Primary school places - waiting room for anxious parents !

When does everyone find out where their dc have been allocated a place ?

Very nervous waiting going on here as we have applied to dc1's school for a place for dc2 even though we are out of catchment but because the order of preference rules have changed siblings out of catchment no longer have priority over children within catchment (The school wasn't that popular when we applied for dc1 but has been over subscribed for the last 2 years).

Dreading having to be in 2 places at once on the school run if dc2 doesn't get in.

Off to check the LEA website for date of notification of places but it is deffo March sometime.

bringinghomethebacon try and not worry too much, I know that this is easier said than done though. I'm getting my results next week (11th April) and will be turning down a place (have been told unofficially that I've got a place) at an outstanding school to go to an average primary. Guess what I am trying to say is not to be blinded by the Ofsted report.

It be may be worthwhile trying to visit your next 2-3 closest school and having a look around. It be good to have the info just in case.

Good luck!

Elibean · 04/04/2011 12:42

Thank you Natz, and good luck to all!

I would second LST's advice, BHTB - I chose a 'good' primary over an 'outstanding' one for dd1 and couldn't be happier. I'm hoping dd2 will be joining her (find out at 5pm) Smile

mumoverseas · 04/04/2011 12:43

Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting to hear. It is such a stressful time!

Good luck everyone!

I put down schools for all five (or was it six?) choices as our borough is very oversubscribed. Desperately hoping for first but the next three aren't bad. Still feeling very nervous though as would love for DD to go to the first choice.

We're London so get an email or can logon online at 5pm...

nikki1978 · 04/04/2011 14:27

Good luck to everyone finding out today. DS is pretty much guaranteed a place as his sister is already there but I remember how nervous I was 2 years ago waiting for DDs result. We actually got our third choice which was not well rated for the first time ever on Ofsted. But the bad report has bucked their ideas up and the recent report wad outstanding. But most importantly DD is very happy there. Anyway my point is it can work out ok even if you don't get your first choice :)

izpie · 04/04/2011 14:44

Should find out by email from 5pm today, feeling quite anxious as I think we'll probably get 3rd choice school and although the OFSTED report is outstanding the intake is 'very challenging', don't want my lovely dd to be in a school with a very challenging intake. Think I feel a glass of wine coming on....

Elibean · 04/04/2011 16:30

Funny really....dd has a sibling at our first choice school, but we're not that close to it (wouldn't get in if no sibling, I shouldn't think) and I have butterflies anyway. Gulp.

Elibean · 04/04/2011 17:04

Phew! She's in Smile

fingers crossed everyone's dc gets the place they want and need.

ttalloo · 04/04/2011 17:05

anyone in London got their e-mail yet?

nikki1978 · 04/04/2011 17:07

Got it :) Hope everyone else got what they wanted or close to.

ttalloo · 04/04/2011 17:12

(glad you got what you wanted, btw)

FingandJeffing · 04/04/2011 17:12

Any one heard in Herts?

NatzCNL · 04/04/2011 17:14

Am so so relieved and happy - got our 1st choice!!! Which I really didn't think would happen as it is so much further than the other ones we put down. So happy Grin Hope everyone else is getting happy news too x

ZhuZhuhell · 04/04/2011 17:14

ttalloo · 04/04/2011 17:16

thecatatemygymsuit · 04/04/2011 17:29

God, we're in London and have just heard our dd did not get in to any of the 4 schools she applied for, not one! And no alternative offered. Is this normal? I am actually in tears here...

ttalloo · 04/04/2011 17:29

thank you! still haven't got the e-mail, but DS1 has got into our second choice, which was originally our first, so we are very happy!
