Yes, i have no life! And we are lucky in that all the schools near us seem pretty good, but I'm still itching to know if we got our first choice. nerdy.

That's what I've got Honey. I think they mean the contact us link right at the bottom.

AuroraSim · 16/04/2014 00:36

Still nothing for us. May have to call them first thing :( x

TheNightIsDark · 16/04/2014 00:37

There's a problem throughout Northamptonshire going by people I know who have applied Angry

I waited up for nothing.

3asAbird · 16/04/2014 00:39

oh well know from being here its not the end

things change

maybe we get happy ending.

wonder if both leas mind me ringing tommorow and asking few questions.

I can still home ed.

shimmymummy · 16/04/2014 00:44

We got our last choice - a new free school that hasn't even announced its location yet. A one-year intake, no facilities to visit or see or a education curriculum to look at. It's an utter joke.

TheNightIsDark · 16/04/2014 00:46

Shock How can they give you a school with no location yet? That's awful. Can you appeal?

shimmymummy · 16/04/2014 01:17

Our choices must be oversubscribed so I don't know what good an appeal will do. They can't give us someone else's place I imagine. They have a temp location for the next year - which hasn't been renovated yet, but in terms of the actual location it's ok for us. But they haven't announced the permanent location yet, I don't drive so if it's in the opposite direction of my work god knows how we'll manage. I have to be positive about it for my DDs sake though right? I just badly wanted her to go to a set-up school with some older kids and something to aspire too. It could of course be amazing but we've for nothing to go on or reports to look atHmm

3asAbird · 16/04/2014 01:19

Sorry shimmy thats even worse than mine. maybe be good when they get act together.

can always appeal or look further afeild.

Kveta · 16/04/2014 05:45

We don't find out until after 6pm in herts. It will be an anxious day!

ScrambledSmegs · 16/04/2014 06:06

Problem with emails so log in to online admissions please.

Nothing in online admissions.

Aargh. Waiting is killing me.

Tigresswoods · 16/04/2014 06:20

Hampshire emails came at 6am

OuterFromOutersville · 16/04/2014 06:28

We got our 4th choice Sad, which we really weren't expecting - we thought that we'd probably get our 2nd or 3rd choice.

I hope that Tiggytape and other knowledgeable posters will be around later to chat about waiting lists, and appeals etc. (sitting in tears).

PanelChair · 16/04/2014 06:50

For anyone looking for information about appeals and waiting lists, please

Start a new thread with the word appeal in the title

Mention what the school's published admission number is, so that we know whether this will be an infant class size appeal

Mention the basis on which you would be appealing ( bearing in mind that a general preference for one school over another or factors like convenience of school drop-off are rarely enough to win an appeal and certainly not for an infant class size appeal)

Have you checked that the admissions criteria were correctly applied - sibling priority not overlooked, distance to school measured correctly, etc?

carrieindex · 16/04/2014 06:52

I am also sat here feeling gutted outers. Looks like a stressful wait til Sept for us too Sad

OuterFromOutersville · 16/04/2014 06:54

Panel, can you possibly expand on some possible different reasons for an appeal? And how do you find out the information regarding the application of the priority criteria?

mummytime · 16/04/2014 07:00

Do not panic! Lots of people do get places on the waiting lists. Details will be in the official email/letter of how to join. I would suggest you also check with the schools just to make sure (Surrey LAs letter was misleading this year for secondary).

I have known someone get a school place 4 days into the September term as someone else decided to move her son at short notice.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 16/04/2014 07:03

Not up until this evening, aargh!!

OuterFromOutersville · 16/04/2014 07:06

Thanks all Smile, and Sad carrie.

This is rubbish.

Thanks mummytime. I am going to sit it out on the waiting so I hope something similar happens.

As if to taunt myself, I had a long detailed dream that we got into the other school just before opening the email!

Gah. Not how I wanted to start the day.

PanelChair · 16/04/2014 07:12

Ok. Taking those in reverse order

You need to ask the admissions authority (which is either the LEA or the school) to confirm why you did not get a place. It should be obvious from that (say) whether they overlooked a sibling connection or thought you were out of catchment when in fact you are in catchment. You can also ask for the home/school distance as they measured it. Measurements are nearly always done using a computer package, measuring from a datum point on the home to a datum point on the school, so you can't substitute your own measurement done (say) on Google maps, but you can at least look for glaring errors such as measuring from the wrong address. (I have known that happen).

You can appeal using any arguments that you feel are relevant. But, if the school's PAN is a multiple of 30, this will mean that the appeal is heard according to infant class size rules. ICS rules limit the size of any class in years R to 2 to 30 pupils with one teacher. The grounds for allowing an ICS appeal are very limited - essentially, that the admissions arrangements don't comply with the law or an error has been made that had cost the child their place.

If the appeal is not being heard on ICS terms - ie the PAN is not a multiple of 30 - it will be decided on the balance of 'prejudice', ie whether the disadvantage to the child in not attending that school outweighs the disadvantage to the school in having to exceed its PAN and admit another pupil. That gives more scope for arguing about why the child needs to attend that particular school. Winning arguments will usually be around the child having particular educational, social, medical or pastoral needs which the school is better placed than any other school to meet. As I mentioned, arguments like the school being more conveniently located for the school run don't usually succeed.

If you want to discuss this in more detail, please start a new thread which the other admissions experts are more likely to spot, so they can contribute too.

SmileAndNod · 16/04/2014 07:15

Wilts here too

3asAbird · 16/04/2014 07:17

Outer and carrie virtual hugs this morning I oud out midnight slep on it god knows how and still feel no better.

I have resisted tears just feel sad been offered school not on list but could think of least 4 worse schools within postcode they could have allocated that I would have been no way i she going there.

Im wiating until 9 get on phone and ask both leas relevent questions

Wondering from appeal point of veiw if pan is 20 theres room for manourvere if classrooms are big enough? only r class has 20kids rest have 30 as all mixed year 1 upwards.

I dot know anyone in recent years whs won appeal including siblings but maybe they dident appeal in same way.

I dont think error was made,

Council website said couldent change address without being late applicant as moved month half ago so definatly need change address and get on waitlist for 3rd choice less tha 10mins walk.

I know todays going to be hard

I expect lea be quite maters of fact

everyone who has their choices will be estatic and plastering it all ver fb.

now we in limbo where cant buy uniform, do settling in or new sessions or tell daughter wheres shes going its the uncertainty I hate.

carrieindex · 16/04/2014 07:19

Was anyone else checking their phone every time they woke up in the night too? I am just knackered now. I feel like I need the day off to recover Smile
