Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

Swissmiss - whats a taggit??

Does it involve no sewing??

swissmiss · 25/06/2009 23:18

simpson - NO sewing!!! You got it. taggits. Ok so I'll prob end up sewing in those on his polo shits (he hates lables on his neck) but I'm using them for everything else.

swissmiss · 25/06/2009 23:19

for some of them where I don't want the lable folded in half, I've just stuck a taggit at each end. Worth it IMO.

swissmiss · 25/06/2009 23:19

label!!! (that's one word i've never been able to spell first time!)

breeminor · 26/06/2009 03:15

Hi everyone... not a newbie, just being nosy . My DS has is just coming to the end of reception.

Just a hint for label haters of which my DS is one. I had them sewn at the bottom of his shirts. So he can still see them even when the shirt is on.

helsbels4 · 26/06/2009 05:59

Ah, that's a really good tip - hadn't thought of that!!! My dd starts school in September and is hugely excited (unlike her mother )

I must admit, I quite enjoy sewing all the labels in the uniform (have a ds is yr4 so plenty of practice so far!) still doesn't stop the stuff going walkies though - grrrrr

PinkTulips · 26/06/2009 10:37

damn you tea... just spent silly money on that site

norks, look under Nametapes - woven sew on nametapes - woven nametapes... there's some with really easy to read scripts... gorgeous!

treedelivery · 26/06/2009 11:28

PinkTulips - you know it makes sense.

So school coats....

I want one of those rain coats of girls, that are a bit like a trench, but have a full skirt type effect. Does anyone have th slightest idea what I mean?

OP posts:
norksinmywaistband · 26/06/2009 11:29

maybe I should have explored the site thoroughly before posting
Just got loads going on at the moment

norksinmywaistband · 26/06/2009 11:31

I quite like thisnot a full skirt though

treedelivery · 26/06/2009 11:36

Me too.

I like the duffle too, I like duffle coats. I had a burberry classic one [sold for funds when dd1 on her way] and it was so so so snug int here.

DD1 has the Boden ski type jacket from last season [I thinkit will fit her until she is 10] so not only is she waterproof, she will never be lost on a snowstorm as it is has very bright big spots. Granny got it at Boden sale for £15 hurrah!

Hi
Those taggits look like a brilliant idea! DC1's godmother has asked to buy him name tags like she had when she was a child www.jjcash.co.uk/shop/nametapes/woven-sew-on-name-labels/
which is lovely, but I wasn't looking forward to all that sewing.

DC1 had his induction, and DH picked up the polo shirts and sweatshirts with school logo so DC1 has been wearing them round the house - he looks so grown up - I almost cried at my pfb being so big.

I am in love with this girls' winter coat. DD's uniform is grey skirt with a red cardigan or jumper and this coat would look lovely, just at the price for a school coat!
I have tended to go for padded style coats for winter for my DS at school and he always seems warm and dry so perhaps I should continue, but I do like that coat .....

Lulumama · 26/06/2009 15:31

am I too late to join?

tigana · 26/06/2009 15:44

I am struggling to keep up with this thread....

School uniform drifts through my mind every so often, and then I think "it's only June"...am I a slattern or are you all super-organised.

Itsjustafleshwound · 26/06/2009 15:57

Stuck on You label company - they seem to do quite a range ... especially shoe labels

Uniform bought and delivered - now all she has to do is not grow too big!!

DD seems to be dealing with the whole new school thing so much better than me ...

Chrysanthemum5 · 26/06/2009 16:59

Oh itsjustafleshwound - I love those things at stuck on you. They are very cool, although since I think they are cool DC1 will probably think they are rotten

At least at the age of 4 they can't protest too much - though you can't go too far wrong with some of the icons ... [hopefully!!]

simpson · 26/06/2009 18:18

lulumama I only joined 3 days ago

On the school front DS not phased by it at all, unlike me

teafortwo · 26/06/2009 20:13

Phew - just back from sales shopping - new school clohes in bag, coffee (me) and cake (dd) in tummies!

blametheparents - Wow, wow and wooooow... I like the coats you linked to and have fallen madly deeply truly for this little lovely number here...
sigh!!!

Lulumama - wecome welcome welcome!

pinktulip - that site is so lovely, hey..?

treedelivery · 26/06/2009 20:29

Hello Lulumama and welcome. Never too late to join, although I suppose 2nd week of term might miss some of the hullabaloo

Have searched and searched for the coat I mean - can't find an image. My postnatal buddy Moose who found those taggits might be able to help.

I want a long girls coat, they are a bit like a trench at the top, but have quite a full skirt. Has anyone any idea what I'm on about?

Cash sew on labels

simpson · 26/06/2009 20:32

Oh God do I have to label shoes too!!?

All these things I had never thought about

treedelivery · 26/06/2009 20:38

Nah it's me, I'm a bit of a loon when it comes to all this stuff.

Mind you, if there are 15 girls in DD1's class, I bet all 15 have the 3 different pairs of Clarks school shoes.

OP posts:
Itsjustafleshwound · 26/06/2009 20:48

Shoes seem to be one of the more expensive things I have bought so don't want to be unnecessarily repeating the exercise ....

simpson · 26/06/2009 20:49

yes choice in clarks is not the best
