For anyone interested.. the raw scores required for an age expected score (100 and above scaled score) are on this link, published today

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1087928/2022_key_stage_2_scaled_score_tables.pdf

The Reading paper was down to 24 out of 50 raw score for a age expected .. that definitely lower than previous years.. backs up the feedback that it was a challenging paper. Waiting for my sons results from school later this week..

As you can see our school is still using greater depth language

SATS results

Similarly, national percentages have been released for at standard ( reading is 73%maths 73%, GPS 72%) but no greater depth percentages

TeenDivided · 11/07/2023 20:06

I'm sharing my DDs results from the first year of these Sats to add balance for other parents. She got 100, 97 & 96.
Not everyone gets 110+.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 11/07/2023 20:11

My DS with SEN/Autism who struggled and worked hard all year got 97, 100, 100.

I’m so proud of him!!

I worked hard to get the right interventions in place for him with countless meetings with SENDCo.

Just hope Secondary are easy to work with.

spanieleyes · 11/07/2023 20:11

@TeenDivided

Nope, 28% of children don't reach the "magical" 100, but they work bloody hard to get wherever they do! All our children have done the very best they can, the year 6 staff sat around pouring over the results and there were as many 'that's brilliant, she's worked her socks off' for children scoring 86 as for those scoring 116!

nannyl · 11/07/2023 20:35

This year and from now on there is no longer "greater depth"

Everyone is either working towards or expected.

a child with 120 / 120 / 120 is now graded as expected.

(same for EYFS, there is no longer any criteria for exceeding.... you are either there, or you are not)

They have removed the catagory..... no idea why?

(I work in a school and my DD has just bought home her report and SATs results today. Horrified to see "expected" when she has been GDS for everything ever.... I've had to explain that she has a GD score but that catagory has now gone)

Role on Summer holiday tomorrow

In my school, less than 50% get 100 or above. Mainly EAL, refugees, high SEN, high Pupil Premium. However, progress is outstanding!

Iamnotthe1 · 11/07/2023 20:56

"Greater Depth" is still in use, though it's often referred to as "the higher standard" as well. If schools are using auto-generated letters from their information system, they will only list expected or not because that's the data input they've had. They'd have to manually create the letters going home in order to include details on greater depth or on children who are pre-key stage. Some schools don't do this because they don't have to.

As spanieleyes said, the official greater depth / higher score data won't come out until after the holidays but it's always 110.

EYFS changed to just be early learning goals met or not met several years ago. KS1 is still working below / towards / at / greater depth.

Isitthathardtobekind · 11/07/2023 21:29

@CherryMaple
They don’t release the greater depth standardised score (reading/maths/GPS) until September time. Previously it’s been 110 but is not confirmed each year until later. Therefore many schools will send out Expected or not met and not include greater depth because officially they have not been given the score to meet GDS.

Writing is different- the teachers assess that themselves against the TAF. They award greater depth/Expected standard/working towards or a pre-key stage standard.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 11/07/2023 21:33

We got given sats results with reports today.
DS got 113/119/117 and for all 3 it says ‘working at greater depth within the expected standard’

Then underneath it says
To reach the expected standard in each test subject a pupil must achieve a scaled score of 100 or more. A score of 110+ is regarded as greater depth.

BHRK · 11/07/2023 21:59

DS got 114 in everything and school wrote greater depth

Thank you!

It’s nice to see children excelling but not all children do. Some just scrape by but that’s okay!

Piyo · 11/07/2023 22:56

111 and above I think is greater depth.

very pleased with the scores for my child, but also very aware that it is a narrow academic measure and doesn’t reflect every child well. Especially those with other needs.

Iamnotthe1 · 12/07/2023 06:44

It's 110.

"Working Below" relates to children who were assessed using pre-Key Stage standards rather than the exam or children whose scores were too low to convert to scales scores.

"Working Towards" relates to scaled scores between 80 - 99.

"Working At" relates to scaled scores of between 100 - 109

"Greater Depth" relates to 110 - 120.

It's also worth noting that the scaled scores don't rise in standard steps so, for example, the gap between 100 and 109 can be much wider than the gap between 110 and 120, especially in Maths.

Heartfullofcheese · 12/07/2023 06:58

The “pass mark” for the reading paper has dropped 5 marks from last year and even so, the percentage of children at expected nationally is lower than last year.
This is probably the closest we will get to an admission that the paper was unfair. There were deliberate traps and unclear questions. Still fuming about it. They shouldn’t be trying to trip 11 year olds up.

BHRK · 12/07/2023 09:43

Yes the reading paper was just awful

Didiplanthis · 12/07/2023 16:25

I'm just as proud of DT with 102 as I am of DT with 120 . DT 1 has struggled so much with anxiety related to his ASD this year and just sitting in the classroom has been challenging. Interestingly he is actually just as bright if not brighter than his brother... so scores don't tell it all !

Feenie · 12/07/2023 21:10

They haven’t ‘removed’ it - as previous posters have explained.

To give you some hope, my DD got quite a bit below 80 across the board in her SATS. Primary was a painful fight to get SEN provision. Secondary has been far better and she's just got 5s and 6s in her Y10 mocks (8 GCSEs). Based on her sats, she was predicted 1s and 2s in Y7!

There isn’t a scaled score below 80. The scale goes from 80 - 120.

Aww bless her and well done to your DD!

I am very optimistic - I’m hoping he gets good GCSEs and hopefully have more opportunities later with what he wants to do.

Children change and develop at such different rates - it’s unfair to stigmatise them based on these tests.

Ahh amazing, my son has autism and got 96,96 & 92. I know already he walked out the reading exam as I was called to collect him but super proud regardless.

Well our year6 results were pretty much in line with expectations and our overall % has gone up from last year.
