Primary school places - waiting room for anxious parents !

When does everyone find out where their dc have been allocated a place ?

Very nervous waiting going on here as we have applied to dc1's school for a place for dc2 even though we are out of catchment but because the order of preference rules have changed siblings out of catchment no longer have priority over children within catchment (The school wasn't that popular when we applied for dc1 but has been over subscribed for the last 2 years).

Dreading having to be in 2 places at once on the school run if dc2 doesn't get in.

Off to check the LEA website for date of notification of places but it is deffo March sometime.

Sorry, ignore that last post - I was being v thick! Hoorah, both boys at same school and it's our first choice one too. Grin

newlark · 31/03/2011 17:30

hooray - fab news! Very pleased for you.

mumoverseas · 31/03/2011 17:33

yay, fab news, I can get on with my evening now not that I'm going to sleep as i'm waiting to find out tomorrow!

IngridBergmann · 31/03/2011 18:29

Oh I was looking for a thread on which to bite my nails!! Thankfully it's been so full on today I hadn't time to worry, much, and then the email just arrived and we have our place Smile so I'll wish everyone else the very best of luck, and go and celebrate with a lindt truffle Grin

Northernlurker · 31/03/2011 18:45

I was getting all geared up to bite y nails tomorrow and then spotted on facebook that somebody else local had their e-mail - feverishly opened mine and thankfully dd3 has our first choice - same brilliant school as the older two. Huge relief as we are not in catchment and never have been.

IngridBergmann · 31/03/2011 18:48

Well done NL! I'm really pleased for you.

We actually got our second choice, but considering we already have a child there and thouht we were moving him to first choice, then decided not to, it's a result Grin

StealthPolarBear · 31/03/2011 18:48

Our LA doesn't have any details on when or how we will be told, as far as I can tell

StealthPolarBear · 31/03/2011 18:49

I think it's tomorrow but it's all very vague

TheClaw · 31/03/2011 19:45

Really feel for you all as I remember the dreaded day when my DT's didn't get our first choice (where they were very happy at nursery). I remember the sinking feeling in my stomach when we didn't get the places and crying on and off for about 3 weeks!!

We ended up 1st and 2nd on the waiting list (from a starting position of 5th and 6th) but got a place at our 2nd choice school which was about half a mile further away. The annoying thing was that one of the children that effectively took our place left after their reception year and another child was hastily baptised to jump the list!! Still makes me angry!

I'm very glad to say that it all worked out great - I've been so pleased with many aspects of the school that they are at and they found the transition fairly easy and made lots of new friends.

They still see some of the old nursery lot too at Rainbows and swimming.

I hope you get what you want but please don't worry too much if you don't. There is so much movement on the waiting lists and also 2nd choice can often work out well.

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 20:44

Fab news IB and NL, that is great. And thanks all for the hand-holding this afternoon! Good luck to everyone else who's waiting to hear, hope you all get the places you are hoping for!

NatzCNL · 31/03/2011 21:08

Newlark - thanks for the info on logging onto the online application - didn't realise you could do that! Have done it but the bugger says the results will be published 4th April at 5pm....! Argh, it feels like months away.

Congratulations to all who have got into the schools they wanted, here's hoping everyone else (including me) can log on and say the same xx

Elibean · 31/03/2011 22:38

I'll wait with you, Natz - April 4th it is: a whole weekend Shock

Good luck!

mumoverseas, if you're west sussex, I had mine an hour ago. I'm a bit speechless - We have two schools to choose from and dd amazingly got the first choice out of catchment school. I'd been often told no chance unless you're in the catchment area. It's left me all over the shop!

LondonSuperTrooper · 01/04/2011 11:46

Hi, I've just found this thread!

I won't find out which school has been allocated to my DS until 11 April (I'm in Surrey).

I think i will probably get my first choice but will now ask to put on waiting list for my second choice school!

mumoverseas · 01/04/2011 15:49

hophophippidtyhop, yes, West Sussex and we got our first choice too. So very relieved. Grin

sonsmum · 01/04/2011 16:11

I also would find out 5pm on monday (though think i signed up to a text alert pilot and get a text sunday evening, no idea what time on sunday though). I am in Haringey London.
Getting my news will allow me to know if I can keep my job as it is, or whether I need to reduce my hours or pay an au pair for a whole day (and only use them from 3.30-6) or if we get our 6th choice or worse (somewhere out of the borough) I will not subject DC to that, so we'll move house.
Quite a lot hinges on getting the right result!

hophophippidtyhop · 01/04/2011 17:58

Glad you got your first choice mumoverseas

thebird · 01/04/2011 18:57

Should find out by post tomorrow. I feel sick :(

SilveryMoon · 01/04/2011 19:08

I won't find out until some time in May!!!!!!
I only put one school down on the application. Ds already attends the nursery there and his teacher has told me that there are children in the class who are moving on so fingers crossed.
God knows what I'll do if he doesn't get a place

MrsBrollyhook · 01/04/2011 22:28

29th April for us - Royal Wedding day! Should be fine as my older daughter dives DD2 sibling priority, but will def be good to see it in writing.

sonsmum - feel for you with so much riding on the decision. It's so difficult to get a school you're happy with and within easy reach in London!

NatzCNL · 04/04/2011 09:41

Roll on 5pm! Am really feeling the nerves today. Good luck to all that are getting their results this evening x

NatzCNL · 04/04/2011 09:44

thebird how did you get on?

silverymoon that is such a long wait! Should be the same date for everyone IMO. Good luck!

Elibean CoffeeDodger - best of luck to you both

sonsmum I hope everything works in your favour

MrsBrollyhook · 04/04/2011 10:02

NatzCNL - Good luck for later!
