Wondering if schools will have received them yet?

He was allowed to phone you?

Wittynewnameifonly · 07/07/2015 12:54

Wombatstew - how are they looking? Levels as you expected?

ChippyMinton · 07/07/2015 13:01

Ours get sent out with the reports just before the end of term, along with the new class allocations.

Personally I'm not bothered and neither is DD. The school don't make a big deal of it either.

Feenie · 07/07/2015 13:11

The statutory requirements I referred to are for Year 6 only - which is what the thread is about!

Contraryish · 07/07/2015 13:12

Emo yes! Surprised me too! He rang from the school office and I was expecting another call compaining about his behaviour.

Waitingandhoping2015 · 07/07/2015 13:18

Who cares?

Oh the school I suppose.

Had forgotten all about these, probably since they are a waste of time...

Emochild · 07/07/2015 13:18

Dd is desperately praying for a level 6 for her English -she will be the only one ever from school

I've told her i'm proud of how hard she tried and that's what counts I know how difficult it is to get a level 6 for English

But there's no telling her, I hope they find out today one way or another

Contraryish · 07/07/2015 13:24

Emo - if you mean a level 6 in reading she would be doing very well indeed, they're like hens' teeth in these parts.

Emochild · 07/07/2015 13:51

Yes sorry, I do mean reading -she keeps telling me off for calling it English

WhattodowithMum · 07/07/2015 13:55

Yes, I am in England. Thanks Feenie.

WhattodowithMum · 07/07/2015 13:59

My understanding is that a Reading Level 6 is very rare indeed. I think SPAG and Writing Level 6s are more attainable. And Maths Level 6 even more attainable.

Emochild, if your DD misses out on the Reading Level 6, then maybe she'll get at least one of the others and that will help her to feel good about the overall result.

Contraryish · 07/07/2015 14:02

Whattodo - My son's results would bear out your understanding. But admittedly it's a small sample!

Emochild · 07/07/2015 14:05

She didn't sit the level 6 maths

She should get a solid 5 but lacks confidence so I made the decision with the school that she wasn't pushed to do the 6

She's got a 6 on some of the reading past papers so its not beyond the realms of possibility but she said it was tough on the day -English is definitely her 'thing' though

smellylittleorange · 07/07/2015 14:34

waitingandhoping It is Mumsnet lore that SATS do not matter that it is only for schools etc . My view is that they do matter a little bit in various ways (not as much as schools would have us believe)

Reading the curriculum document for the Secondary they have changed their policy to set according to SATS results whereas previously these were ignored in the setting process. I wonder if this is because of the pressure from Government to ensure a certain amount of progress between Key Stages which is measured from the Sats tests ( please someone correct me if it is measured from Teacher Assessment) . Its matters a little bit to the child too, to see the result of what they were working towards during year 6.

Emochild · 07/07/2015 15:43

Gah -they aren't releasing results until Friday!!!

WombatStewForTea · 07/07/2015 15:49

Witty They're largely in line with what we'd expected. A few L6s in maths and SPaG but no reading but that's not surprising!
3 levels progress is less that we'd hoped and will be less than national but it's up on last year!

redskybynight · 07/07/2015 16:00

smelly - not all secondaries set (ours doesn't). I am struggling to think of a single reason why the SATs are important to DS (other than, as you say, personal satisfaction).

DS doesn't know his SATs results yet - in fact he tells us that his teacher doesn't know either (though she does know % for the school). Seems unusual to exclude Y6 teachers from this information - at least I presume she will find out soon, but why not straight away?

Apparently only one child in the county got Level 6 writing this year!

Stillwishihadabs · 07/07/2015 16:19

Ds got 38 for Maths L6 anyone know what this means ??

Contraryish · 07/07/2015 16:24

Sorry, I meant Level 6 Reading!

Hillbilly71 · 07/07/2015 16:28

Stillwish... That means your son passed Level 6 well done! My dd got 6's in maths and writing but not the reading. Two in her school got the reading - so pleased for the school.

Wittynewnameifonly · 07/07/2015 16:35

Thanks wombat - good to know they are in line with expectations.

MirandaWest · 07/07/2015 16:35

The level 6 maths papers were both out of 25 and if you got 32 or more you got a level 6. DS wants to know what his actual score was (he got a level 6 in maths which he (and I) were very pleased about).

WhattodowithMum · 07/07/2015 16:40

I doubt that Contraryish.
