Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

DD waitlisted at two schools…does City waitlist ever move?

Waitlist1234 · 01/02/2022 08:59

Thanks @2minutesplease

Waitlist1234 · 01/02/2022 09:01

Are latymer results expected today?

muminwood · 01/02/2022 09:55

Yes. They will be sending it through the day via email.

swgeek · 01/02/2022 10:01

@Nervousfranticmom in past years City WL did move but this year I guess all bets are off - normally schools have a good idea of their usual acceptance rates and so on but with their changes, I doubt they can predict exactly how they will rank vs other 7+ schools, it's a new game now. Fingers crossed for you.

Nervousfranticmom · 01/02/2022 10:13

@swgeek thank you so much! This wait list game is a real torture :(

7plus11plus · 01/02/2022 10:15

City wait list will move. I know it because I heard many people who got multiple offers will choose other schools over city.

Nervousfranticmom · 01/02/2022 10:17

@7plus11plus I hope you are right. Thank you so much!

swgeek · 01/02/2022 10:18

@7plus11plus schools know especially the top candidates always have multiple offers, that is why all schools (with the exception of the ones with extremely high acceptance rates like NLCS or WUS) over-offer, The waiting lists only move if more people than expected decline their places. So there is never a guarantee. What one would assume is that due to the uncertainty in the case of City this year, they may have been conservative with their offers, in which case the WL will move. But they may have also kept a longer than usual WL, which means there will be many on the WL who will never get a place. We shall find out soon!

7plus11plus · 01/02/2022 10:34

@swgeek Yes you are absolutely right. There is an uncertainty but it was a well known problem that CLSG prep couldn’t get enough girls in the past. I have a few friends there. It’s the location problem for a prep school. In comparison SHHS WL hardly move as all Hampstead mums want that school. They will drop City as they always do. Let’s just keep fingers crossed for those on the WL.

7plus11plus · 01/02/2022 10:39

My point is, City is not very difficult to get in as you may think. And they almost always have occasional places in every year. If you really want to get in there, you will.

Nervousfranticmom · 01/02/2022 11:12

Really appreciate all your responses. Fingers and toes crossed, will keep you all posted if we hear back.

puzzledmom · 01/02/2022 11:30

Has anyone done research on Co-educational vs single sex education? It's an ongoing debate in our house at the moment so wondering if anyone has any views? Thanks

Surfermum40 · 01/02/2022 11:57

@puzzledmom same debate and discussion all through the weekend. We will be turning down City, UCS and Habs as we prefer DS going to a co-ed school. We are still waiting to hear from Latymer and will eventually decide between Highgate and Latymer (we are happy to move). Towards the end we felt that an all rounded education included the sense of much needed awareness of the opposite gender as opposed to knowing them for 2 years before university. Lots of research available online. A couple did mention single sex school students tend to outperform initially but no solid evidence in later years of schooling. If however I had a DD I would be choosing the correct co Ed school to avoid gender stereotypes in choosing subjects.

7plus11plus · 01/02/2022 12:46

@Surfermum40 “If however I had a DD I would be choosing the correct co Ed school to avoid gender stereotypes in choosing subjects.”

We have a DD. We turned down Highgate for the exact reason you stated here.

berrymummy · 01/02/2022 14:17

What do you think is a good coed schools that don’t encourage gender stereotyping? Latymer prep ? Not many academic ones

Surfermum40 · 01/02/2022 14:35

Latymer prep offers are out. Another few days of debate!

puzzledmom · 01/02/2022 14:35

Latymer email came out. DS on waiting list again

puzzledmom · 01/02/2022 14:36

Thanks everyone for your views on coed va single sex. Thankfully decision is out of our hands

Amarzoo · 01/02/2022 15:15

Please could I ask for views on city Vs Bute Vs latymer for dd ? Many thanks.

muminwood · 01/02/2022 16:28

Depends on if you’re happy to go through the 11+ process at Bute. Between city and Latymer my personal preference is Latymer hands down. Fantastic school and teachers, pastoral care, great academics, grounds and sport facilities. The transition from prep to Upper school is really smooth and the vibe in general felt extremely positive and open. The girls who we spoke to were phenomenal. A very diverse mix just like city and few students also come over from the south of the river so not necessarily a very local crowd.

berrymummy · 01/02/2022 16:54

We have a latymerprep place for DD but not sure if it’s the best fit for our daughter will be asking to go and see the school again. Muminwood do you know anyone with children there?

muminwood · 01/02/2022 18:09

@berrymummy yes. DS has been offered a place today for 7+ and we are considering taking it. Spoken to two sets of parents (friends of friends) from the Upper school as we don’t want DS to sit 11+ (hopefully!) and wanted views on Latymer Upper.

Berrymummy · 01/02/2022 18:45

@muminwood Can I PM you ?

muminwood · 01/02/2022 18:48

@Berrymummy sure
