Yay whisky great news.

I too am envious of your utility room rick!

hide glad you've found something you like that's cheaper!!

So our chimney breasts are staying in, it's too much bloody hassle to take them out. So I will have a chimney breast in DDs bedroom and the play room. Any ideas on what we can do to make a feature out of them... I've been on Pinterest but still lacking inspiration!!

whiskyowl · 22/11/2017 11:04

extension - this is such an obvious idea I can't really believe I'm tying it, but what about putting a fireplace in there? It wouldn't necessarily have to work to look nice.

I'm boxing my dining room fireplace in with a run of shelves that will go across both the chimney breast and the two alcoves either side. There will be narrow shelves where the breast is for CDs, and deeper shelves in the alcoves for all the household filing, the hifi separates, a cocktail cabinet, and the DVDs. All with matching doors on the front so it looks neat, hopefully like in the picture.

whisky we’ve got some windows going in today too! Must be the day for it!

Fourmagpies · 22/11/2017 13:25

Hooray to windows whisky and tatlerer !!

We have ordered the most beautiful sink which I am going to be too scared to use. It arrived this morning! It is lovely. The photo doesn't do it justice, I'll take one when it is fitted. I need to put a fence around its box so the kids can't stand on it and break the bloody thing.

I love really square sinks fourmagpies. That's a beaut! I'm getting a huge one, which DH has christened "the cattletrough".

They are making one hell of a mess of my bedroom fitting this new window. There's plaster everywhere. It's going to take some patching up. Confused

Whattodowithaminute · 22/11/2017 13:41

whisky and tatlerer yippee to windows going in! four I’m appreciating your sink, rick great utility.
Spent the last couple of hours researching sliding doors, realised I have not a clue... thought I was set on schuco then found panoramic stacking ones. Lots of quote requests I’m sure will soon help make my mind up! Builder has said should be able to start in a couple of weeks so hopefully will be able to join you all properly soon!

DustandRubble · 22/11/2017 17:27

We have the box frame in! It just needs some final bolting in to place. It is a beast of a thing going across the whole house. 1000kg according to the builder, which seems slightly unbelievable but there we have it.

Still a bit more steel to go in, but that was the main and most complicated bit. They’ve already got the chimney breast steel in. We are moving back in again on Friday, I shall miss having the dishwasher but the kids are starting to get a bit glum. Once this is done it is full speed on doing the floor and getting the kitchen in on the internal bit, and starting the foundations for the external bit.

DustandRubble · 22/11/2017 17:48

extension there are some chimney breast ideas here: www.idealhome.co.uk/news/clever-designs-for-alcoves-91177

I like the idea of building in shelves and a desk in a bedroom. We are using the seating idea for our kitchen chimney alcove.

TeamRick · 22/11/2017 18:26

Da da da!

Kitchen progress pictures from me!

I never thought I'd get here!

Whisky hooray for your windows!

Kitchen! Yay!

Baxdream · 22/11/2017 19:07

Love seeing the progress pictures! Kitchen looks gorgeous Rick!
Windows going in is very exciting whisky!

We've had a busy week but it doesn't look as exciting! Our bedroom is fully plastered and downstairs is plasterboarded. First fix electrics are done.
Apparently the kitchen will start to go in next week 😱
We've ordered most things now, we've started getting blasé about things now as we've made so many decisions!!

whiskyowl · 23/11/2017 07:48

rick - It's coming on beautifully. And quickly. What a contrast!

Bax - brilliant progress! You're cooking on gas!

Dust - Wow, that's a landmark moment. And a tonne (literally) of steel.

Knock-through has started here. I'm warming up my hoovering muscles.

Baxdream · 23/11/2017 08:05

Just tried to take photos but it's not as easy to show progress! This is our room and the snug

whiskyowl · 23/11/2017 09:19

I love your idea of a snug bax . What will you put in there?

glorious · 23/11/2017 09:55

Yay whisky windows! And Rick the kitchen looks great.

Our loft is taking shape now and survived the high winds last night. I'm about to order floor tiles and lights for our kitchen. The survey was done for the big glass doors yesterday. Woohoo!

Baxdream · 23/11/2017 11:45

Whisky it is having a small corner sofa and a tv. It's 2 metres wide and about 4 long. It's so cute and the builders have done a funky little entrance too.

whiskyowl · 23/11/2017 11:55

Grin Oooh, the entrance - is that the narrower doorway? What a lovely idea.

I've always wanted a padded room.

That sounds wrong.

I mean, I've always wanted a kind of snug that I could fill with soft things and just lie around in, and wherever I was, I would be comfy!! Grin

I am currently engaged in protracted negotiations with a guy on ebay over some second-hand built-in shelves. The more messages go by, the more I think he's a massive conman! Am about to walk away... Grin

Believeitornot · 23/11/2017 13:39

Loving the progress!! A snug sounds lovely @Baxdream. Do you have a colour scheme planned?
@TeamRick, exciting! Kitchen! Remind me, where’s yours from?

Our worktops have been templated so need to pay over a big chunk of ££ for production to start. Exciting!

I need to buy some radiators. Keep putting it off 😬 indecision 😬

Baxdream · 23/11/2017 16:07

The doorway is now to the left almost behind the stairs. We mainly did it as the snug was a bit long!
We plan to paint it dark blue 😱 but we want it to feel small and cosy. The sofa is dark grey and it'll be carpeted. Again a deep pile. We were so close to not having it!

Slow day here today.

TeamRick · 23/11/2017 19:36

Bax your snug sounds lovely, very jealous!

Believe DIY kitchens!

I have Worktops! 😄

Titsywoo · 23/11/2017 20:58

We've got a kitchen from DIT Kitchens too Rick. It's 2 years old and still as good as new - such good quality for a really great price. I'm going to buy kitchen cabinets from them for our utility room soon!

So near the end here. Almost definitely the end of next week. The tiles are nearly all on the roof, the doors are on in the loft conversion, the skirting is going on, the door for the eaves has been made, bathroom is being tiled this weekend, plasterer here tomorrow to do the hallway, plumber here to finish the heating system. Phew! I'm kind of dreading them going because then we have to clear up all the bloody dust!

whiskyowl · 24/11/2017 08:52

It's so lovely to see your progress. The way things go from a shell to being beautiful and furnished so quickly is encouraging.

I am hoping for a second delivery of windows today - seems a bit uncertain whether it will be immediately or Monday. I have a big 3 metre rooflight to go in - it's an 8 man job to lift it. I can't wait to see what the light levels are once it's up, because I'd really like to feel certain that my oak and charcoal kitchen isn't going to feel like some awful dark hole. I normally go for everything white and light so I am really nervous about it, to the point that I really feel like crying.

Believeitornot · 24/11/2017 09:05

We’ve got the plumber and soundproofers in at the moment so pretty noisy! Utility room has been gutted now and the plumber is rerouting pipes etc for the new radiator.

@TeamRick I thought you were going DIY, couldn’t remember. I’m pleased with ours albeit I haven’t actually used it yet.

@whiskyowl it’ll be ok! I had serious doubts before we had the sliding doors in about not having velux windows but now it’s all painted, it’s going to be fine. Just remind yourself why you made the choices.

Titsywoo · 24/11/2017 14:01

Oh god. Builders finish next Friday and DH has booked a decorator to start on the Monday. I haven't even begun to think about colours, paint, wallpaper etc. And it always take me ages to decide. Grr, like I don't have enough to do at the moment!
