Hi everyone,

This is an offer brought to you by Young Driver

It’s no secret that the younger you start learning something, the quicker it’ll sink in - and when it comes to driving, teens typically can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

Young Driver is offering an exclusive 10% off 30- or 60-minute driving lessons for 10-17 year olds with the discount code MUMSRULE10. Lessons run at 70+ venues across the UK on private land with fully qualified driving instructors.

Getting teens driving can be safe, fun and a great gift idea with Young Driver.

Use the code MUMSRULE10 for 10% off at Young Driver.

Excellent. My dd has had a lesson every few months for the last two years. She loves it and its something I would definitely recommend whether as a one off treat or a regular thing.

Rocsand03 · 07/02/2020 13:42

My ds had one when he was 12 and loved it. Would love to get him some more

Sunshineand · 07/02/2020 17:38

Looks pretty expensive

megletthesecond · 07/02/2020 23:04

I've been meaning to book DD's first lesson for the summer. Her brother loved his young driver lessons.

NoFucksImAQueen · 08/02/2020 10:11

Uh what? These are more than normal lessons and they are already extortionate. What a con

Melmel22 · 08/02/2020 11:54

Hi guys I’m looking for any information and advice I can get on this. A week ago I have been diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy and I have been sent for surgery. After the operation I have been informed that in fact it was not an ectopic pregnancy and that I am still pregnant. Has anyone went through the same and ended having a healthy pregnancy?

Rowgtfc72 · 08/02/2020 12:25

@NoFucksImAQueen they are bloody expensive but I'm pretty sure your bog standard driving instructor wouldn't let my 12 yr old dd loose in their learner car. We've found a local guy who is cheaper but he wont take kids till they're 14. For now these do us. Early bird offer knocks money off as well( but they dont mention that!)

megletthesecond · 08/02/2020 12:31

@Melmel22 I'll ask for your post to be removed to the pregnancy board. Flowers. Hope you are ok.

Toomboom · 08/02/2020 14:11

My son did these for a while. They are expensive, but he enjoyed them and it gave him confidence behind the wheel.
It didn't really help when he started proper lessons at 17 though. Big difference driving around a closed off airfield or road to actually driving on a very busy road having a lesson. His young driver experience didn't take this into account.

NoFucksImAQueen · 08/02/2020 17:09

But row what benefit are they? They are saying in the post we all know the younger you are better you learn etc which yes is true but 17 is hardly old they still learn quickly then and they can actually pass their test. It's a gimmick and if they want to advertise this as something fun then fine but dont make out like its any help towards actual lessons

crumpledlinen · 08/02/2020 18:32

I think they do help when you start to drive, just a couple of times a year from 13 to 16 helps quite a lot, just for familiarity....

ILikeYouToo · 08/02/2020 19:51

My son's had a few lessons with Young Driver and they do help prepare them for the road. He knows how to change gear and control the car - so when he's 17 and goes on the road he'll be able to concentrate more on all the other stuff!

I think the point is you don't want them to 'learn quickly' and try pass their test as soon as they can - you want them to learn for as long as possible so they properly know what they're doing. Practice makes perfect and all that.

But there's no denying my son thinks they're really good fun too! So win win!

OrangeLindt · 09/02/2020 17:13

Is this for The UK? You have to be 17 to obtain a provisional licence?

megletthesecond · 09/02/2020 17:20

Yes, UK orange. They just don't drive on public roads. Mine have been to newbury showground and a car park in Southampton for their YD lessons. They set up traffic lights, practice parking, braking etc.

Really good for car control and drumming some common sense into them as teens.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/02/2020 17:37

Just realised I cant use this discount as we always book the 9.30am slot and get an early bird discount. Just read the terms and conditions and you cant use two offers. Shame.

ingenie are great

Bezalelle · 10/02/2020 07:17

Eh? I thought this was an April Fool at first.

How could a 10-year-old even reach the pedals! Some of them are tiny.

It never fails to amaze me what people will pay for nowadays. What next? Send your embryo to college?

missmouse101 · 10/02/2020 11:22

Voucher code doesn't work.Sad

SorchaMumsnet · 10/02/2020 12:52

Hi @missmouse101 - sorry to hear the voucher code isn't working for you. Could you let us know for what time slot you are booking for and where you're putting the code? So we can see what the issue might be.

Thanks!

TheVanguardSix · 10/02/2020 12:52

What next? Send your embryo to college? LOL!

So that's what all those things were floating around the Sheffield open day! Grin

missmouse101 · 10/02/2020 13:23

Hi Sorcha, I was putting it in 3pm on Sunday 29 March at 3pm at Chepstow racecourse. I have just tried again and it's worked now! Thanks!

Whatthefunk · 10/02/2020 13:58

Can the code be used for the young driver plus experience?

SorchaMumsnet · 10/02/2020 15:40

Hi @Whatthefunk

Do you mean the Young Driver Advanced Skills Day? If so, then yes the code can be redeemed on that.

Do bear in mind, participants need to have had two or more Young Driver lessons previously to go on the Skills Day.

Whatthefunk · 10/02/2020 17:33

Thanks
