Wondering if schools will have received them yet?

Sorry to invade thread - but I asked earlier and no-one answered. Can sats results be appealed due to an error by the school? Need to know asap.

Big - don't worry. In RL it's not like this (or if it is some parents avoid it).

mrz · 07/07/2015 20:25

Key Stage 2 tests are externally marked. The levels aren't down to the school.

spanieleyes · 07/07/2015 20:26

I can't think of a circumstance when an error by the school would be a reason for appealing a result, it is up to the school to conduct the tests as they should be. If they don't, that is the school's problem, not the NCA's

spanieleyes · 07/07/2015 20:29

I was assuming that perhaps there was an error in the timing allowed or access arrangements were not as they should have been. The error would still be the school's responsibility though and therefore nothing to appeal against. Only an error by the testing authority might give reason for an appeal-not sure what that could be either though!!

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 20:31

I will be appealing the result due to an error by the school which would have had a very large impact on the child's ability to take the test. The high school have confirmed I can do this I just wondered if anyone had done so or knew how?

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 20:36

Sorry - the high school appeared to say that I could, they didn't confirm it. I haven't heard of appealing sats before, but will hopefully able to challenge this properly.

spanieleyes · 07/07/2015 20:38

Schools can appeal results if the marking is in error but I have never heard of a parent appealing the result due to a school error, sorry!

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 20:42

It's not straight forward but this error will have made a large difference to the child's ability. Surely that counts for something? The child could end up two whole levels lower than where they could have been should the school have acted correctly. Don't want to say too much in case it's identifying.

youarekiddingme · 07/07/2015 20:47

So results are in?
As if teachers didn't have enough stress this time of year -all year-- they now have to translate online sats results and add them to reports?

Wine and Cake to all MN teachers.

youarekiddingme · 07/07/2015 20:48

egg as the results are testing the school I expect they'll regret an error if they made one. The results will make no difference to your DC. Most secondary schools so their own testing.

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 20:52

Really, Youare?

I hope so. The high school said I should try and complain as it was such a gross error for the primary school to make. Plus I don't want these crap results (assuming they are) on my DD's record when it's inaccurate.

youarekiddingme · 07/07/2015 20:55

Levels actually only excise for year 2 and 6 this year. Every other year has working towards, met and exceeding expectations (or something similar). They won't even take their 4B or whatever to secondary as a 4B. It will be translated into whatever level system the secondary school has set up.

Feenie · 07/07/2015 20:55

Do you mean not entering a child for level 6 perhaps? That's the only instance I can think of where you might say a school denied your dc the chance of attaining two levels above? Except that would only let them attain one level above, and no, you couldn't appeal it - it's the headteacher's decision.

Feenie · 07/07/2015 20:58

Or not entering your dc for level 3-5? They would shoot themselves in the foot as that child would automatically be counted in the all important level 4+ percentages as not having achieved it.

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 21:02

No I mean a fundamental aspect needed to help my child sit the exam wasn't present - despite documentation proving that it needed to be there. This documentation was collated by healthcare professionals and the school. It is the difference between a level 4/5 and a level 2. School had extra funding to provide this and failed to do so.

The Friday before the exams. Was told everything was in place, when it wasn't.

Feenie · 07/07/2015 21:08

Blimey Shock That sounds like you need to have a chat with these people about a possible case of maladministration then:

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 21:11

I think that's why the high school were backing me to make a complaint. It didn't help that I had an ongoing issues (several actually) with the primary school.

How would I go about complaining? Would I need to ask the school for any information? I vacant imagine they'd be helpful!

EggOnTheFloor · 07/07/2015 21:12

Oh sorry - thank you for the link Feenie! Much appreciated Flowers

Feenie · 07/07/2015 21:16

No problem - give the ring and let us know how you get on Thanks

thankgoditsover · 08/07/2015 10:36

Got our ones and they're fine. Out of interest, has anyone else got a bit of a discrepancy between the tests and the teacher assessed ones? My dc got majority 6s on the tests (ie didn't get the reading but got other two) but the only 6 in the teacher assessed ones was the maths. He really doesn't get on with his teacher this year, says he feels constantly undervalued and undermined, but had a separate maths teacher for sats who he loved.

His best friend got a 6 for speaking and listening and he now feels aggrieved. Ridiculously so because of course none of it matters...

Contraryish · 08/07/2015 10:39

thankgod mine really doesn't get on with his teacher this year either. She has favourites, he isn't one of them. But his teacher-assessed results seem consistent with the other marks.

thankgoditsover · 08/07/2015 10:50

It's really unfortunate to dislike the y6 teacher (and he had in her a previous year too) as it's really sullied the last year. She's incredibly negative about him, when previous teachers dished out the superlatives. It just seems telling that his only teacher assessed 6 was from the other teacher who seemed to really get him...

Oh well, as I keep telling him it really doesn't matter and I shouldn't bring it up with her at parents' evening.

Primary school's been great, but I do think they've outgrown it by the end. He's getting into fights with the naughtier boys and been a bit eye-rolly with the teacher so I think it's time to move on.

Contraryish · 08/07/2015 10:55

It's been a bit of a shock for mine too. He's only been at the school three years and for the first two had a teacher he adored. Then he got this one in year six. I guess it's the way it goes but he won't be sad to be saying goodbye to her. Although with the results he's just achieved he may have moved up her favourites list a little now!

Onwards and upwards to secondary school, now though, no looking back!

SophieJenkins · 08/07/2015 10:56

can I just ask if the other children do SATS too? Sorry just changed schools and no idea what tests they sit in Y3.

Also why do Y6 sats matter so much?

Contraryish · 08/07/2015 11:02

Only year 2 and year 6 sit SATS.
