Primary admissions 2018

Is there an anxiously awaiting primary school places thread yet?
One week to go and it’s all I can think about. We are on Easter holidays from pre school and it’s going so so slow waiting.
Does anyone know what time we find out?

Intherose you'll be on the waiting list in the order of priority not preference or when you signed up.
So if you ask to go on the waiting list for your first choice next week but no spaces come up till June, then if someone has applied since who has a sibling at the school, they may get the space instead of you.
On the other hand if you apply and get that space and the sibling doesn't come along till August, they can't bump you.

twelveangels · 10/04/2018 21:42

Thanks all, so if I understand correctly you can be on multiple waiting lists?

drspouse · 10/04/2018 21:48

Yup!

InTheRoseGarden · 10/04/2018 21:59

drspouse what if there are spaces though - i.e. no waiting list - at a school you would like to choose instead of the one you've been allocated? Do you just phone up and ask for one and it is allocated on the spot or is there e.g. a period in which people can put their names forward and then at the end of the period the over subscription criteria is applied if there are fewer spaces than applicants?

drspouse · 10/04/2018 22:01

Yes if you didn't put it down but now want a space you can have one if it's unsubscribed.
They won't close the spaces unless the school is full. Just as if when you move house you can have a space at any time if there is one.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 10/04/2018 22:20

Thanks @liquidrevolution just managed to find it (they don't make it easy!) but still 2017. Worth a look though!

Essexgirlupnorth · 10/04/2018 22:56

Apparently goes up on our councils site about 12:30 thought not to stressed as we have been attending church to get Dd into one of the two local CofE primaries though we hadn't attended enough for our first choice but form was signed by vicar after applications closed so should be on to a sure thing but just want to know now so can start planning before and after school care and booking school holidays off

liquidrevolution · 11/04/2018 09:56

Ah for all those in West Berks getting excited about our sneak preview. They have cottoned on and removed it. I do have it saved on my desktop though so feel free to pm me.

HumptyD93 · 11/04/2018 14:56

Good luck to you all awaiting your allocations. I remember the worry and anxiety when waiting to hear for my eldest. I put our closest school as our last choice as it is pretty bad (I was considering homeschooling if we were offered this one). My 1st choice was over a mile away, small, good and oversubscribed, So I didn't hold out much hope. By some miracle we got into our 1st choice.... (we were the last on the list of who got in!!!) so don't give up hope x x

Allosaurusroar · 11/04/2018 19:37

So if we’re not happy on Monday the first thing should be to contact admissions and ask to be put on the waiting lists for the schools we want? And accept the offer we get in the meantime.

I’ve heard a couple of people saying this is a low birth year but not sure how true this is or it’s just wishful thinking!

Hmm we are really unsure what to do. Have applied for mainstream schools via the normal system for DS but in the process of getting an EHCP and will probably go into specialist provision. Not sure whether to accept place or wait til we have more of an idea of when the EHCP will be published ....

Donna1605 · 11/04/2018 20:40

Always accept your choice- even if you do not want it- otherwise you may lose it and then you may not be offered another place :)
Good luck all in their allocations! Hopefully you all will get your first choices!
Hopefully people who 'work the system' won't take up peoples places who actually qualify rightly! xx

Bobbybobbins · 11/04/2018 20:49

Good advice thanks

Applesandpears23 · 11/04/2018 20:50

I’m a bit nervous about the school and very nervous about getting before and after school care sorted out. That’s what I will be doing next week!

MrsHathaway · 11/04/2018 21:04

That's usually best, Allosaur, but check your LA's published information because you may automatically be placed on the waiting list for schools you listed higher than the one you got, and there may be different procedures depending on whether it's an academy or not, etc.

It's not usually worthwhile appealing unless you think there's been a procedural error (e.g. if our neighbour gets in and we don't, as we have a sibling link and she doesn't so we should be in a higher criterion band).

afrikat · 11/04/2018 21:36

Very nervous here! None of the 3 we put down are catchment schools.
Desperately hoping we get our top choice

Allosaurusroar · 11/04/2018 21:59

I’d love to even have a catchment school just to have that safe option. It’s so stressful. I just want to know now though so I can start pointing out his school as we drive past and know who he will be going with etc.

drspouse · 11/04/2018 22:10

Don't worry if you end up being in limbo. We told DS he was going to the red school or the blue school and it was only a couple of months before we found out we had a place at (as it turns out) the red school.

JessicaPeach · 11/04/2018 22:26

Im nervous too, i've gone for a CofE aided school which is out of catchment but in past years we would have got in on distance and number of spaces. We had a letter from our vicar too which has bumped us up a few places on the list of criteria. They are massively oversubscribed this year though. Im remaining hopeful because of the letter but feeling nervous all the same. I keep telling myself that being oversubscribed doesnt really mean much if people havent necessarily put much thought into their applications and applied from way out of catchment etc as we would have been ahead of them on distance anyway. Its going to be a long night on sunday!

coldlocation · 11/04/2018 22:30

God luck to you all. My PFB ended up in a cohort where 350 kids in our city were not offered any school place! It was a 'mare but it did all eventually pan out ok

iheartfriday · 12/04/2018 12:44

Is there any chance the London schools will be sent out before 5.30 does anybody know?!

QueenOfMyWorld · 12/04/2018 12:55

Does anyone know if there is a time that we find out via e mail or is it just throughout the selected day? I live in s Yorks

drspouse · 12/04/2018 13:50

Queen it depends on your LEA. I got an email from ours saying "during the working day" and "wait a full day before emailing us". But I know it varies by area too.

MrKaplansGlasses · 12/04/2018 14:14

@SugarMice, we're in exactly the same position as you. My DD1 didn't get into my first choice school and I was devastated at the time but it turned out to be a really good thing. Now if DD2 doesn't get in to school with her sister, I don't know what Ill do. DH just keeps saying "no point in stressing about it" but I can't help it!
