Primary admissions 2018

Is there an anxiously awaiting primary school places thread yet?
One week to go and it’s all I can think about. We are on Easter holidays from pre school and it’s going so so slow waiting.
Does anyone know what time we find out?

Magma, Camden is London admissions and so won't be available until 5pm.

Hersetta427 · 16/04/2018 12:13

Amy, no if you get a place from the waiting list then it is yours, even if someone moves into the area who would have been higher up the admission list than you - unless they offered you the place in error and then technically they can withdraw an offer if it was made incorrectly.

InTheRoseGarden · 16/04/2018 12:23

First choice here but ridiculously now have doubts and want to change to second choice which is usually massively oversubscribed except for this year. Hmm

QuilliamCakespeare · 16/04/2018 12:30

Thanks @Hersetta427 and @drspouse

drspouse · 16/04/2018 12:35

No amy once you've accepted it it's your place.

If you are that close you will probably be high up on the waiting list. You can ask the school where you are.

InTheRose you can still go on that waiting list if you want.

Thundercracker · 16/04/2018 12:40

SheSells Surrey is the same system as London so don't keep logging in to check, go out and enjoy the sun - there will be nothing until after 5pm

MagnaWiles · 16/04/2018 12:43

Thank you @Hersetta427 -- I didn't realise!

afrikat · 16/04/2018 12:54

We got our first choice which was such a relief as we didn't apply for our catchment school so was a gamble

DrDreReturns · 16/04/2018 12:58

drspouse I went through a two tier system myself so the concept of a middle school is a bit weird to me!
Fortunately DDs sibling will always be in the same school as the one she needs to apply to, but if there was a larger age group between them there would be an issue.

amyacq84 · 16/04/2018 13:03

Thanks for the reassurance I just spoke to admissions as well and asked how much movement there tends to be and she said there was quite a lot and it's a 90 intake school so fingers crossed for round one of waiting list

DailyMailFail101 · 16/04/2018 13:07

we are so lucky, just been offered our first choice even though there are two primary schools closer!

MrsHathaway · 16/04/2018 13:09

One of the resident experts may come along to clarify, but I'm pretty sure from their comments on previous threads that even an erroneously offered place can't be withdrawn after a certain period, maybe a few days?

So say they make an offer in error at 12.30am: if they withdraw it when someone gets into the office at 9am that's one thing, but if they withdraw it in June when the appeals are heard then that's tough luck and they have to honour it.

amyacq84 · 16/04/2018 14:10

DH is talking about deferring entry til next year if DS doesn't get in through the waiting list! I think that's a bit extreme, I'd rather move him mid-year than not put him in at all, and there's no guarantee we wouldn't be in the same boat next year!

Hersetta427 · 16/04/2018 14:14

Won't you be in the same situation though amy - you still wouldn't have a place at your preferred school and you DC would have missed a year of learning.

SpaghettiDinner · 16/04/2018 14:18

We got our first choice as DS as DD is already at the school so the sibling rule was applied.

The school was our second choice when DD was starting and I was disappointed but I think it's worked out for the best in the long term.

drspouse · 16/04/2018 14:22

If you wait till he's CSA (Jan if an Autumn birthday) or till April for all other children, you can stay on the waiting list.
If your DH wants him you go into Reception in Sept 2019 you'll be applying under the same system AND you'll need permission from the school for out of age group admission.
If Y1 you'll be applying in-year and you have no better or worse chances than applying via the waiting list now while starting at another school EXCEPT he'll have missed Reception.

drspouse · 16/04/2018 14:23

That was to amy

amyacq84 · 16/04/2018 14:32

Yeah I think he's just being a bit OTT - I'm happy to move him mid-year if we stay on the waiting list for school choice one.

qumquat · 16/04/2018 14:36

I feel like I can't wait until 5! Wish London wasn't so slow compared to everywhere else!

WhoAteMyCandy · 16/04/2018 14:40

We just got out email 2 hours early. my son got out 3rd choice. I'm a bit sad that he will be leaving his nursery friends behind.

Aloneandscared25 · 16/04/2018 14:48

I am so nervous, London here so after 5 I am pretty sure we won’t get first choice but over that would really really like 2nd choice but 3rd is our most local so think if anything we would get that.

Daughter has multiple health problems but due to screw ups etc we are going throug.l normal allocation echp will come after.

But our borough is the worse when it comes to percentages

52 percent get 1 st choice
67 percent get their top 3
72 percent get their top 6

So I’m really nervous to the point I might cry I think :(

Kidssendingmenuts · 16/04/2018 14:55

We got our place just after midnight first choice! So pleased, I knew she would get in as it's always under subscribed and her brother is there but was still worried. My son started last September and got second choice and was so disheartened, went through appeals process and lost, but it actually worked out for the better as he is learning so much more at the school he is at and he loves it as smaller classes. Xx

MrsHathaway · 16/04/2018 15:00

72 percent get their top 6

Good grief, that's low. Is it well publicised or did you have to seek out the information?

Aloneandscared25 · 16/04/2018 15:13

It’s based on the prediction and trends quite easily located yes. Last year so many people lost out on the top 6.

It’s a highly populated area, thinks 170,000 ish in one borough.
Each school roughly has 30 intake and there is 40 schools across the borough.

GaryWilmotsTeeth · 16/04/2018 15:14

we have to wait until Wednesday in Wales. gah!!
