Do you 'air' your house every morning?

Please help settle an ongoing dispute between me and DH! I admit I'm a bit obsessive about it but I really like to open the windows in the morning before work! Especially bathrooms after showers, bedrooms and the kitchen. My husband thinks I'm insane. He says he doesn't have time to open and close a window. Every winter we have the same disagreement every single morning. I used to just do it myself, but with 2 young DC to get ready we need team work in the mornings! Should add we live in a radon area if that makes a difference...

Not everyday. I often have a bedroom window open or kitchen if I'm in it but not usually specifically run around to air unless I'm properly cleaning (say once a fortnight!). I'd probably see it as a bit obsessive, but no real problem!

teaiseverything · 15/03/2018 18:14

I have the windows open all day (I'm at home all day). Feel like it's very stuffy otherwise.

ItchySeveredFoot · 15/03/2018 18:14

I always open the dc's bedroom window for a while. Our bedroom window is usually open all night anyway.

PinkHeart5914 · 15/03/2018 18:15

The bedrooms yes

MimsyBorogroves · 15/03/2018 18:15

If I'm at home for the day, yes. Otherwise no - no time to do so. We are out of the house from 7.30.

greendale17 · 15/03/2018 18:15

No

Bodgernbadger · 15/03/2018 18:15

Yes everyday, all windows open for at least half an hour to an hour even in sub zero, can’t stand stuffy smelly houses
Even leave the upstairs windows on the latches all day long, if it’s particularly cold just the bathroom windows on latches,

Astrid2 · 15/03/2018 18:15

If I'm at home I will air out the rooms as I clean but if I'm going to work I wouldn't bother! Who's there to enjoy it!

OutyMcOutface · 15/03/2018 18:16

I do it as often as possible but it’s difficult with two climb out the window and die aged children.

WhyBeDennyDifferent · 15/03/2018 18:16

I love to have my windows open! The bedroom gets a sleepy man smell in it otherwise.

I’ve learnt not to expect or to tell DH about doing this as he is like your DH. I just do it when he’s not around.

Showergel1 · 15/03/2018 18:16

Not religiously every morning but I do like to air the house as much as possible. Usually leave the back door open when I'm in from March to September. Means the cats can come and go as they please as well.

littlepill · 15/03/2018 18:16

Yes, I try to go this if there is time! If not in the week, certainly at weekends. It’s lovely to let the air in and breeeeaathe!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 15/03/2018 18:16

Bedroom windows open all night all year round anyway. But from early spring to late autumn one of the first things I do when I get downstairs is to open the back door for a bit

soundsystem · 15/03/2018 18:16

Yep, I open all the bedroom windows before I go for a shower, and close them all again when I get out. Turn all the beds down first so they get a bit of an airing too.

Kismett · 15/03/2018 18:16

No, we almost never open the windows because of allergies.

JessyJames · 15/03/2018 18:18

No we don't. We spend a lot of money heating the house, so I don't want to let the heat out every day.

I do open them once the weather is warmer.

Kalinka16 · 15/03/2018 18:18

We have vents on all windows, and I open our bedroom one every morning even in depths of winter. DH usually comes along after me to shut them... in other seasons we have most vents open all the time.

scaredofthecity · 15/03/2018 18:22

When I remember.

Surely those of you that don't get damp and the dreaded black mould?

Kismett · 15/03/2018 18:25

Scared we haven’t had any damp or mould issues in either this house or the last, both of which are fairly modern builds.

Faintlinesquints · 15/03/2018 18:27

climb out of the window and die aged children 😂

I don't do it every day, no. Although I do always leave the back door open in the morning (if it's not raining)

Pibplob · 15/03/2018 18:27

Yes I do most mornings. My husband doesn’t like it but I read that by airing your house every day helps to avoid illnesses. I expect it’s a coincidence but we have been healthy all winter so far. (I expect we will now be hit by a bug!😂)

Thistlebelle · 15/03/2018 18:29

No never.

The bedroom windows are never/very rarely opened either.

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 15/03/2018 18:29

Yep, open windows every day. My Dh doesn't like it either. Houses do smell if not aired.

onlyconnect · 15/03/2018 18:30

I open our bedroom window every morning whatever the weather even if only for 5 mins. I find that thick air you get after people have slept in a room quite revolting.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 15/03/2018 18:31

Every morning? No - if I'm working that day (7 day a week job so not always the same days) I leave at 5:30am.

I do open windows a lot though.
