8+ Entry 2023 - WUS, CC, KCJS ,sussex house

Dear Mumsnetters,

My son is sitting 8+, so I thought I start one to share our experiences and support each other.
We are waiting for WUS and sussex house results, fingers crossed. He will be doing CC tomorow.

Just had the email! My son is through to the interview stage. I can’t believe it, I’ve been so nervous the whole day😀Good luck to everyone’s little ones.

I’m sorry to hear about your son, it’s a tough process and they are still so young to have coped with all the exams.

Does anyone know how many ppl are through to SPJ 2nd round? Is it similar to the 60 invited to WUS? Curious on WUS interviewing all candidates on the same day but SPJ is spreading the 2nd round over 3 days

my ds is through round 2 of both
he got through round 2 of both at 7+ as well

What should we expect in the 8+ interview stage at WUS? Seems a rather long 4 hour session. Assume there are written exams in the classroom session? We are not from a prep school and feeling a bit lost, so any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

I am new to this process, but from what I’ve read and the email it seems like it’s a class room lesson (maybe maths and English) and then a group activity or two and then the interview.

7PlusPP1234 what was the second round of 7+ like?

Not comparable I think . Last year they were there for 2 hours , now 4 hours . There was an English lesson , activity with Lego , activity with maps / atlas , mental maths in 2 hours last year . This year I think they will have all of the above in longer sessions & some thing else plus lunch plus play in the ground.

Plus interview with a group of boys plus questions about the book happened last year

When does the Sussex house result come out?

Wishing everyone good luck for results this week and to hang in there. I know how tough it can be, the waiting period. A friend of mine's son will have his last 8+ interview at SPS tomorrow and she can't wait for it to be over. Anyone in the same boat?

Hello Shehr, I think Sussex is sending letters instead of emails. We received one this morning. My son is on the waiting list.

DS is sitting SPJ 11+ but the interview is very different from 13+ and so little information on the secondary school section. It includes a 3-hour assessment section, may I ask, would it be similar to the 7+ or 8+ assessment at SPJ? If so, what is it about? What do the boys need to do and what do you think they are looking for?

My son had his second round at SPJ this week, and now I’m nervously waiting. Although, I must say the staff there are so kind and welcoming (didn’t stop me being a nervous wreck) I keep thinking of things I should have said when speaking to the head.
