We're just about to start re-decorating and being faced with the massivvvve choice on the F&B colour card I'm wondering what other people have plumped for (and for which room)?

Any colours that have proved disappointing once on the wall?

my front door was french gray until July...very muted and pale

I liked it but outdoors and opposite a wood I found it a bit insipid and repainted the door in Lichen. Lichen is almost a perfect one shade darker...

i imagine it would look perfect in your room

my four year olds beds are painted elephants breath

PatriciaHolm · 10/09/2010 23:10

We have Eating Room Red in the dining room.

Cliche, moi?

FellatioNelson · 10/09/2010 23:20

Outdoors the colours always look softer/paler though. I was worried that my Castle Room Gray or whatever it's called would be too dark, but not at all. Although I'm currently a bit obsessed with wanted to paint all my exterior woodwork in matt dark grey, against the soft red brick. I won't (can't afford it for a start) but I like to fantasise over it.

NotAnOtter I know what you mean about the tile colours. Luckily the rug I have in the hall is a perfect match, but I was wary about going with a red stripe on the stairs in case it clashed, but I pulled it off - just. I'd quite like to paint my hall a welcoming colour but it's quite a dark room, and I really don't like any of the ones that would work with the floor, so I stick to off-white.

Fellatio your (lovely) kitchen is similar to mine , except I have Blue Ground on the units (north facing so needed a warmer blue).

I have F&B all over the house, but apart from Blue Ground, my fave colour is Old White, which we have in the bathroom, as it looks wonderfully rustic on our wibbly wobbly walls.

NotanOtter · 11/09/2010 19:47

none of you have professed undying for shaded white 'tis heaven

as is blackened ( under rated)

FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 19:55

Me! Me! I have! (pay attention.Angry)

I have it in my bedroom and my conservatory, which is also my formal dining room. It is an exquisite colour.

NomDePlume · 11/09/2010 20:18

Living room - Stony Ground
Hall, stairs & study - String
Kitchen - String/Cooking Apple Green
Main bedroom & DS1's room - Cord
Downstairs loo & Porch - Dimity

Rest of the house is a mix of Dulux & Laura Ashley paints

NomDePlume · 11/09/2010 20:22

Oh and I haave a console table and some panelling painted in Old White eggshell and some rad covers painted in String eggshell (diff rooms obv)

saltyseadog · 11/09/2010 20:55

What colour have you used for woodwork?

I've chosen pointing but I'm worried that it's going to look too creamy.

OP posts:
FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 21:31

Most of mine is pointing. It's not too creamy at all, and it goes well with just about every colour. I have alot of slipper satin woodwork as well, which is lovely, but can really change depending on what you put it next to. Some combinations are more successful than others.

Gawd, it sounds like I've deocrated an entire Victorian sanitorium with fifty six wards.Shock

NotanOtter · 11/09/2010 21:59

all mine was pointing but recently changed to PB

FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 22:06

What's PB?Confused

NotanOtter · 11/09/2010 22:49

pure brilliant

FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 23:06
Shock

And so you should whisper young lady. Actually I'm oking. I think there is a valid place in this word for pure brilliant. sometimes it's the only way to go. Not in my house right now, but some place...

And it looks so fantastic when it's brand spanking new.

NotanOtter · 11/09/2010 23:17

i like art and art looks best on PB imo!

FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 23:19

You are right there! That's why, try as I might to get down wiv de yoof and embrace colour and pattern, I always end up back at white or off-white walls. All the better to see you with!

noddyholder · 12/09/2010 07:52

Notanotter I am having had whole new house painted PB as part of deal with builders and so that we can get in!It actually looks v modern and finished and am thinking may live with it before I go mad with the F and B!Our first house was all pure white and it looked great.Although still having tv snug darker

TheBolter · 12/09/2010 09:42

I LOVE blackened, and have never had a chance to use it. However we are about to have a garden room/conservatory built so I will consider it for use on the woodwork in there. Thanks for the tip FN!

Another underrated is Hardwick White, which rather like Old White is fabulously murky. I was going to put it in our hall but it was just too dark. Against the flagstone floors the hall looked like a cave! So we ended up with Fired Earth's Ecru.

Fired Earth do lovely colours too... anther thread another time perhaps? Smile

saltyseadog · 12/09/2010 11:31

Thanks for the reassurance on the pointing .

OP posts:
FellatioNelson · 12/09/2010 12:18

Fired Earth paints are great actually, also very high in pigment. You do have to stir them really really well though or they go on streaky. We have 'stone ochre' in our TV room, which is lovely.

NotanOtter · 12/09/2010 20:51

will post a quick pic of precious sixthborn bathroom panelling ...

saltyseadog · 12/09/2010 20:54

Oh god notanotter - you have a perfect linen cupboard .

FellatioNelson · 12/09/2010 22:27
