads occasionally but not posted much. We are 5 months in to a whole house extend and refurb (turns out to be more of a rebuild...) not going to be finished till July and I’m getting decision fatigue! Will see if I can post some pics

@Hoppahouse we have the same problem re possibly moving dining table, plus we have a skylight in the dining area to contend with. I’m just having downlighters (single pendant over the island). I might get a big arc floor lamp if we decide we want more of a feature light for the dining table. Another option is to get a single pendant lamp with extra long cable and then if the table moves you have the option to put a ceiling hook in the new location and rehang the lamp over there. What’s the name of the worktop you like by the way - I really like it too?

Hoppahouse · 22/03/2019 14:52

Thanks Soaked - you're right. The dining table will definitely go in that place.
The pendants I've got are just the bulb ones as I planned to have bigger ones for the island.
Do you think I should beg the builder to move them a bit closer or they'll be ok as they are? 😬
Thank you!

Current back of the house with new steel but no extension roof yet. And new dormer at the top (since been roofed and boarded)

Wow! That looks amazing!

WorrisomeHeart · 22/03/2019 15:23

Oh crap, I forgot about skylight placement impacting lights. Dammit. This is why I need to give up my full time job to do this instead. 😂

soakedat3 · 22/03/2019 16:39

Pants! I also forgot about skylights! Back to the planning diagram.

Whattodowithaminute · 22/03/2019 21:15

On the lighting front we’ve had real success with some LED strip lighting. We hardly use anything else (island and dining table pendants) in the evenings. We have it over our doors to the garden and along the length of the big steel. See pic

avocuddl · 22/03/2019 21:26

Wow @Whattodowithaminute that looks amazing! What are the dimensions of the room? 100% adding those lights to my list!!

minipie · 22/03/2019 21:29

That’s clever Whattodo. We’re having an LED strip round the inside of our skylight, am hoping that will have a similar effect of casting a gentle glow in the evenings.

Whattodowithaminute · 22/03/2019 21:33

Thanks both, it’s a little over 7m by 7m avocuddl
minipie I think it will look really good around a sky light.
