Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

At our school about 70 of 90 came from school nursery. 10 came from one private nursery and 10 from various others. They are mixed up across classes and by Xmas it doesn't seem to matter. In our area all schools have nurseries but there is a lot of movement in terms of reception. 20 from our nursery didn't get into school so moved etc

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:45

Almostapril Thanks for that. I already feel guilty I want to mover her, but the moving thing (about six minutes drive but totally different place and schools), the rating thing and our experiences of the school have convinced me it's something that should be done (if poss) by Sept rather than waiting longer and impacting further.

Almostapril · 01/04/2015 20:04

We have also had a handful of new children since Sept and they are all happy and settled. I know people whose children joined in Yrs1-5 too and all seem happy too. Just look at the big picture - DC settle quickly

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 20:18

Thank you. I feel the whole thing is tainted now. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 20:24

No it doesn't. you only get one shot at their education and you want to get then.the best chance and the best fit.

different things matter to different people. What puts off one person will be that draws another to pick them.

It's hard and you don't want to screw it up.

and to have your kids futures in someone else's hands, people who don't know you or your reasons for picking a school, is unbelievably stressful

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 20:34

I feel despite my best efforts to the contrary, it's already screwed up.

RatOnnaStick · 01/04/2015 20:38

We are doing this. Ds1 is at a preschool attached to a primary I have no intention of letting him go to so he is going to be one of the few going elsewhere. It made me gulp a bit when an email arrived earlier about all those going up to the reception class would be having storytime every monday afternoon with the new teachers all next term and ds1 will be left behind with the younger children and a handful of others in nursery.

I'm sending ds2 to the preschool in September too as it is so lovely. This means I will have a nice little drive between sites when many people would say I am daft for not just having them both in the same place. Maybe I am daft. The preschool at the school I hope DS gets into just isn't as nice though.

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 20:44

Why are they so different Rat?

Our DD's school nursery and reception seem quite entwined.

Almostapril · 01/04/2015 20:59

Our school nursery is great but not as nice as the 3 other local schools. I however took the easy option as its only nursery and I couldn't face the running between 2 schools!

RatOnnaStick · 01/04/2015 20:59

Current preschool longstanding excellent reports from everyone, topnotch facilities plus use of school facilities but completely separate entities, run as a charity vs failing primary school, poor bullying record, poor leadership, many complaints from parents about lack of permanent staff in many positions. School is currently RI and the final nail in the coffin was the visit we made to view where no adult was available to talk to. Laziness, uninterestedness, didn't want to know us. Compared with the other two schools it didn't stand a chance.

Other preschool is ok, but only ok. Lack of facilities and its a chain and doesn't hold onto staff. Has a slightly rubbish reputation.

Almostapril · 01/04/2015 21:09

Argh yes Rat that is totally different then! Ours are all nurseries that are integral parts of the schools - our local 6 schools all have them. Most progress up but those who are mid way between two often start in one nursery then are allocated the other school etc!

RatOnnaStick · 01/04/2015 21:16

I see. Our preschools don't belong to the school, they are integrated and use the facilities and share lots of stuff but they are all private enterprises.

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 21:24

Yep DD is in a nursery integral to the school. She wears the uniform etc.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 21:25

Dd2 nursery has nothing to do with any schools. so like her sister will start not knowing anyone

Tiggytape - were you one of the posters offering to read the report?

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 22:42

That sounded abrupt, I didn't mean it to. It's just it is a pretty awful report.

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 22:50

Ah sorry! It's okay thanks - a lovely MNetter has done that for me and given great advice.

Thank you for the kind offer.

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 22:51

And also thanks for that rationale. I hadn't thought of it like that.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 22:51

Did they manage to put your mind at rest about any of it?

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 22:53

Both in terms of the parents putting children in nurseries with the hope it will lead to a school place and about how things may have turned around pretty quickly.

Almostapril · 01/04/2015 23:00

In our area Tiggy all the school nurseries offer extended days 8-6 apart from one that offers 3 full days. You pay to top up hours - but massively cheaper than private nurseries. They are all of course full - they have holiday clubs too

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 23:07

God that would have been handy for us. DD has wraparound from a separate off site nursery!

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 23:08

So half day at the 'school' nursery and half day at the private nursery. Daft really.
