Teacher wearing bikini in swimming pool

Hello everyone, I'm new here - this looks like such a lovely community here, and I look forward to participating in many discussions here! I joined because I have a question to ask.

My child (8 years old boy) went on a trip a couple of weeks ago with his school to a swimming pool. They had qualified instructors outside the pool watching the children, but their teacher chose to go into the pool with them.

My boy told me that their teacher was wearing a very revealing bikini (not a sport one - something like this - www.summerinstyle.eu/cache/30b5e2199cc8f5d06d05de6bb991f9ed93d13a03.jpg ) - which was very surprising.

  • do you think this is appropriate for a teacher to wear during school time?

Grin BOF

I'm just baffled which threads show us off as a lovely community.

usualsuspect · 03/07/2013 19:41

Did he describe the bikini in detail?

How odd

ggirl · 03/07/2013 19:42

unless her tits were falling out or her dickiedido was on show I don't see a problem with her bikini

MirandaWest · 03/07/2013 19:45

I'm not sure whether DS who's 9 would notice whether someone was wearing a bikini or not. Probably not. He'd be more likely to talk about what they did at the swimming pool. He definitely wouldn't give enough detail for me to be able to give a link to a website.

Bowlersarm · 03/07/2013 19:45

It's fine. It is swim wear. She was in a swimming pool. I think you are looking for problems when there aren't any.

I find it strange that your 8 year old finds it strange that she was wearing swim wear in a swimming pool.

My DSes, as 8 year olds, wouldn't have thought to have commented on something so, well, normal.

FannyMcNally · 03/07/2013 19:51

You just know that those 8 year old boys loved every minute of it! I bet they still can't stop talking about their teacher's hot bod. Grin

YoniRanger · 03/07/2013 19:55

Whatever next! Ankles on show at the village fete?
No hats on a Sunday?

RippingYarns · 03/07/2013 20:17

OP, is you DS gok wan?

frissonpink · 03/07/2013 20:20

I don't get in the pool with the kids when they go swimming

but

If I had to, rash vest and board shorts every time. For exactly the same reasons special mentioned.

frissonpink · 03/07/2013 20:20

More's to the point though, where on earth did she get changed??!!!

StickyProblem · 03/07/2013 20:24

Rofl ggirl!
I now know what a rash vest is, I'd never heard of it. Learn something new on Mumsnet every day!

SuperiorCat · 03/07/2013 20:31

Looks fine - slightly O/T but this was what DDs NQT wore to the Christmas play Shock

wheresthebeach · 03/07/2013 20:33

Our swimming instructors wear swim suits, not bikini's. Anything wrong with a bikini? No...but I'd be a bit surprised I think. It's a lesson - not a day at the beach.

And 8 year old boys do notice womens bodies...really they do. I can think of one of our TA's who I suspect would wear a bikini in that situation (and look jaw droppingly gorgeous because she just always does look fashionable and stunning) but most teachers would prob go for a swim suit because most of us normal mortals can't carry off a bikini!

Does it matter? Nope.

Bowlersarm · 03/07/2013 20:33

I've never heard of a rash vest either. Off to google.

Bowlersarm · 03/07/2013 20:36

Well tbh I think that looks more inappropriate in a swimming pool than a bikini top. It covers up more than the Victorians used to.

whiteandyellowiris · 03/07/2013 20:37

I feel sorry for teachers they are always getting it in the neck whatever they do

LesAnimaux · 03/07/2013 20:42

No, I don't think it's inappropriate.

Unless you have a fat belly, then what are you thinking wearing a bikini. Get yourself a swimming costume.

Unless you are pregnant, then a bikini is quite practical.

Sprink · 03/07/2013 20:45

SweetSurrender--so much for the lovely welcome. It must be disheartening to join a group and find that one seemingly can't ask a question without having every aspect of her parenting or personality snarked about. Many seem to ignore the question completely and go straight for the "challenging statement," primed and ready for argument.

In my experience, it's perfectly normal and natural for 8-year-old boys to be aware of girls, and of women's bodies.

It is unusual, but not unheard of, for a swimming instructor to wear a bikini.

It is also unusual for a pupil to see his teacher in a bikini.

It is not unusual for children to ask questions of their parents when the children experience something new or unexpected (such as seeing a teacher in a bikini) and for the children to be able to describe what they have seen. (By 8, they should know enough "wow words" that would help the description along, yes, that's me being sarky now).

To answer your question, no, I don't think it was the most appropriate choice of swimwear for school swimming lessons. If nothing else, it's impractical.

MissStrawberry · 03/07/2013 20:48

8 year olds blushing at the mention of girls?

8 year olds talking about a teacher's "hot bod" and even knowing what a "hot body" is?!

8???

Heifer · 03/07/2013 20:50

Going against the grain here, but I would be surprised if a teacher wore a bikini to swimming class. Maybe because I've never seen anyone (child or teacher) at swimming lessons wearing a bikini, let alone school.

At DDs school they all have to wear black suiting costumes and at swimming club all the girls and boys wear swimming costumes/trunks.

So I guess I would think it a little odd. DD would comment I think for the same reason.

50BalesOfHay · 03/07/2013 20:51

Not at all appropriate in my view.

5madthings · 03/07/2013 20:58

Its a swim outfit...they were swimming. Maybe it was all she had/could find. It covered the appropriate bits so did the job.

I have four boys, onw is eight yrs old, he wouldnt notice what swinwear his swim teacher was wearing or ladies bodies. This us yr 3 at school, they all get changed in the classroom for pe together still!

singinggirl · 03/07/2013 21:07

Maybe she doesn't rally swim so only owns a bikini. The teacher may also not have 'chosen' to go in the pool with them, but had to for one specific child, such as an epileptic. (Obviously medical details of children are necessarily known by all).

landofsoapandglory · 03/07/2013 21:21

A woman goes swimming in a swimming costume! Whatever next? Hold the front pages, has someone notified the news channels?

Honestly, what an overreaction!
