My PPPPFB DD1 is starting "big" school on Monday

Anyone else?

Am I going to be a blubbing wreck?

Expat, we have exactly the same problem with skirts. Every year, my tall, skinny DD1 has this skirt. DD2 got this one. The only 2 styles I could find in navy with adjustable waists.

We don't do trousers but for pinafores, the jersey ones are cut a bit slimmer.

sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 16:42

DD1 is tall and very skinny too, I got her pinafores as they are better than skirts for her, got one skirt for gym day with a school polo shirt. Her uniform is blue shirt, grey skirt/trousers and burgundy tie and cardigan/jumper. Got most stuff in the 3 for 2 in M&S then the rest of it from the school shop.

Her 101 Dalmatians raincoat came today as well only ordered it yesterday too as no doubt first day at school it will be raining.

Thanks for that about the skirts, Ceolas! In case I need one in a pinch without time for getting one from America.

I love M&S, but we only have a small one without having to go all the way into Glasgow, so I usually buy online from them.

I looked at the one near us and everything in there was grey and HUGE.

It's shocking how big those clothes are cut.

sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 17:01

I got DD1's skirts from M&S too expat, did you have a look at Primark when you were in Glasgow last for skinny jeans for your DD1?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2009 17:06

I didn't look for jeans, sweet, unfortunately just didn't have time as it took soooo long to get in there and the shoes were the top priority.

Had parked in Concert Square car park so could get to Buchanan easier.

She's up to speed on jeans at the mo', but give her 5 minutes and she'll outgrow them.

Mental putting it all together with three little ones and packing and DS crawling everywhere.

sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 17:14

Are you moving expat, whereabouts?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2009 17:18

going to have to move by october, sweet, as landlord is returning to scotland.

will hopefully get 4 bed council flat in the same village as the girls' school so only 1/2 mile walk each way!

fingers crossed (any good vibes appreciated!).

a little too far out here for my tastes so again, hoping to get the flat, which is also close enough for bus service into town for when our car is in the shop.

aGalChangedHerName · 13/08/2009 17:24

DD1 starts on Tuesday

DD2 starts nursery on Thursday

sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 17:56

expat - I knew your landlord was coming back soonish that's why I was asking. And I know you want to stay in that area, will keep everything crossed for you

aGal - same here, DD1 starts Monday, DD2 goes abck to nursery same day (yippee), just me and gorgeous little DD3 for a few hours a day.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 13/08/2009 17:57

Not that my other two aren't gorgeous lol what I mean is that having a 5yo and 3 1/2 yo is more difficult than one little content 13 month old, be lovely to have her to myself without the others demanding things all the time.

Ceolas · 13/08/2009 21:11

Oh good vibes for that house, expat!

I hate shopping in general but especially for school stuff. I usually order online as even with M&S close by, you can be disappointed with sizes. I don't know what they've done over the last few years. Everything is so short and wide. Plus you get better deals (3 for 2 and free delivery)!

expatinscotland · 13/08/2009 21:23

Thanks again, Ceolas!

It's a flat, starts on the 2nd floor, but hey, DD1 is starting Brownies and as soon as we get settled, I'm joining the mountaineers group here so we can start walking as a family and learning the lay of the land here.

We may not have a garden, but we'll be getting out!

Chrysanthemum5 · 14/08/2009 08:57

Fingers crossed for you getting the place you want expat, it must be stressful. And I know what you mean about the adjustable waists on childrens clothes! I got gym shorts for DS from M+S that I thought were adjustable but it turned out the ties were only for decoration (why?!) so the shorts just fell straight off whenever DS moved.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 14/08/2009 09:00

I got all the uniform yesterday, dd only strted this school after easter so thankfully never needed an entire new wardrobe for it.
John Lewis was pandemonium getting shoes for dd have to get her school branded uniform from there too so at least got it all in one.
I actually feel more sad that dd is going into P2 than I did P1 because she is growing up way too fast and now she's in school it seems to go even faster.

sweetkitty · 14/08/2009 14:07

Did all the name tages last night and ironed everything.

Realised that I don't have any burgundy thread so will need to get some tomorrow to sew her badge on her blazer.

So glad I got her a new raincoat as well, it's pouring here today and set to all weekend

only two more sleeps then first day at school! Getting nervous now.

Doesnt help that we've just moved ds into bigger bedroom, dh finished flooring within fitted wardrobe on Thursday, and Friday morning there was water leaking into living room from nail he accidently put through water pipe. Ceiling, walls and carpet are all soaked through.

Called in emergency plumber who lifted floorboard and burst pipe sprayed everywhere covering ds's freshly ironed uniform in yucky water from heating system.

Washed, dried and ironed uniform today and his M&S poloshirts have shrunk a bit but embroidered school badge hasnt and is now bent looking.

A bottle of wine tonite and all will be seem better!

sweetkitty · 15/08/2009 21:24

Got burgundy thread today so we are all sorted now

can you believe tomorrow it will be one sleep until big school day?

OP posts:
brokenspacebar · 15/08/2009 21:26

Poor you lindax! I hope the bottle of wine helps...is the house okay? Polo shirts are very good at shrinking imho, apart from the school ones, which are three times dearer than the shop ones.

What snacks are you giving your bairns for playpiece?

I have no problem with dd, who only ever wants an apple, but ds...? what will fill him up, but not take too long to eat and be considered "healthy" too?

He will eat dried fruit and those school bars but they seem a bit paltry?

sweetkitty · 15/08/2009 22:14

playpiece - haven't a clue, have bought some fruit bar things, DD1 doesn't like bananas and likes fruit cut up cannot send her with a wee pot of strawberries and grapes, suppose I could give her yoghurt raisins.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/08/2009 22:26

Arrggh, Lindax!

Hope you get things sorted.

We start on Tuesday here and we're slow start so have a while to think about lunches.

sweetkitty · 15/08/2009 22:37

lunches - haven't thought about them either would prefer school dinners as it means less hassle having to make up packed lunches at night but we shall see what she prefers.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/08/2009 22:38

DD1 has already expressed her preference for school dinners!

Paolosgirl · 15/08/2009 22:39

My 'baby' starts High School on Tuesday - can I come and hold you hand too, please??? So many sleepless nights....

I'm sure your wee one will be fine. Is he excited?

sweetkitty · 15/08/2009 22:46

By the time DD1 starts high school DD2 will be in P7 and DD3 in p4 and I will be far too old
