I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

Same boat - DS1 is in KCS so that’s our main school. We live very close to the school also so all round it’s the best choice for us. But DS2 is a July baby - so that poses its own challenges of time and stamina!

There are quite a few Summer babies in my son’s year, I’d say at least 10! Huge respect to summer borns and their parents. ❤️❤️

Is this in your DS1 who is at KCJS?

Yes he is!

Caps0218 · 04/10/2024 14:58

Started to get emails through from KCJS and WUS with timings etc....all becoming very real now....

OP posts:
Powerpray · 04/10/2024 15:54

Yes! Same feeling here - received the KCJS email …

2minutesplease · 04/10/2024 22:07

And I didn’t! Was it about the particular groups your sons are in?

Caps0218 · 04/10/2024 22:15

I think they said groups will be emailed next week. This was the email about timings etc…

OP posts:
Caps0218 · 04/10/2024 22:17

So frustrating….he did a good comprehension yesterday (Year 2) but did a not so good one today, although it was a Year 3 comprehension, so quite tricky I thought.

Consistency is such an issue at this age - I am just taking each day as it comes - we can just reinforce the main concepts in our feedback discussion and then hope for the best on the day!

This is extremely advanced in my opinion and I doubt this is an actual KCS 7plus paper. These children have just started Year2… I wouldn’t worry about this being the level.

Just noticed this on the Exam Paper Plus website, is this really the level of Kings 7+ exam? If it is then we will struggle with the vocabulary.

Don’t worry. EPP “special” papers like St Paul’s maths, Kings English have absolutely nothing to do with real school exams. Just a marketing trick so parents rush buying them “just in case”. I remember how everyone bought St Paul’s paper 3 years ago and it was so ridiculously difficult that the kids got 30% maximum. The same kids were offered a place SPJS after exams.

But they are saying somehow they have got hold of the actual Kings Comprehension paper….its not one of their own….although I tend to agree…this is something you would expect at 8/9+….not 7+!

Well, they call it St Paul’s papers when St Paul’s never posted their past papers on their website. So I wouldn’t trust EPP in this respect.

We are at a preprep were all told that these specific pretend papers are often 9+ levels and some copying 11+ past papers and nowhere near the real exams. I can definutely see why EPP do it though. It makes you buy more papers obviously!

It’s one thing having their practice papers being difficult and saying this is what you can expect…

Another thing to claim you have an ACTUAL Kings paper from an actual Kings exam. I agree, that non-fiction text is very very advanced for a 6/7 year old.

Those taking the KCS exam on Saturday - what’s the plan for this last week - are you taking it easy or still plan to work on few things ? I’m in double minds clearly!

Caps0218 · 06/10/2024 19:02

We will take it easy, perhaps reasoning and a little maths. Can’t see the benefit of comprehension at this stage, nor story.

We’ll do 1 paper daily. Rest day on Friday!

One paper of what 2minutesplease ? I’m also planning a rest day on Friday (maybe Thursday also or just keeping it light touch then )

of something. For example - maths today, comprehension tomorrow, composition on Wednesday…
By the way, does someone find EPP dictations extremely fast? I can keep up with the speed but definitely not my younger son. I remember we practiced a lot with my older one and he eventually managed to write down everything. But not the younger!

good luck to our boys on Saturday!

Caps0218 · 07/10/2024 11:17

The dictation is fast, personally think too fast.
This thread is pretty quiet compared to previous years....I wonder if there are less applicants....

San2023 · 07/10/2024 12:11

We are also appearing on Saturday for KCS. I think overall EPP is bit on the harder side. EPP claims consistent 75% scoring should be good. I wonder if that is possible in each subject consistently. How much EPP actually mimic the standard of really exam? Any one has idea?

Caps0218 · 07/10/2024 12:52

I wonder if they make them tricky, so parents keep buying etc....
I think 75% on Reasoning and Maths is not too bad, however on comprehension is not so easy consistently at least. I would be surprised if the comprehension was as difficult as the EPP ones.
