Is anyone else dying to find out which school they have been allocated?

This is for my PFB which makes it extra difficult for me :(

I can't talk about it in real life as it starts off as a nice casual conversation ending with some delusions of grandeur PFB nonsense Blush

Yes I will be adding to all waiting lists for sure. There are two schools that are possibly do - able although not local or catchment they are just easier and quicker to get to from dd1 school.

moving dd not an option. She's happy and settled and doing well and come September there's only two years left. The school we are likely to get there's no way she's going to that. I haven't spent a fortune on travel and spent mine and Dds time going there and back twice a day, only to move her so she can do badly at a school where achievement in Ks2 is below national average.

private? I wish Grin

not entitled to transport. dd2 likely school is within walking distance and we chose dd1s so distance is irrelevant.

home ed- I am considering this

have already checked pre school can hold on to dd2 so that's something, she can stay there a term at least which im hoping buys me enough time.

no one near me goes to dd1s school so can't share the school run. and I'm obviously yet to meet anyone at the other school.

and watch out for my appeal thread in two weeks Wink

I will probably spend the next half term making enquires re CM but I don't see how that's affordable currently. especially as I was hoping the fact they would both be in school would free me up for more hours. but it won't if I'm. having to juggle all this.

tiggy You are extremely knowledgeable- so happy you are on this thread Grin

Giles I hope all this worrying is for nothing :(

I remember this so well with my eldest. We moved house just before the application deadline and were lucky enough to buy a house within the catchment area of an outstanding school but it was still a nerve wracking time. I'll be waiting to hear if my youngest has got a place too, in catchment and a sibling link you would think so?! But I won't rest until I've got the offer in my hand.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 14:07

Yes I hope tiggy and ph47 (something like that ) are around in two weeks I shall be requesting their assistance.

yes so do I. by teh time a space possibly became available in a suitable nearer school dd1 was so happy and settled I didn't want to move her. and it seemed to be a big risk to take anyway (and given the recent changes to criteria where siblings are now 4th) I'd have still ended up in the same situation. and quite frankly late is late isn't it. not sure if being able to walk and be late is much difference to being late on the bus. result is the same being nearer and the resulting walk make little difference in the potential timings

Hi, I'm also facing the possibility of having children at different schools come September and I'm terrified at the prospect. My eldest two are in year 4 and 6 at an out of catchment catholic school that has strict criteria. My eldest starts high school in Septmeber but we still have the sibling link (thank god) but last year there was uproar when 6 siblings didn't get a place in reception, and I really don't want that to be us this year.

I'm a Sahm so couldn't afford breakfast club, my dd would only just be starting year 5 so I wouldn't feel comfortsble dropping her off half an hour early so I can get my youngest to his school and I've no family who could help out. I everything crossed for things to go our way come April 16th.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 17:33

Good luck two

wish all schools could be good then we wouldn't have this problem

Twoplus3 · 01/04/2015 17:53

Thanks you too, and I know yeah, that way we wouldn't have to scramble for places for our kids x

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:00

Well our first choice school - which was a 'good' school has in the last few days been graded as 'needing to improve'. And so this has totally gutted me as we've been told off the record DD WILL be getting a place there. I'm miserable about it to be quite honest. We're hoping to move (our house was on the market anyway) and have been told if we want to change schools, we would need to put in a late application come May.

It was always supposed to be a happy time for us and our family.

DD has gone to the nursery and so even if a miracle does happen and we get a buyer for the house, move AND get village school of choice by Sept it will be marred by the fact we're taking her away from teachers and friends she loves.

DH doesn't see the big deal really, but then it's not been him checking every month we're still in catchment, arranging look around the school etc etc etc etc.

Sad hoping for a miracle

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:03

Sorry for the moan.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 18:07

a RI wouldn't bother me too much depending on what it was that RI.

at out local everyone I know who had kids there removed them for a variety of reasons such as safeguarding and bullying and a complete failure to have learnt anything. All are thriving in new schools.

It may have gone from SM to RI in that time but I'm really loathed to chance it. I'll be gutted beyond belief

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 18:07

moan away Flowers

It is your first choice school . It is still the same school you loved. Bear in mind that there is no satisfactory now.

What issues were identified and why?

Sorry! Poor wifi

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:10

The report in my opinion was awful. It RI in every area except one. A MNetter who knows about this stuff has let me send her the report so hopefully she'll have something positive to say.

Ugh.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 18:12

Well that changes that then Sad

how gutting.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 01/04/2015 18:15

If you plan to move in due course anyway, focus on early years and a bit on ks1. How is that?

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:19

I know there are bigger things to be upset and worried about - but figured people on this thread would understand.

penguins I looked around two schools - and to be honest I just couldn't see how I could decide unless we saw it in action if that makes sense.

She's been there half days since Oct. We haven't had a great experience with the school at all. BUT figured it was good, had outstanding features, that I didn't really know anything about schools - and so played it safe and opted for it. It's also our catchment school.

I should have gone with my gut and put her in the RC one I liked, but we were slightly out of catchment and I didn't want to risk it.

Now I feel like she's 'embedded' at the RI school if that makes sense?

schooladviceplease2015 · 01/04/2015 18:22

Anyone chosen a DIFFERENT school from their half days nursery (those attached to schools rather than private ones)?

Or anyone done this in the past?

How are you planning to help DCs make the transition?

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 18:28

Dd went to a pre school. It wasn't attached to a school BUT the majority of the children attending did start the local school. Dd was one of possible about 5 kids who went to a different one (as they didn't get into the school)

I too worried about how she would react not knowing anyone having been friends for a while with those going to the other school.
I needn't have worried as she came out having made friends on the first day. obviously it's nice to know people before hand but tbh it turned out to not really ne that important for dd to settle.

In a way it enabled her to branch out rather than stick with the same group
