Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

Gileswithachainsaw I would have remembered myself once the holiday was over, lol.

I'm 0.5 miles (805 metres) from my local school. 0.7 miles away from my first choice.

So far today I have called my local candidates for the elections, and have decided who I am voting for Grin Still need to tidy my house :(

Giles what are your plans for the day?

Hi there, I'm also waiting to find out my youngest's school and I've got a really bad feeling he hasn't got a place at our first choice. He goes to a nursery attached to a primary school, it is close but we have put this as our second choice as my older two children attend a catholic school and I would like him to go there as well.

But as my eldest two's school is out of catchment ( it's 2 miles away ) there is no guarantee he'll get in. Plus I had a call yesterday from our local council school admissions team to confirm that we still live at our address ( strange lol ) and I got the feeling this was because ds has been rejected for our first choice school and they just wanted to confirm address before measuring distance?? for our second choice. Maybe I'm just overthinking things, but I'm panicking over potentially having my kids at two separate primary schools, it would be a nightmare! x

I think it is cruel to make us wait 3 months, 1 day (91 days) :(

Why can't the computers work faster, lol.

EmmandKids Won't he get in as his siblings go there?

Well I've just had a driving lesson so that's piled some time. going to have a coffee then wash up and then pick youngest up from nursery. then the usual school run shit after.

CakeWine to the newbies who have joined us. sending positive hopeful thoughts out to all of you.

I've been trying to think of there's anyway round the wait. as in asking the head of they have ever turned away siblings ir something. but I'm sure she's too smart to give that away

MTWTFSS · 24/03/2015 13:09

Q: How do people know how many siblings will be in a certain year?

OP posts:
EmmandKids · 24/03/2015 13:31

Hi, unfortunately it's not guaranteed. The criteria for the catholic school is baptised catholic children who are

  1. Children in care/Sen
  2. Children who live within the parish
  3. Children in parish with siblings
  4. Children out of parish with sibs
SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/03/2015 13:38

The schools themselves often know MTW. I don't think there's a more 'official' way to find out before April 16th. I could be wrong though.

Come on April 16th!

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/03/2015 13:38

Yes emma I know what you mean about it being a nightmare with two kids on different schools. I face that issue and it's also a physical.impossibility fir me to achieve. I will effectively have no choice about having to keep dd2 home until a place becomes available

MTWTFSS · 24/03/2015 13:49

EmmandKids Shock can't believe siblings come 4th whereas I'd think they'd come 2nd

EmmandKids · 24/03/2015 13:49

Aw really that's a nightmare how old are your children? My eldest is due to start high school next year so if my youngest doesn't get our 1st choice then we'll have three at three different schools! Which scares the life out of me lol.

EmmandKids · 24/03/2015 13:51

I know, i'd of thought siblings whether their in catchment or not would be at least priority 2 after sen/children in care.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/03/2015 13:51

8 and 4.so at best I have til Jan before dd2 has to go. moving dd1 is not an option as she's happy and settled and got lovely friends.

siblings are also 4th here.

Following. I am on holiday abroad the day we get our results and a bit worried that I have made the wrong choices.

My choices are a bit shit compared to other areas in my city as we live in a deprived area. To be honest I am a bit fed up of all the times people have suggested I apply for the local Catholic Schools to get around the shit choices situation. I am an Atheist and nothing would convince me to send my child to a faith school.

Mine is a PFB too, I am slightly hoping we get the third choice as I am now a bit worried about my second choice. On the plus side there's a new school being built slightly out of catchment that we should be able to apply for in may for a September start if the worst comes to the worst.

EmmandKids · 24/03/2015 14:03

Catholic schools do tend to have a better ethos, reputation better results etc. I decided on the school as it felt right and I'd chose a better catholic school any day over an under performing community one. I do go to church but usually only once a month and then for easter, christmas, Mother's Day etc. But I have friends who don't bother going to church at all and that's fine as it's their choice, and I have some who have purposely had their children baptised in order go get them into my children's school, and whilst I can't condone it as such I can understand why they've done it.

MTWTFSS · 24/03/2015 15:31

Do any of you lovely ladies have a hobby you can recommend I take up to pass the next 23 days...

You can come and clean my house to pass the time?

I'll supply wine

MTWTFSS · 24/03/2015 16:18

Unfortunately I have my own house that needs tidying :( I do like the sound of wine :)

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 24/03/2015 16:22

I can't concentrate on cleaning either Sad

knowing my Dds name is already on a list somewhere whilst people look at the pile probably knowing how tortured we are at home waiting is killing me.

bearwithspecs · 24/03/2015 16:24

Catchment children above out of catchment siblings stops people getting one in then moving miles away. We don't have that rule do loads rent until they get a place in expensive area schools for DC1 then move away to cheaper areas. Siblings miles away them jump over local children. It's actually generally s fair rule I think. Horrendous wait for everyone - at our school nursery lots know they may not get in on distance so its tense. (Massively over subscribed large school)

HelenaJustina · 24/03/2015 16:28

Waiting here too, for a school place for Dd3/4.

She has 2 siblings there and it is a Catholic academy so doesn't have a strict catchment area as such (is my understanding), we are all baptised Catholics who worship at the Church attached to the school...

But I still have a tiny frisson of worry when I think about it!

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/03/2015 16:35

I don't disagree bear

I do understand.
However I do feel we missed out before unfairly.

It just shouldn't he this hard or stressful just to keep your children out if failing schools Sad
