Where can I buy girls' school shorts that aren't culottes?

I have a tomboy. She's not keen on froufrou culotte shorts. Has anyone seen any school shorts for girls that actually look like shorts?

Sorry shorts under skirts not shirts , that would be weird.

fredfredgeorgejnrsnr · 12/04/2016 12:24

I don't think it's weird to have shorts under shirts - by convention you need something over the top of pants surely?

Related to the general question - Why don't girls school trousers have pockets?

G1raffe · 12/04/2016 12:27

So Ive emailed school asking if my daughter can wear shorts (instead of not as well as a summer dress. I still think thats weird.)

CodyKing · 12/04/2016 12:40

I never asked at school - boys were allowed so I assumed girls were too - they aren't on the list - but nobody ever mentioned it!

paxillin · 12/04/2016 13:15

In our primary school the girls championed it at the school council and are now officially allowed shorts (having been allowed to flout the rule for a while). It was a good exercise in lobbying.

G1raffe · 12/04/2016 13:36

My daughter would be the first I think and at only 7 (infant school) I don't want any issues or her to be the one to have to argue alone!

G1raffe · 12/04/2016 13:37

And I'm not spending money I'm them to find she can't wear them!!

whatamidoinghereanyway · 12/04/2016 13:43

Just ordered these exact things from asda online Smile

islandmummy · 12/04/2016 13:46

I have been searching everywhere for grey skorts for age 5 - can anyone help? My daughter loves her dresses and skirts but blissfully unaware she's flashing her pants (and another question - where to buy knickers with an elasticated gusset that doesn't gape when they sit cross-legged?!). Thank you and sorry for hijacking the thread!

Thank you very much Cody! I was sure I'd checked Asda but I'll order some now! Smile

Islandmummy best pants for not gaping are Boden pricey but worth it. Wash really well as well. Otherwise go for briefs rather than bikinis or short style. Short style are the worst for gaping.

Thank you. We have some Boden ones she's been wearing over winter but they're quite thick so I was looking for some thinner, more breathable ones for summer. I gave up on m&s last year after too many gape-y sets - not even shorts, which I agree are the worst! Debrnhams were ok last year, but as I discovered after buying/washing 2 multipacks recently are gapey this year! The Next frilly-edged ones are good I've found, but stock levels in store are patchy. If anyone knows other places I'd be very grateful!

CodyKing · 12/04/2016 14:57

M&co have lots of elasticated knickers

WakeUpFast · 12/04/2016 15:01

My dd only wears shorts to school. I get them from M&S, they have nice city shorts for girls. This year they have nice buttons on the sides and look very stylish. They wash and tumble dry really well too. We've had one pair for 3 years that still fits her and excellent quality.

smellyboot · 12/04/2016 16:58

That ASDA skort is ace

hazeyjane · 12/04/2016 18:54

I buy boys ones for dds1 and2 - from Tesco. Great fit and very cheap

hazeyjane · 12/04/2016 18:59

Oh and they wear them all year-round with tights under in the winter, and grey socks the summer. They look really smart and are very comfortable

G1raffe · 12/04/2016 20:07

I like the look with tights - my daughter wears shorts with tights out of school but its certainly not part of the current school uniform.

My daughter is in infants but I dont think the junior is different....

smellyboot · 12/04/2016 23:10

Shorts and tights is not uncommon at our school. They do have a policy of any grey bottom and school colour tops tho. Logo stuff is optional too

steppemum · 12/04/2016 23:13

dd wears boys shorts. I buy them from George.
Asda did have some nice girls shorts (plain black, but a better shape as dd is a curvy 10 year old) but she didn't like them, so boys shorts it is.

Also boys shorts have pockets (when will they make girls stuff with pockets!)

G1raffe · 13/04/2016 12:07

Nice email back from school, girls shorts from next obtained (asda don't have them in stock online.) Result :)

G1raffe · 13/04/2016 12:08

My daughter goes up to juniors in September I guess we'll be trailblazers there too.... I think she'd like shorts and tights but happy enough we've started with shorts and socks!

WoodleyPixie · 13/04/2016 14:39

dd's m&s and George shorts have pockets. Haven't looked at the ones from next.

WoodleyPixie · 13/04/2016 14:41

these are dd's favourites, they are a skort though, so look like a skirt from the front, but no pant revealing as she cartwheels through he playground.
