Where can I buy girls' school shorts that aren't culottes?

I have a tomboy. She's not keen on froufrou culotte shorts. Has anyone seen any school shorts for girls that actually look like shorts?

Marks had some last year.

SuburbanRhonda · 10/04/2016 20:06

Would she not wear trousers?

Scootergrrrl · 10/04/2016 20:06

My tomboy just wore boys shorts. She was especially keen on the Marks and Spencer ones which had pockets on the sides like combat trousers. They were (annoyingly!) cheaper than girls ones too.

kippersyllabub · 10/04/2016 20:10

suburban sure she'll wear trousers but when the weather is hot she prefers shorts.

I buy Dd2 boys plain shorts. She has so. E next girls shorts that I bought on eBay but she prefers the boys ones. I find d I have to go a size down to what I would buy her in girls clothing. (i.e. Dd2 is 7-8 but I would buy her 6-7)

EskSmith · 10/04/2016 20:13

Btw not sure if your dd would go for this but I have just bought Dd2 a gingham playsuit from M&S - I sold it to her as a shorts onesie!!

MsHighwater · 10/04/2016 20:23

Next has these in black and grey.

RufusTheReindeer · 10/04/2016 20:25

My daughter also wore those "boys" combat shorts from M&S

kippersyllabub · 10/04/2016 20:27

In two minds about the play suit as dd could easily be the odd one out but I like the next shorts. Thanks all

My Dd2 wears being the odd one out like a badge of honour but I definitely understand what you mean, Dd1 would never have been the first to wear it!!

GreenMarkerPen · 10/04/2016 20:34

my dd wears the plain shorts in the summer.

EskSmith · 10/04/2016 20:35

Those next shorts are expensive though- plain boys ones from tesco are about £5 for 2

WoodleyPixie · 10/04/2016 20:35

We brought them in m&s, asda, next, Matalan.

MrsPnut · 10/04/2016 20:37

My daughter has the next girls shorts and also a few pairs of the next boys combat ones because they have extra pockets for hiding stuff in to smuggle to school.

Hersetta427 · 11/04/2016 13:27

Thanks for this thread - have just bought DD a couple of gingham playsuits and a gingham dress with a ra ra bottom from Asda.

They did have girls city shorts I noticed too.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2016 13:37

Don't you think those gingham play suits are horribly impractical when going to the toilet? Especially in the grimness that is a school toilet towards the end of the day...

Hersetta427 · 11/04/2016 14:00

DD is a little older and manages playsuits and buttons with no issues so hope she will be fine.

paxillin · 11/04/2016 17:49

Buy boy shorts or make shorts from last years' trousers. Served us well.

Pengweng · 11/04/2016 18:08

M&S have some in grey and black. Just not bloody navy like i need so I'm just buying boys ones.

AndNowItsSeven · 11/04/2016 18:15

Why can't she wear a skirt or a summer dress are shorts part of the girls school uniform. Dd1 was a tomboy but at school she knew she had to wear the same as the other girls?

paxillin · 11/04/2016 18:17

Mine didn't wear skirts, either. Many schools allow girls to wear shorts or trousers.

CodyKing · 11/04/2016 18:59

My DD's both wear shorts in summer - not unusual either!!

Why can't they? Boys do!

eandh · 11/04/2016 19:07

I really hate the phrase tomboy! They are just normally sporty active girls who don't like stereotypically pink girly stuff and are often not fans of skirts..about 30 % of girls at our 3 form intake school wear trousers and then shorts. Asda and Sainsburys etc do girls ones but quite a lot just wear boys shorts - they are just smart shorts surely? Luckily our school doesn't have silly rules about girls wearing skirts
