I'll start.

A kitchen island.
A hall console table.
A corner sofa.
New rugs.

I am thinking of getting a plumbed-in Miele coffee machine.

I have an irrational hatred of stairs that start in the living room.

front doors that open in a room

AND conservatories.

first two are an absolute deal breaker Blush

RatOnnaStick · 29/03/2015 20:45

I hate stairs and/or a front door in the living room too. I did breath a big sigh of relief when we moved into our first place and it had a hallway. It wasn't as if there was much choice as to what else was available so we did just take what was there at the time.

Devora · 29/03/2015 20:47

I have a front door that opens into the living room, and stairs that start there too.

You're right; it's awful Sad

Blackeyez09 · 29/03/2015 20:47

I have both old and new rugs I bought a rug for my bedroom old off ebay that is very nice and a bargain for the size

My new one from john Lewis is also lovely but was expensive for me

Bunbaker · 29/03/2015 20:48

The door opened into our living room in our first house. We couldn't afford anything better. We have moved on since then.

Casuallyvacant · 29/03/2015 20:51

Lapsed your house sounds wonderful. A thousand times more interesting than beigefarrownball and metro tiles and other wanktastic ubiquitous shte that everyone who thinks they are so original has.

Our house is ancient and rambling and full of an eclectic mix of old, very old, rescued form a skip and old. It's stunning.

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 29/03/2015 20:53

I have a metallic gold damask feature wall in my bedroom. Shock The room is very large and VERY plain, it was crying out for a feature wall and would have been too restrained without it.

Stripped Pine furniture. And stripped pine doors. Meh.

bodingading · 29/03/2015 20:55

Oh dear, it's getting a little heated. Wink

Please tell me more about what my tiles say about my character and inner thoughts!

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 29/03/2015 21:07

I also have metro tiles in one of my bathrooms. I quite like them. I'm very glad I didn't opt for grey grouting though. [phew]

bodingading · 29/03/2015 21:11

Haha! A lucky escape!

Stripyhoglets · 29/03/2015 21:14

I have several of these crimes against good house taste in my house. But I love my metro tiles. I do not love the artex ceilings in a couple of rooms - we moved in with those and I now know they must go next time we decorate.
But generally the list of bad things had reduced we have removed :-
Coloured bathroom suite
Coloured cloakroom suite
Carpets in kitchen/cloakroom and bathroom
Stencilling
Peach bathroom tiling
Dodgy 1970s glass doors

We have only added :-
Laminate
Metro tiles
Fake electric fire and surround

So it's a move in the right direction!

If we ever move again there must be no artex.

Mintyy · 29/03/2015 21:14

I think anyone who feels insulted/hurt/upset/vulnerable that some people on Mumsnet (a site with 800,000+ members apparently) don't like some of the things they have in their house needs to get a grip quite frankly. And I mean that in a caring way, I really do.

Millions of people would hate my house ... it has three rooms which are very cluttered, acres of ancient carpet, some matching mugs (from Tesco fgs!!!) woodchip, a massive crack on the staircase, an indoor guinea pig, white gloss kitchen, shower curtain, loo brush, can be walked around in in shoes by strangers, almost no books on display, is in London, etc etc.

It is positively bonkers to think that any house could be perfect.

Mintyy · 29/03/2015 21:15

I quite like metro tiles but I wouldn't put them in now as they have deffo had their time Wink.

Stripyhoglets · 29/03/2015 21:16

Oh we have indoor guinea pigs too!

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 29/03/2015 21:18

StripyHiglets - I'm very excited about your installation of the FAKE electric fire. But maybe it's much nicer than it sounds. Grin

Rousette my DPs have an unbelievably gloomy dark wood kitchen with really unflattering glaring fluorescent tubes. I hate it (they didn't choose it but can't be bothered to replace it, after 14 odd years in the house I doubt they will now).

If anyone wants a not-new rug they're welcome to DH's horrid cream Ikea rug which has had numerous red wine spills and baby drool and vomit. It's going as soon as DD2 has done her share of crawling and drooling over it, a good thick rug is a good surface for a baby to learn to crawl on.

We also have framed panoramic prints of London and NY skyline. DH's choice, not mine. There are several other pictures I wouldn't give house room to, too, but I have to let him have some stuff of his own in the house :)

wonkylegs · 29/03/2015 21:39

I'm not really bothered as I am happy to remodel anything but I would immediately change:
Artex
Wood chip
Amtico or other posh vinyl
Hot tub (love visiting them on holiday but don't want my own)
Mirrored ceiling
Kitchen island unless kitchen is seriously huge.
Low ceilings
Bar
Ensuite bathroom
Blue lights (saw this a lot in kitchens & outside when we were house hunting)
Carpeted kitchen or bathroom
Tiny skirting

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 29/03/2015 21:51

What would you replace Amtico with, wonkylegs?

We're just about to get Karndean in our hall - had laminate before. Don't want carpet, & it's a small concreted space. Karndean (wood effect) seems ideal Confused

mousmous · 29/03/2015 21:59

amtico is fine imo, looks a look cheaper than it is I suppose.
it's easy to clean und feels nice under foot.

motleymop · 29/03/2015 22:00

I have a pedestal/piss mat - I want to tell people who use my bathroom that it's definitely not there cos I like them, but because the marble floor tiles are so so cold (should have got underfloor heating), plus I am paranoid about the marble getting etched should there be a spillage (not from me, I might add!)

motleymop · 29/03/2015 22:06

Does anyone remember in the olden days some people had fluffy covers over the top of their loo seat lids? What the hell were they supposed to do and did they have a name?

motleymop · 29/03/2015 22:10

www.dunelm-mill.com/m/shop/luxury-cotton-non-slip-seat-cover-110883

There you go. Definitely wouldn't want them in my house.

marshmallowpies · 29/03/2015 22:30

I've seen a carpeted bathroom but not sure I've ever seen a carpeted kitchen! Does it really exist?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 29/03/2015 22:36

My MIL has carpet tiles in her kitchen - granted she's over 90, but she's had them forever. They're supposed to be quite practical as you can lift & replace damaged ones.

She also has (dark brown) shag pile throughout her house. No
underlay either Shock
