I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

DS got an offer for 8+ entry KCS. It’s been quite a journey to get here.
For all 7+ parents who didnot make it this time, it’s defi worth a try in 8+. Hats off to all children for even attempting these entrance exams. It takes a lot at that age.

🙌🏼. Big Congratulations. Your DS is a fighter. Bless!

Congratulations @2minutesplease @Pbhar and @Choberia . DS got an offer for 7+. Best of luck to all the kids and their parent for the next one - what these kids are doing at their tender age… is unbelievable ❤️

I also want to thank this forum. I didn’t know anyone else who was preparing for 7+. So it was extremely lonely at times for me. thanks for giving me this thread to engage with ❤️❤️

Yogibear1324 · 16/11/2024 09:54

@Pbhar how did you prepare for 8+? How far did you get at 7+?

Oldmanandthe · 16/11/2024 12:03

I've just found this group. If anyone has a 7+ offer for WUS, I would love to connect. Please feel free to private message me.

Mama252 · 16/11/2024 14:26

DS got offers as well - for both KCS and WUS. We feel so incredibly lucky to be in this position. So happy for everyone who got offers as well. Congratulations! @2minutesplease @Powerpray @Pbhar @Choberia. Wish everyone the best of luck as the exams continue.

Caps0218 · 16/11/2024 15:28

Congratulations @Mama252. Well done to your DS.
Do you have a preference of school?

Congratulations @Mama252. Well done to your DS.
Do you have a preference of school?

Not yet sure. We didn't have a preference going in because we have to move anyway and honestly didn't know what to expect. We also still have the SPJ exam coming up, so I think we'll do that and then decide.

Thank you!! :-)

Fellow mums with DS already achieved success in 7+/ 8+, do you think 7 mins for 15 math questions is realistic as per EPP test papers? What’s the average time your child takes for a similar task?

Caps0218 · 16/11/2024 18:58

@San2023 Which EPP tests are these? Mental Maths?

Yes EPP test papers- mental arithmetic.

Caps0218 · 16/11/2024 19:27

I think that's about right for mental maths. I guess depends on the difficulty. Do you have an example of a question?

It's a mix. Few are straight forward and some of them need 2 steps and 2-3 questions need 3 steps sometimes.

Caps0218 · 16/11/2024 19:39

I would be astonished if these schools had more than 2 step mental maths....for example a pack of sweets costs 35p, how much change from £2 for 2 packs of sweets.

Yes it will not be easy for sure. Accuracy is important and achievable but accuracy with speed will make the difference.🤯😫

I think it’s possible, but probably a more useful trick is to learn to skip difficult questions, and come back later if time permits.

I think the poster meant mental maths, so not sure they can come back to it?

Oops, my apologies. We’ve only done Atom + free sample papers from the internet, so I’m not sure about the format of EPP.

My point is just to build their awareness of time spent per question, not to get distracted by something beyond their comfort zone.

Yogibear1324 · 17/11/2024 16:58

Congratulations @Pbhar @2minutesplease @Choberia @Mama252 @Powerpray where do you all live? We hear Kings doesn’t picking kids who live too far. Wonder if that played a part in DS not making it past activity morning/interview…,.

Caps0218 · 17/11/2024 17:18

@Yogibear1324 my understanding is that roughly 30 kids come from Squirrels and Rowans.
I know one child who was picked and is coming from North West London.

Squirrels is part of the KCS group while Rowan was recently sold by KCS to someone else.

Yes - but nevertheless at least half the kids come from these 2, so 24 to 30 places on offer for kids at other schools, which is not a lot!

Any idea how many are sitting for SPJS this time?
