Things you would NEVER want in your house:

I'll start.

A kitchen island.
A hall console table.
A corner sofa.
New rugs.

I am thinking of getting a plumbed-in Miele coffee machine.

I am more about things being practical if I have a choice over beautiful but full of hassle versus practical but bland.

Lazy cow.

LittleBairn · 29/03/2015 09:33

A vase with sticks in it.

wowfudge · 29/03/2015 09:37

To the person upthread who asked about the tiled bath panel and surround - it's this kind of thing I hate: where there's a lip of tiling around the top edges of the bath and a tiled bath panel. Tiles on the wall above the bath are a bloody good idea.

PVC front doors- can't bear them. Hideous, naff, tasteless things.

Hyacinths- the smell makes me go light headed and faint.

haggardoldwitch · 29/03/2015 09:38

Solar Panels
Plastic Windows
Leather sofa
No separate shower
Bathroom without a window
Noisy neighbours

Openup41 · 29/03/2015 09:52

UPVC front door - looks cheap.
Bathroom without window - ewwww!
Laminate flooring
Anything with Union Jack on
TV mounted on wall
Ornaments of any kind
Clutter of any kind
All pink walls for girl's room (have seen some horrors when viewing properties online)
Bathroom cleaners on display
Gnomes or other garden display

AryaUnderfoot · 29/03/2015 09:56

Farrow and Ball paint

DarylDixonsDarlin · 29/03/2015 09:56

Yy alittleegg, deep fat fryers! Shock near the washing <
faints>

contemplates getting one for outside use only, since homemade chips are truly the best

Openup41 · 29/03/2015 10:00

Some more;
A ridiculously tiny drive where the car practically sits directly in front of the living room window - awful.

No front garden aka Coronation St houses.

Front doors that lead straight into the living room.

Homes that that look as though they have jumped right out of Next Homes catalogue

Random pictures trying to pass as art

AryaUnderfoot · 29/03/2015 10:07

The OP.

What a horrible thread this is.

RulerLenska · 29/03/2015 10:08

Why don't people want "new rugs". Confused about this. Please explain.

DailyFailSideBarOfShame · 29/03/2015 10:15

Why on earth could you not tolerate Farrow and Ball paint, unless it's purely a protest vote purely motivated by inverse snobbery? What's to dislike about it? It's very good quality paint. Confused

Unless you just hate the colour choices?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/03/2015 10:18

"What a horrible thread this is."

I don't think so. It's interesting hearing about other people's tastes and thoughts. I have half the stuff mentioned because it suits me, and I'm very confident in my choice! I don't feel "got at" at all. [shrugs]

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/03/2015 10:19

And I certainly wouldn't buy something for my house that most people thought tasteful just for that reason, if it didn't fit in with my needs.

bodingading · 29/03/2015 10:23

I love my woodburner. I just hoover it once a week or so. And the woodsman stacks the logs for me, twice a year, for a tenner. It's no hassle at all ime.

But then I also love my underfloor heating, green walls, painted wooden kitchen with metro tiles, tiled floors, and bifold doors on the garden room! Grin You'd all hate my house. (I love it!)

Personally I would not have a telly, matching furniture, chrome fittings, clutter/ornaments, repro art, patterns, themed rooms, fake wood things, polyester curtains. But polyester and veneer etc are more a question of finances than of taste, I think, in many cases.

Blackeyez09 · 29/03/2015 10:24

Funny a lot of the stuff mentioned is what actually sells houses!

Sash windows, wood burners, wood floors, f&b paint, plantation shutters

AccidentalAnarchist · 29/03/2015 10:25

Spiders
Downstairs bathroom
Bathroom carpet
my current kitchen

CandyAppleFudge · 29/03/2015 10:38

Thought of more;
Net curtains
Decking
The same blue bird/flower feature wallpaper everyone has around here Confused
Front doors that lead into a room straight away
Walls that haven't been plastered straight

treaclesoda · 29/03/2015 10:43

Oh yes, I don't find this thread particularly mean, it's all quite good natured.

I have quite a few things in my house that other people here have said they hate. No problem to me - if they're in my house because I put them there then I like them and that's what matters. If they're in my house because the previous owner liked them then I probably agree with the people saying they hate them. No offence taken either way.

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 29/03/2015 10:48

i fuckin LOVE my moms conservatory. Its the kids playroom, and when you shut the old patio doors, you can't hear a peep from them, but you can still keep an eye on them.

PigletJohn · 29/03/2015 10:51

A plastic door.

Woodchip wallpaper

Chipboard floors

Nylon carpet

Storage heaters

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 29/03/2015 11:01

It's not a mean thread at all. i'm intensely relaxed about half the contents of my house appearing on so many NO lists. Though I don't have a bidet.

OP posts:
LittleMilkNoSugar · 29/03/2015 11:36

bodingading your house sounds rather lovely unless the tiles are in the living room Wink

I don't think this thread is horrible. It's very interesting to see what others like/dislike.
Personally I love my metro tiles, cream gloss handleless kitchen and would love a kitchen island and a wood burner. And even though I now know lots of people don't like them I still really want one!

On a similar thread a while back someone's list of dislikes pretty much described my kitchen to a tee. You win some, you lose some.

antumbra · 29/03/2015 11:42

I love my conservatory. It is 25ft by 18ft, The slightest bit of sun even in winter and it is very warm. It is the perfect place for OH and I to chat with a glass or two of wine watching the sun set over the woods at the back of our house.
We entertained in the conservatory on christmas eve, the conservatory decked in twinkling lights while we listened to Carols from Kings and drunk mulled wine with friends.
