For anyone interested.. the raw scores required for an age expected score (100 and above scaled score) are on this link, published today

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1087928/2022_key_stage_2_scaled_score_tables.pdf

The Reading paper was down to 24 out of 50 raw score for a age expected .. that definitely lower than previous years.. backs up the feedback that it was a challenging paper. Waiting for my sons results from school later this week..

My DS got GD in all areas (just) with no tutoring and just some home practice for a month. Going state non selective school. But loads in his school did exams for private or neighbouring grammars. I expect they all got GD as most tutored for months at vast expense. I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Just out of interest how many DC who achieved 110+ scores are going to grammar schools?
DD achieved over 110 for all but she is going private secondary and had some tutoring Sept-Jan for the entrance exam.
She may or may not have achieved those scores anyway without the tutoring but I'm just interested to see if there is a theme.

If you look at the statistics, most of the grammar school (esp in high selective grammar area) will have majority student profile with prior attainment - Ks2 SAT at greater depth level. The selective criteria has high correlations, 11+ just happened before SAT.

I do think any form of tutor prep for 11+ (DIY home practice exam paper or with paid or unpaid tutor) will help achieve higher score at SAT test. In fact for London grammar or independent selective the attainment level required is way over the KS2 level.

But how much the 11+ prep help is a difficult question, probably low 110s with tutoring help can be >115+ or 120?

My child achieved 118,120 & 120 and was nowhere near the mark required to get into the London grammar school which he applied for, which is super selective. No tutoring, however, I did practice with him.

5childrenand · 16/07/2023 09:27

No tutoring for my dd with her full set of 120s but we do bits and bobs at home. She’s off to a state comprehensive (that’s the system round us).

DuckBushCityLimit · 16/07/2023 09:30

No tutoring here. DD got 120, 115, 114 and GDS in writing. Going to a comprehensive. Did sit for the local super selective but didn't pass.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/07/2023 09:32

Wow, the standard at some of those schools must be so high. No wonder so many of the parents of DD's classmates who did sit entrance exams seemed so stressed at the time!

Mingomang · 16/07/2023 09:32

DS got 118,119 and 120 but I can’t remember which was which now - think 118 was the reading paper, 120 in spag and 119 in maths.
He is going to a SS London grammar and has tutoring although that finished in November obviously

MissPop · 16/07/2023 09:36

My DD got the expected standard in maths and English, but got working towards for her reading. A score of 98. She was a little disappointed about that.

Piyo · 16/07/2023 09:49

No grammars around here, but glad about that. Dd got
comp 120
spag 117
maths 114

she was scoring 105/6 on maths for ages but really pulled it out the bag. No tutoring.

My son is off to grammar but still waiting on our end of year report and to see if they tell us anything relating to SATs, so I shall let you know

blacknredsweeties · 16/07/2023 10:26

Mine got 97 98 98 is that bad? What are the raw scores? Never heard of that. The letter said 100 is where they should be.

blacknredsweeties · 16/07/2023 10:30

We did 0 revision. She asked for all of the books but as predicted did not use them. She does not read or write at home. She actually really hates it.

blacknredsweeties · 16/07/2023 10:31

Dd13 didn't do them due to Covid. However she is dyslexic.

blacknredsweeties · 16/07/2023 10:31

I felt ok with those scores until I came in here.

They're all so young yet, and have got plenty of time left to find their passions. I'm not a teacher, but I don't think SATs are much of a predictor of future success. They didn't even do them when I was at school!

takemetothespace · 16/07/2023 10:39

my daughter achieved 112 in reading, 117 in Maths, & 120 in SPAG. DD is going to grammar school.

TeenDivided · 16/07/2023 10:42

@blacknredsweeties Scores just under 100 mean they are on track to be borderline GCSE grades 3/4. So you have warning now that unless she 'picks up' in secondary she may need extra help to get those passes.

Maybe some bribery to do reading and writing at home?

HollyGolightly4 · 16/07/2023 10:42

Secondary schools are measured against them in terms of the progress students make for GCSES, so the higher the grades in sats, the higher their GCSE targets will be. It's often an average of reading and maths, not target for English v target for maths!

Trinity69 · 16/07/2023 10:48

Am I the only one who feels that because my DD scored below 100 and has not met the standard for all SATs that the school is at fault? I have past history with the school as they failed my son miserably and lied about his levels year after year, until I finally found a teacher who didn’t, so I’m wondering if that playing a part in my bad feeling towards them. I’m pleased my daughter did her best and am happy with the work she did but can’t help but feel school have let her down.

I've no just idea what a 3/4 is. She won't read. She hates it. She is on a waiting list for an ADHD assessment. She

spanieleyes · 16/07/2023 10:57

Well, the school may be at fault but then again, it may just be that your child isn't working at the expected level, around 30% of the children aren't.

That's what I thought, so it does possibly skew the SATS results

takemetothespace · 16/07/2023 11:11

I don't see the point of tutoring mentioning here, the way the schools are affected by strikes and teacher shortages, tutoring has helped many children to achieve good SAT results.

TeenDivided · 16/07/2023 11:17

@blacknredsweeties
GCSE grade 3 is a fail (or rather a Level 1 pass not a Level 2 one)
GCSE grade 4 is a pass. You need to get a 4 in English Language and Maths to not have to retake them in college.

GCSEs are designed so about 30% fail. You want to try to avoid your DC being in that 30%.

Insecure maths impacts maths and science to some extent.
Insecure English impacts everything (even maths due to wordier questions).
