Dear Mumsnetters,

My son is sitting 8+, so I thought I start one to share our experiences and support each other.
We are waiting for WUS and sussex house results, fingers crossed. He will be doing CC tomorow.
Good luck to everyone who is going through the exams!

Not at spj or WUS

We finally got an offer from sussex house today :) I was wondering if there is any sussex house parent here who knows a company who could deliver pack lunch to school everyday.

G21 - did your ds get spj offer ?

G21 · 07/03/2023 15:27

7PlusPP1234 We’re still on the waitlist, but I’m staying positive after hearing about your son and mamabea123 coming off the waitlist.

St Paul’s have been really lovely though, we’ll be talking to them about 11+ should my son not come off the waitlist.

congratulations to you both, you must be so happy!! 🙂

7PlusPP1234 · 07/03/2023 18:32

cassie0207 · 11/03/2023 12:31

Hey dear mums, congrats to all who got through the 8 plus this year. My son sat for 7 plus but couldn’t get through. Partially as I thought we took it lightly and underestimated the exam level. I thought I will plan it better this time but we both are in full time work and husband is slightly keener on 11plus. Any pointers on how to prepare kids for this exam will be of great help. My son is good in maths but may be lazy when it comes to English and story writing part. I know it’s controversial but I might need outside help to motivate him a little on English given we have only 6 months left and he takes his teacher seriously than Mommy 😕. Thanks in advance !

8Plusmom · 12/03/2023 13:55

Depends on which school you are currently in? I was in similar situation so can help.

if you want your son to have a packed lunch, why don't you just send it with him in the morning?

Pbhar · 24/11/2023 23:45

Hi @cassie0207 , My DS going through the exact same. He sat for 7+ but couldnt get through WUS and KCJS ( he did clear the written assessment). I think we took 7+ lightly and underestimated the levels. It would be helpful to know your thoughts on 8+ and whether its worth going through the 8+ journey with such limited numbers intake. Also if anyone could share the insights of preparation required for 8+ intake.

8Plusmom · 25/11/2023 12:08

It’s worth doing 8+ if you have already prepared for 7+ and was invited for interviews. It seems to be lot more easier and kids go more confident. Can’t say so much about kcjs but certainly for wus they know the kids that are back for 8+. There is no preference but I would say in interviews they try to evaluate what’s changed.

Pbhar · 25/11/2023 16:02

Thanks @8Plusmom , that’s encouraging. From my experience of 7+ I feel that bond and CGP books [ i imagine 8-9 level for 8+] epp practice papers are the key. Creative writing will need special focus for 8+. Is there any other advice that anyone can share from their 8+ experience

8Plusmom · 25/11/2023 16:42

Schofield and sim and bond ks2 books, can I suggest just 1 hour (max. Per day) do not force the kid to prep for it because after you get to these schools it’s a daily effort at that level so if the kid is not able to do the prep work then don’t force it, not worth it!
