Assuming all you lovely people in a chain still need a support group? Here it is......

Well, we still have a buyer which is a surprise!

9th month here too.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 04/05/2017 10:00

Even though we are first time buyers we will hopefully be moved within 5 months from when we made our offer. I thought it would be quicker and if it goes any further beyond I will cry. I was on a diet losing weight well but it's so stressful I'm drinking lots and then snacking loads Sad

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 04/05/2017 10:37

I'm so stressed!! We didn't exchange yesterday, there's a bit of a fight over completion dates, top of the chain needs a few weeks, but the bottom of the chain are in rented and need to be out in a week and both are threatening to pull out if they don't get their way....

Feels like it's all going to fall apart Confused

StripyBlanket · 04/05/2017 11:25

I feel so sorry for you all and also petrified we are going to be in the same situation in 9 months time.

beautician why has yours taken so long?

And any pointers for us at the beginning of the process?

DoristheNovice · 04/05/2017 11:35

Oh MaryPoppins that's so stressful you poor thing!

After my little rant on here yesterday I decided to fire off an email to our EA telling them to get a rocket up their arse and start chasing everyone and everything. Turns out we're further along than we thought, at the enquiries stage! Why haven't they let us know for heavens sake? They promised us at the start of this process that as soon as they had any news/progress we'd get an update but that clearly isn't the case.

DoristheNovice · 04/05/2017 11:36

I also feel like a fraud because so many of you are into your 9th month of this shit... I don't know how you've kept going to be honest. Never again!

upperlimit · 04/05/2017 16:54

Right, well the moving date of the 12th is no longer do-able and the next possible moving date is a fortnight later. Oh well. It's not like I was excited or anything.

Shadowboy · 04/05/2017 20:53

Good news here. We finally exchanged today! We complete a week today. I hope everyone else's chains start progressing now!!

ACatCalledFang · 04/05/2017 21:12

Shadowboy, that's great news! Fingers crossed for the rest of us.

Our FTBs are being quite irritating - they had their survey done just after Easter but it has revealed a few problems, including the roof, so they're now getting a series of people (mainly roofers) round (one of whom has failed to turn up twice which isn't annoying at all Angry). I assume they're building up to negotiating on price but am really worried they might pull out.

Ironically, they want to move in in June (which would suit the rest of the chain), but are refusing to instruct their solicitor to start work until their post-survey enquiries are complete....even our solicitor, who is very fast at responding to stuff, has expressed scepticism about whether a leasehold transaction can be completed in four weeks.

Bluebell9 · 05/05/2017 08:47

I'm still here too. Still aiming for the 26th May for exchange and completion. I hate that we have to do it all on the same day, but apparently as my vendors are doing their own conveyancing, it can't be done any other way. 3 weeks today I should have my new house!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 05/05/2017 09:25

I'm crossing everything that we exchange today... if we don't it's basically over as our buyers will pull out.

upperlimit · 05/05/2017 09:32

That's high stakes Mary, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

It looks like we are now moving on the 26th too Bluebell.

Less gutted today. The delay isn't so terrible. It lands at the beginning of half term for us so the kids can spend a week getting comfortable in the new house, check out the local area and then start at a new school at a more natural point. Might have to retrieve some toys and books out of storage though Blush

CampervanLady · 05/05/2017 10:38

Expecting no news or anything at all until mid next week

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 05/05/2017 14:56

We exchanged....! The relief 🎉

Bluebell9 · 05/05/2017 15:28

Yay Mary thats great. When are you completing?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 05/05/2017 17:25

Two weeks today... I can't wait! Now to pack Grin

ocelot41 · 05/05/2017 17:37

Yay Mary, you give me hope!!!

ocelot41 · 05/05/2017 17:52

Hi camper, what are you expecting to hear next week? We are expecting: the ftbs' structural survey and their searches back in a week or so. I can't believe what a long slow trudge this is - and there is no guarantee its not a long road to nowhere (again). Glad I am away at a work conference next week so will be distracted. Should help to pass time!

CampervanLady · 05/05/2017 19:42

Yay congrats Mary

oce we are waiting for 1 piece of paper that proves a warranty on something daft. I say "daft" because the whole house is under warranty for 8 more years Grin

The good news! Yes we have good news. A shock isn't it? Our buyers are really really excited and we have proof that they are ready to pounce on exchange when it's ready. And hopefully we can exchange late next week pending this 1 document. Their new solicitor is properly on it! Wish they had him from the start. He's awesome and I think I'm falling in love with his efficiency and reliability

ocelot41 · 05/05/2017 20:10

Oh I am SO pleased for you Camper. God knows, you deserve some good news! I really have my fingers crossed for you. I don't think we will be over the finishing line until the end of May earliest. I am just exhausted by now. But you give me faith!

StripyBlanket · 05/05/2017 20:21

Good luck camper

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 05/05/2017 20:55

camper just popped back to says I've got everything crossed for you (and ocelot)!
Gin

Iamcheeseman · 05/05/2017 20:56

Yahoo- lots of good news

Well done shadowboy and mary
Great news camper and good luck for that document!
Bluebell exchange and completion on the same day sounds terrifying but if it's the only way it's better than nothing! Why are they doing it themselves?
ACat That seems mad. Why would anyone not instruct solicitors straight away unless serious?
Stripy My advice to anyone at the start would be get going on everything. Some people like to wait for survey/mortgage/searches ad get them done one after another. If you are somewhere like Dorset that takes forever to turn around searches it's a right pain. And keep in regular contact with your solicitor and EA for updates. You might feel like you are annoying them but you are paying a lot of money for their services!

The EA of the house we are buying is sooo good. The one we are selling with is fine, she will update me if I ask her but it always seems like effort. The one we are buying from calls me every week without fail to update me on everyone else in the chain having called their solicitors and EAs. Good news this end is that the 7 weeks Dorset searches are now in :-) yipee. So the whole chain is on the enquiry stage. Bottom of the chain (who are the furthest behind) think they should be ready to exchange in 2 weeks (fingers crossed). So I had 2 movers round to give me quotes-eek. Both were around £900 for a 3 bed semi moving 60 miles. Does that sound right to the rest of you?

ocelot41 · 05/05/2017 22:07

Great news cheeseman!

ACatCalledFang · 05/05/2017 22:15

That sounds cheaper than we've been quoted, cheeseman. Verbal quotes have been £850 for a two-bed flat moving about 30 miles away; the only one who has been round to look at how much stuff we have quoted £1500! That includes about £200 for packing, we have a LOT of books, and are moving from London to Home Counties.

As to our buyers, I eventually managed to get through to our estate agent today, who was not amused by them having refused to instruct their solicitor to start work until they've completed their post-survey enquiries, especially as we are almost two months on from accepting their offer. 2.5 weeks post-survey and they can't even seem to get a written quote for the roof stuff. So think a few rockets may be going up arses on Monday morning (fingers crossed) Grin.
