.... and not some 45 old wally still living with mother and bitter because he spent all his money on model trains instead of a down-payment back in 1998?

Not a good cross section on there at all.

Is it going to crash do you think? Please give me your opinions. As far as I can see it's a 50/50 split on the nation's opinion but I would like to see how similar people to myself (parents with small children) think.

LOL anniemac - I must admit I didn't expect an interogation about our plans for loft conversion. Most people glaze over when you mention it....

Aloha · 11/05/2007 16:41

I LOVE talking about loft conversions

SoapOnARope · 11/05/2007 16:42

there has been lots of trouble on that site.

members being banned if they dared say a crash ain't going to happen. there was a flurry of bad postings on Amazon about it.

they're quite aggressive too.

OrmIrian · 11/05/2007 16:42

Oh feck! Mad women on the loose!!!!!

Aloha · 11/05/2007 16:44

Aloha/Annie I am considering doing some work on our loft however I don't think there is enough roof height to make it into a proper room and the downstairs is open plan so again regulations an issue.......

however a fixed staircase could go inbetween the 2 large rooms (3rd bedroom already a good sized single) with a fire door at the bottome I can stand up in a third of a loft so it would be fine for a playroom/temp bedroom. We cannot afford to move, we are saving up to do the work not increasing debt. My POV is that if we ever sell the house the fact that is won't have added value doesn't matter as we'll have had the use of it for at least 15 years - opinions???

DaddyCool · 11/05/2007 16:54

they're extremely aggressive.

i recognise the type of talk a mile away. balding men in their forties who live with mum and never miss an episode of star trek - deep space nine.

I love looking at other peoples houses. Later tonight I shall sit down with a g&t and the property pages ...how sad it that? It's just mine that leaves me cold. Well I feel I've cleaned, painted and tidied it too many times to enjoy looking at it.

OI - I love property porn too. The Foxton catalogue is the best.

CarGirl · 11/05/2007 17:02

but if I only want to "board out my loft" and not use it as a bedroom surely I do not have to meet building regs as such?

OrmIrian · 11/05/2007 17:03

I only bother with the prestige pages - we have an estate agents round here called Greenslades where the posh people put their houses. Things I could never afford. 6 beds, a stable block and servants quarters Sometimes they sell 'ordinary' houses and they always look so out of place.

Cargirl - I think building regs will apply unless you are just using it for storage. You will need fire doors on all the bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen.

We are just about to have our loft done so am presently obessed with lofts .

CarGirl · 11/05/2007 17:14

Ok so whilst we live in the house we do what we like and when we sell it is just a loft for storage - that is fine with us. We will put on the fire doors etc but can't stop the downstairs being open plan - house too small.

Aloha · 11/05/2007 17:14

Yup, we're really, really near Goodrich! House is only two storeys doesn't look big at all from the outside. Actually some houses that look identical from the outside only have two bedrooms, but ours is very deep because it used to be two flats. We had the big bathroom built out of thin air on top of the back extension, so not carved out of the loft space at all. But it looks completely as if it has been there forever. We didn't need to upgrade our combi boiler but we did have get £200 worth of electrical work done to accommodate the extra electrics.

Are you a property developer?

Aloha · 11/05/2007 17:15

I would qute like to extend the house into side return but have run out of money!

NotanOtter · 11/05/2007 17:56
