We're just about to start re-decorating and being faced with the massivvvve choice on the F&B colour card I'm wondering what other people have plumped for (and for which room)?

Any colours that have proved disappointing once on the wall?

I am very tempted by Pale Powder (love, love duck egg) and Clunch. Will report back on choices :)

kevin mccloud does a range for fired earth - have found these to be of a better quality than f & B, a decorator friend of mine said he'd never use F&B through choice as it doesn't go on well or wear well.

Also basic design rule no.1 never have green or blue in a dining room. historically they were never used, i belive it is something to do with it giving a greeny / blue hue to the food which is reminicent of rotting meat [ewww emoticon]

Cooking Apple Green, gorgeous.

biffandchip · 06/09/2010 19:06

I use Parma Grey in my Ds's rooms, it's a lovely blue. I have just gone for Blue Grey which is obv green when it is on the wall Confused I can't afford the real thing so go to my local Leyland outlet and they make it up for me.

mandylifeboats · 06/09/2010 19:10

Is this the brand that has a shade called Mouse's Back? Didn't care for the colour but what a lovely name!

merrymonsters · 06/09/2010 19:10

We have Saxon Green in our living room and Dorset Cream in our playroom. Both very nice.

Lulworth Blue is a beautiful colour.

noddyholder · 06/09/2010 19:15

Love clunch, joas white, lamp room gray and buff.Depth of colour is lovely and I think thats why the neutrals aren;t dull like some others.Am about to paint a room brinjal which I love but could look terrible!

FandB · 06/09/2010 20:33

We have tunsgrate green in our lounge which is lovely and fresh.
Also, just repainted a dresser in old white with a slightly off white (mixed some brilliant white eggshell with a splash of old white) on the inside which looks really good - if I do say so myself Grin.
this one is done in bone which is a shade darker than the old white

hester · 06/09/2010 21:43

Ooh, noddyholder, I love brinjal. I'm sure it will look wonderul.

noddyholder · 07/09/2010 08:14

Thanks hester it is a lovely room and I really don't want beige! The rest of the house is old white so want a real 'night' room sanctuary for winter.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/09/2010 08:19

Used Parma Gray in my bathroom with blackened on the woodwork and I love it. Matchstick in my hall way and cord in the kitchen, with cooking apple green on some woodwork and ringwold ground on the rest. I love F&B - washes down really well and goes on fabulously, and oh the names.

noddyholder · 07/09/2010 08:27

I love the names too Cats paw!

Bettymum · 07/09/2010 08:27

We have Hay in the study, Savage Ground in the sitting room, and Rectory Red in the dining room. They are all fab.
I love the way the paler colours look totally different in different lights, in our old house we had String in three rooms but you'd have thought it was three different paints.
Loving some of the colour combinations on here, may have to do some decorating...

QS · 07/09/2010 08:30

Our decorator (actually both decorators we got quotes from) said that F&B was highly overrated. The paint just wasnt very good quality, a lot of expensive hype. They said, tell me what colour you like, and I will get the colour mixed with Dulux or Jonsons, which are much better and cheaper.

I like Vert De Terre. Looks beautiful on shaker style kitchen units.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/09/2010 08:32

Ballroom Blue on the door.

drivingmissdaisy · 07/09/2010 11:19

QS I have heard many decorators say this and have to disagree. We have used mostly F&B in the house and some dulux - there is a world of difference in use and how it looks when finished. F&B goes on the wall like silk and leaves a beautiful matt finish whereas cheaper paint leaves streaks. I wonder if the decorators only have access to Dulux or make more money by using it rather than F&B. The beauty of F&B is that depending on the time of day/light etc the colour looks different whereas Dulux just looks flat.

noddyholder · 07/09/2010 11:35

All my decorators like it.But dulux do sponsor many so that may be a factor. Can I also reccomend marstons paints.Stunning and great to work with

PaulineCampbellJones · 07/09/2010 11:37

Dimity which is a light brown. Very velvety. We have a White one in the family room which may as well be Dulux. Also have pale powder in guest room which is a nice pale teal. Again texture looks very good.

saltyseadog · 07/09/2010 14:34

My DB and SIL have just used Dimity in their sitting room - I have still to see the results.

cooking apple green

TennisFan · 07/09/2010 15:35

the house we have just moved into has all been painted with F&B, as I saw all the tins in the garage.
I will have to check the names now to see what they are

HerHonesty · 08/09/2010 18:20

i think i've posted before but its not just about colour the finish with f and b is very different and dulux doesnt come close. fwiw i dont think colour matching works either because of the depth of colout but some would disagree.

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 08/09/2010 18:22

We have New White almost everywhere and it's lovely. A really creamy cream which looks particularly good with Chinese Blue.

megonthemoon · 08/09/2010 18:27

Elephant's breath is lovely - have it in bathroom and DH now wants to use it in every room!

Recently painted another room with dulux and can definitely tell the difference in quality - f&b much smoother and more consistent. Dulux a bit streakier.

I really like the look of brinjal, but no idea where I would be brave enough to use it!

saltyseadog · 08/09/2010 20:22

Ditto on Brinjal! I may 'encourage' DH to paint his study with it.
