Selling in Silicon Valley - Want to come along for the wild ride?

I'm prepping my house for sale in Silicon Valley, California - just south of San Francisco. The property market is completely insane. It is astonishing who can actually pay these prices - especially when you realize that most purchases are cash. That's right, cash. With no contingencies and no chain.

Will be chronicling the madness of this sale here. I will then be purchasing a smaller (cheaper we hope) property nearer to SF. They say 'good luck with that. Feel free to join in, or simply ignore. Should be very interesting.

Hi SoFarSoGood, I've just read all your threads - the safe cracking ones and this one. Delighted you found a lovely new home and you're so close to moving in. What stood out was your whirlwind romance followed by nearly 40 years of marriage and your DH still giving you the fanny gallops. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic 2018 in your new home.

Thank you Ballyhoo!

Yes. Still does it for me. I am so very lucky. Counting my blessings.

Merry Christmas to you and yours 💐

Well here we are in the last day of 2017 and tomorrow we get our keys to the new house. At noon. Happy new year, new start, New commute, New life.

Thanks to all of you for the guidance, patience and shared excitement.

Shall post pictures once new (and old) furniture arrives.

Blessed 2018 to one and all 💖

@BoreOfWhabylon and anyone else still interested:

WE ARE IN. We camped slept in our new home last night. It was amazing. Just as lovely, nay, more lovely than we thought. So many delights. So many light switches, and every one appears to do the total opposite of what you would imagine, but hey. Let there be light. Had complained they left their washer & dryer for us to get rid of, but had to use it last night to wash new sheets (the 'camping' bedding box apparently got lost somehow) and man, it is amazing. Now I'm thinking I keep theirs and donate mine. We'll have to do a side by side test :)

Deliveries have begun. Big movers move our (two giant) storage unit stuff Friday. New living room and family room furniture comes Saturday; for now we have only rug and lamp. I have ordered the most delicious velvet fainting couch and feathery light fixture for my dressing room. It is so very exciting. However, one issue has arisen. Not one of the many marvelous built in closets will hold my (longish) dresses. What is that about? I am going to have to redo at least one. Or start wearing minis :)

Daisy is delighted with her new domain. Here she is spotting the great outdoors. With great interest indeed!

Am paralysed with envy re dressing room with velvet fainting couch!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 03/01/2018 20:57

And to you too my friend.

I'm thinking next Italy trip I have someone make me a beautiful house name in tile with just that. DH may be a bit askance but that's his problem

May the woo be with you!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/01/2018 20:58

In the nicest possible way - I want your life! Grin

AlbusPercival · 03/01/2018 21:05

Tmysub

2018SoFarSoGreat · 03/01/2018 21:11

not sure what Tmysub means, Albus

Oh I reread that post and it sounded awfully pretentious. Sorry. Perhaps that why you commented?

Re dressing room: It is in life only a very small third bedroom that I have claimed as my own, and shall make mine because I have so much &(W#$ it needs to be corralled somehow. Calling it my dressing room is just my way of saying MINE. Not DH's or the spare room.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/01/2018 21:54

Didn't sound pretentious to me 2018

Afraid Albus is being too cryptic for me too.

Hey ho and, indeed, Hingy Hangy

AlbusPercival · 04/01/2018 21:08

Shit sorry! Was DS that commented not me. He's 14 months so suspect was mashing keys rather than secret meaning.

I hope you are very happy in your new home

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/01/2018 21:27

Grin Albus
I was frantically googling and came up with nothing! Grin

2018SoFarSoGreat · 04/01/2018 23:03

oh Albus that is funny. He did make me think, and think. Woke up this morning (after very sleepless night caused by earthquake which made a hell of a kerfuffle with the shutters/cat/dh etc.) and determined that it meant: Try Moving Your Sub - and I thought: Yes. Clever Albus. I shall do that. But to where?

Ha. Thank you DS for a fun brain workout. And the well wishes :)

AlbusPercival · 05/01/2018 06:27

Hahaha yes you should definitely move your sub

He has form for this. He posted a series of emojis as a Facebook status my MIL apparently spent several hours trying to decipher Grin

Congratulations 2018 . I hope you're safe and well in your new home. How long will Daisy be kept indoors? Or does she not go out anyway?
In UK, cats are allowed out 24/7. I believe that in Australia they have to be kept in overnight. What are your cat laws please?

officerhinrika · 12/01/2018 00:14

Congratulations 2018! I’ve lurked all along and really enjoyed seeing the different houses you’ve considered. Hope you’ll be very happy in the new place.
There may be some real estate agents with an over optimistic view of how much interest is out there now though due to all the Mumsnet click through.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 12/01/2018 15:54

Thank you Toldmy and Officer. We are totally in love with our new home. It is marvelous. One thing I'm taking bad with is the number of cars - our small cul-de-sac seems to have hundreds for the few houses. Not intrusive since everyone has ample driveways, just different. At the old house if one car parked outside it was notable. Urban v suburban!

Daisy is the happiest cat in the world. What a trooper she is. Weathered the move, the hotel, three weeks in the cat hotel and now the final move. We were prepared for her to need contained until she was comfortable. Hah. She immediately found all the comfy spots, where the greatest views outdoors are and which of the beds has the highest quality linens 😝

She is an indoor cat. The law allows for outdoor, but with traffic and possible predators like coyote, we have opted to keep her in. She has never been out so does not miss it. There are lots of spots for her to hide or claim so she is queen. Loves the new high back dining chairs to perch above our heads as we eat.

DGS'S coming for a sleepover tomorrow. First time and pretty exciting. 7 year old is desperate to use the spa. We have not braved it yet, but our poor muscles wood thank us. We shall see. Shall post some pictures over the weekend.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 12/01/2018 15:59

Our muscles do feel like wood but I believe they would actually appreciate a spa 😳

toldmywrath · 13/01/2018 11:28

Daisy sounds like a really contented cat. Not sure I'd let mine out if there was coyote around. We have to beware of hungry urban foxes but they don't usually trouble fit and healthy cats.

Please make sure that your spa is serviced/cleaned before using it. I might have mentioned that my nephew is a pool engineer and has some grim stories to tell.

Your commute has been reduced and gives you more time to enjoy your lovely new home.

Ah, how lovely to have grandchildren. We've not got any, doesn't look likely we'll be blessed with them either. But you never know.
