Is there an anxiously awaiting primary school places thread yet?
One week to go and it’s all I can think about. We are on Easter holidays from pre school and it’s going so so slow waiting.
Does anyone know what time we find out?

In my area it's mon 16th April is anyone finding out on this day too? I'm bricking it

SquirmOfEels · 10/04/2018 16:02

16th April is National Offers Day, so everyone in England will find out about reception offers then, though at different times of day, depending on their council's policy.

London/Surrey are the latest (live on website form 5pm, emails sent out in the evenin)

Hersetta427 · 10/04/2018 16:07

Queen, your DS1 situation should have no bearing on your DC2's application - your application is dealt with by the local authority who won't even be aware of the situation with your DS1. Sounds like you should have no issue getting your 1st choice on distance (bven if you didn't have a sibling place to fall back on).

InTheRoseGarden · 10/04/2018 16:11

Lovely Charmatt, thanks.

I am one of those nutters Hersetta! I didn't get a chance to finish saying earlier that my third preference - even though not my catchment school - is a safe bet: he'd have got in most of the past 5 years and they have just this year increased the intake. It's a safer bet than my catchment school. There's also a school that usually has spaces that I would prefer to my catchment school.

Queen I could be wrong but I thought everyone finds out on Monday: "National Allocation Day". I will be staying up NYE style Smile

Hersetta427 · 10/04/2018 16:15

No Rose it doesn't sound like you are a nutter at all - you have a safe choice school on your application that would have secured you a place most years. sounds like you did your homework and researched where you are likely to get a place and are being realistic.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 10/04/2018 16:22

Another anxiously waiting here!!
If we don't get first choice we are going to be in huge difficulties with before school care. Not in catchment though and no siblings. Have put catchment school down but would rather we didn't have to go there (ironically it's a "desirable" school that many go to lengths to get into).

MrsHathaway · 10/04/2018 16:28

What meditrina said: accept the offered place even if you don't want it.

This is our third time round so there's only mild panic (catchment sibling) - did DH in fact press submit properly on the online application? but we're very interested to see who of his pfb classmates at preschool will be joining him. It's the lowest sibling cohort for years - usually 20-24/30 but apparently 12/30 this time - but there's >40 first preference and >90 for 30 PAN so there will still be lots of disappointed parents.

thousandpapercranes · 10/04/2018 16:36

All my choices are in the next county 50 miles away. What are my chances? Probably close to nil. Confused For various reasons we can’t move into new area until around June so here’s hoping dd2 gets into my preferred school and then dd1 can go into the waiting list for a Yr2 place.

Eminybob · 10/04/2018 16:43

Our first choice is going to be a bit of a logistical nightmare now that I have found out I’m pregnant as there are no nurseries anywhere near it. And bloody dh doesn’t drive. So I will have to drop off in 2 completely different directions.
That said, I still feel 100% that it is the right school choice for ds, it is just perfect and I knew that the minute I walked in to the building.
Our other 2 choices would be logistically easier but much bigger schools which worries me for my introvert ds.
None of my choices are my catchment school, which is about 30 seconds round the corner from me, because it’s shit, and doesn’t have any after school provision which is vital for us. So it would be a disaster if we ended up with that one.

HateSummer · 10/04/2018 16:50

I’m quite nervous, excited, happy...a lot of emotions. We’re just outside the catchment area for the school dc1 and 2 attend. This is my last baby going off to school! I’ve obviously put down dc’s school as first choice and our actual catchment area school as second choice. No third choice. This year group isn’t supposed to be big like the 2007-2008’s and 2012-2013’s were. Hopefully she’ll get in with her brother and sister!

InTheRoseGarden · 10/04/2018 16:54

How many stay on the waiting list beyond the start of the school year? I was wondering whether I could get DS into true first preference school (massively oversubscribed and we're way too far away) by being prepared to move him after having started at the allocated school. The trouble is that I'm not sure I would want to once he's settled (which is presumably what everyone thinks)!

liquidrevolution · 10/04/2018 17:31

West Berks have put up their annual spreadsheet which show the places allocated, no on waiting list and rule for last placed already!

Officially I have to wait until email comes on Monday morning but since my first and second choices show spaces I am confident we have got what we want. I daren't tell any of the mums I know in case I either get it wrong or ruin the surprise...

drspouse · 10/04/2018 17:49

How many stay on the waiting list beyond the start of the school year?

Most don't - we were prepared to do this with DS as we really wanted our preferred school - but we got our place there in June thankfully.

We do live in quite a high mobility area though.

MrsPussinBoots · 10/04/2018 18:23

I feel sick every time I think about it. We live approx 700m away from the closest school and last year the limit was 631m. I'd be really happy with my second choice which was undersubscribed last year (and is miles away) but apparently it's full this year. I'll be staying up until midnight to find out.

MrsHathaway · 10/04/2018 18:36

RoseGarden - in DC1's class there were three changes in early September. To be fair, they don't start full time generally, and in the case of two of those children the school they would have gone to had staggered start (youngest to oldest) so they hadn't actually set foot in the other school before they started late at ours.

It depends why the movement - here there's little geographical movement so it's mainly people holding on to state places just in case, and they're all suddenly released once the private school fees are safely paid.

DC1's class dropped two children to emigration late in y4 and those places were immediately taken by children on the waiting list, but I very much doubt they'd been waiting five years.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 10/04/2018 18:41

@liquidrevolution what did you search to find that info? Would be interested to see if my LA has anything similar!

twelveangels · 10/04/2018 19:32

Does anyone know if they do 'first' and 'second' rounds? So another offer day closer to September to offer out declined places? Or does it simply move day by day after 16 April as the waiting list moves?

Hersetta427 · 10/04/2018 19:43

Twelve angels.yes they do - in fact they do at least two. If someone declines a place, it goes to the person who is number one on their waiting list who then will be able to give up their allocated place which will free up a place t that school and so it goes on.

Katkin14 · 10/04/2018 19:48

I have everything crossed for our first choice for DS. A lovely little single intake school, where he’ll thrive. Unfortunately, between making our minds up and admissions closing they got their first ofsted and it was fantastic. The last couple of years since it opened it’s been undersubscribed, but now it feels like the cat is out of the bag.

drspouse · 10/04/2018 20:00

It moves day by day twelve. If you have a space they will ring you ASAP.

InTheRoseGarden · 10/04/2018 20:27

If there is space at a school after the first round of offers, is it offered first come first served to any that want it?

InTheRoseGarden · 10/04/2018 20:28

Oh thank you drspouse and mrshathaway!

Tiredemma · 10/04/2018 20:35

I'm stressed to hell about this! Just want to know now.

liquidrevolution · 10/04/2018 20:40

@SheStoodintheRain I just went to the primary admission info page and there is a link for the primary allocations 2017 but if you open it is is for 2018 (and the numbers are different to the one I printed in the Autumn when doing the application).

SugarMiceInTheRain · 10/04/2018 20:49

Ridiculously anxious here. Applied to an out of catchment school attended by sibling, however loads of houses have been built in catchment since I don't think we have a good chance of getting it. Second choice is also out of catchment but at least is next to the high school DC1 attends. If we don't get either I will home educate as our catchment school is dire and logistically I can't pick up from 3 geographically spread out schools within 15 minutes. Fingers crossed...
